To the surprise of nobody but the NFL, Vontaze Burfict destroyed another defenseless receiver with his head. You would think after 13 combined fines/suspensions in 7 years that the league would get the hint that this thug doesn't deserve to play in the league at all. Vontaze Burfict suspended for the rest of the season. About time he got punished appropriately.

Still too lenient.

Yeah, that's not even the dirtiest hit that he's made but the cumulative total dictates that he sees a ban. Really, there shouldn't be anywhere near the tolerance for it that there is in the league. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between a bad hit that occurred as a matter of happenstance and a bad hit where the tackler was deliberately trying to injure the other player. I'm definitely not a fan of some of the "softer" rules that the league has implemented but trying to curb the helmet-to-helmet stuff was the right call and I wish that they'd be a bit more proactive about severely punishing repeat offenders AND about holding RBs who lower their heads into defenders to a similar standard. There's no reason to take the "violence" out of the game but there has to be a line, and I think targeting players' necks/heads is a pretty obvious place to establish one.
As for MLB, the Royals lost exactly 10 games more than I thought they would and had the worst pitching in the American League. The bright spots are the individual performances of MLB hits leader Whit Merrifield, Adelberto Mondesi when healthy, Hunter Dozier, (the last 3 players toed for the MLB lead in triples, among other marks during their good seasons), and AL Home Run King* Jorge Soler (a first for a Royals player; * Mike Trout missing the last 3 weeks of the season is the only reason he got it tbh)
I'm ambivalent about the departure of Ned Yost as on the one hand he's a genuine class act of professional who always stood up for his players and guided a talented young core to unforeseen glory, while on the other hand his commitment to letting struggling pitchers "work out" their issues has lost his teams more games than I can count. Whatever happens with the team going forward, I do wish Yost the easiest of retirements.

I think the NFL should adopt a targeting rule like college has.
If a wicked hit was made, it should be reviewed if the defender was targeting and if he did, he should be ejected and possibly suspended the next game or so, depending on his history.
We saw nasty hits from both the Eagles and Packers on Thursday night's game, but there were no ejections in either case even though both victims had to be carried out on a stretcher.

I got him from work yesterday and thought I’d watch Canada’s last game in this years World Cup against Namibia, one that on paper Canada had a chance of winning. Well, tough luck for both sides, Typhoon Hagibis decided no one was playing anything yesterday, the game was canceled. I hope Japan is okay, Hagibis is supposed to be one of the strongest typhoons to hit the nation in 60 years. 🙁
Japan vs Scotland was a go though, what an awesome match! Scotts came back at the end but fell just short, leaving Japan to finish top of their pool! Crazy!

With all of the egomaniac lunatics in sports committing career suicide and big money flying around to play a game for a living, here’s good news for once! Sorry, just thought the story Is a good one, no conflict of interest or subjectively here due to the nationality of the participants or anything like that, either! 😉 🇨🇦🇯🇵❤️

That's a really nice gesture by the team. Considering that the Japanese are well known for being courteous and cleaning up after themselves (see: 2018 World Cup in Russia where they picked up all the trash in the stadiums!), it's nice to see that rub off on others to do the same especially in a time of need like they are going through now with that typhoon.

Yeah, dislocated kneecaps aren't good. Apparently it was shifted back into place on the sideline and he was walking around on it after the game, allegedly with no apparent discomfort. If the MRI shows no ligament damage, he'll miss no more than a couple of weeks. If there is ligament damage, it's season-ending surgery. I'm obviously hoping for the former.

Yeah, dislocated kneecaps aren't good. Neither are games on Thursday for teams on 3 days rest, but that's a whole different story. That being said, how much of an abomination are the Broncos? They have zero idea how to evaluate talent and it starts with Elway. How many horrible decisions does it take before Denver realizes he's no savior in a suit and tie?

^I've been saying that for years but admittedly, I'm biased against Elway since he's my singularly most despised player ever
Even with that aside, yeah, he lucked into the Peyton Manning sweepstakes and.......
I certainly don't want to see the Broncos ever succeed at anything but the sheer nepotism in Elway coming back year after year, failure after failure (with players) is pretty disgusting. The only team that's worse in that regard is the Cowboys and we know that Team Owner Jerry Jones isn't going to fire himself from the GM duties that he's assumed for like 30 years now.

I agree with Zealot that Thursday games should be banned in the NFL, save for Thanksgiving and the season opener.
Players get hurt too often. But to the NFL, it's all about profit. They don't give a fuck.

Marsh, I would put the Redskins' Dan Snyder up there too. He doesn't know what the fuck he's doing either. Just look at the Jay Gruden and Dwayne Haskins fiasco.

Dan Snyder is a prime example of why diehard fans running a sports franchise is a bad idea.
