The funny thing about being the "favorite" to win a sporting championship is that it really doesn't matter. Tonight, the odds-on favorite to win this year's Super Bowl were beaten by the lowest seeded team in the playoffs. Taking the Ravens with their 14-2 record and prospective league MVP quarterback seemed like the sure thing "om paper" but that's not how it played out between the hashmarks on the field. Note that I didn't say the Ravens lost. Tennessee went out and beat them, keeping the Ravens out of the endzone for 3 quarters and only allowing 12 points overall to the NFL's highest scoring offense. It's an upset in the sense that 9-7 teams aren't "supposed" to beat 14-2 teams in the playoffs but with the way Tennessee plays (think 85 Chicago Bears, though their defense isn't THAT good), they can get more talented teams into what I call "mud fights" and emerge victorious when it seems unreasonable that they should be able to do so. They did it last week against the reigning Super Bowl Champion Patriots and they did it tonight against this year's hottest team. Playing like that, there's no reason to believe that they can't do it against anybody. I just hope that me team (the "favorite" in their game) wins tomorrow.

I could see Vrabel turning Tennessee into another Patriot like time if they are able to manage players properly like NE is great at and just add a quality qb.

Vrabel deserves a ton of credit for the turnaround of this team. Arguably the coach of the year considering the gut decision to bench the struggling Mariota and the renaissance of Ryan Tannehill.
Bottom line from last night is that the Titans are one of the hottest teams in the NFL at the moment and the Ravens starters were 2 weeks removed from serious competition and failed to keep up.

Anybody else catch today's Chiefs/Texans game? The highly favored Chiefs looked like absolute rubbish in the first quarter, giving up 21 points (including a TD return off of a blocked punt). After allowing another 3 points on a field goal, they proceeded to rattle off 41 unanswered points. It started off as the most frustrating thing and then turned into something amazing. Have to feel a bit for Texans fans but fuck, I've been waiting on a Super Bowl appearance longer than that team has existed.
Tim, good luck to your guys tonight.

It's amazing how upsets can happen, and at times it feels damn near random. Like, were the 1996 Broncos with John Elway really not as good as a Jaguars team that was only in their 2nd year of existence and a 9-7 wildcard? But the Jaguars somehow won that game.

So.....this sign-stealing scandal in MLB.....that's something, eh?
It's cost the jobs of three club managers and a GM.
I feel that MLB's reputation has never fully recovered from the taint of the steroid scandals roughly 20 years ago and this "new" one (wherein the winners of two consecutive World Series [the 2017 Astros and 2018 Red Sox] have been found guilty of deliberately violating league rules to gain a competitive advantage) might just knock it back down to that level where you question the integrity of every in and player, as was the case after the aforementioned blight on the game.
It's yet another awful look for the oldest of the "Big Four" US sports leagues.

Congratulations to the Chefs. I'm happy to see them make it to the Super Bowl this year after that nailbiter of a conference championship last year, and I like them anyway even though I was always more of a Broncos fan (sorry not sorry, Marsh).
Too bad about the Packers though.

I finally get to see the Chiefs play in the Super Bowl after all of these years! What seemed like something that could only happen in Madden has become a reality. Here's hoping that the offensive line saves their very best play for that game. If Mahomes can get time to make a play, I think the rest will take care of itself. Whatever happens, I'm just glad that my team is in it.

That's awesome, Marsh. I'm really happy for you! π
I haven't followed the NFL for a long time but the Superbowl match-up this year makes me a bit nostalgic. It reminds me of like 25+ years ago when Joe Montana left the 49'ers and signed with the Chiefs, creating a mini rivalry between the two teams. I was a very big 49'ers fan back then so it was a pretty big deal seeing Joe on another team. Jerry Rice helped the 49'ers persevere though, haha.

If I told you that Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty has been accused of punching a 13-year-old, would you be surprised?

I donβt actively follow the league, but it seems that every few years the sun ends up shining on a dogs ass, and a totally unexpected team (even if it has a 12-4 record) makes it to the final (I.e., not the Pats). Congrats on the Chiefs, I hope itβs a competitive game and you and all of the others Chiefs fans enjoy the game! Man, I donβt even watch NFL but even I want them to win! π
