That actually makes me wonder if we can make individual layers. That's not one layer, it's a whole combined head.
While that might actually be easier to work with (and it's easier to show off), it makes me wonder what range of options the whole tool has. Like, do we import that back in as one complete piece? Will we be able to do individual part layers? Or do we export a whole complete head/leg/hand/whatever, edit it, and import the whole shebang onto the guy as a layer? That would actually have uses too, as it would let you condense layers for guys that use a lot - but you wouldn't be able to edit it, you'd have to do the whole process again to change anything, or to use it for someone else.
There is an option on there set to "combine" which might imply we could do either process.
I WANNA KNOW HOW IT WORKS

If it's anything like how the modders have been doing it for the last three years, you can make completely separate sprite sheets to assemble together to create whatever you want. IE: Super Dragon's mask ~ You could separate it into individual pieces, all the way down to the dragon teeth if you wanted to. The outlines of the mask could be its own layer, etc. The downside? You'd have to draw the sprite for every angle of the headbase individually.

I'm relieved to hear the parts we make are shareable on the workshop

I was doing pretty well with part creation a while back, and even had a few tricks I worked out to streamline the process and make parts that look like the real in game parts. I stopped more or less when they announced the part creator was coming because I didn't want to waste my efforts if an easier way was on the horizon.
I was sure there would be more to it than just being able to export parts to a graphic design software. The new parts they've created, especially the more complex ones seen in the licensed DLCs, just look too good for them to have been drawing every angle by hand from scratch. I was sure there had to be some way that they're creating one or two angles and then modifying them for all of the other angles automatically.

I’ve got to imagine we’ll be getting this fairly soon.

Interested more in Move Craft but it's nice to hear about Parts Craft. Judging by his header, it's going to be about 30 dollars. I'm sure the community will make it worth it in about a month though.

While the price of some of the other DLC has been scruntised, I think for a DLC that ensures the long lasting customisable longevity of the game, This would be a fair price if its £20 or less. This may be the most value for money DLC they've released yet.

Digital Deluxe Edition is $27 on psn right now. There’s about 5 pieces of dlc included there with this as well, so now would be the time to jump on it.

I believe parts and move craft are both suppose to be free

Move Craft is 100% free.
Parts Craft is apparently 30 USD, unless you own the rest of the listed Season Pass DLC, at which point, makes the Parts Craft DLC free. Would be easier if both were free, but I digress.

I'm pretty sure they do it individually for each angle; sometimes two parts that line up at one angle won't line up at another, for example. They might have some tools that help with perspective and stuff - to see what this or that logo should look like when turned to X angle, for example - but I'm pretty sure they apply that individually. It would be interesting if they'd open up about their design process, show us what programs and tools they use and so on. Especially since this is meant as part of a "here, now you guys take over" gesture.

Considering that each section of the edit's appearance is technically a 3-D model, they're likely painting a 3-D model and then exporting them to a sprite sheet for different angles.
