I mean, there is such a thing as "invisible" handicaps (heart failure, for example) but I also know there's such a thing as borrowing someone else's placard. Not to mention general assholery.

Two losses overshadowed this week.
The first is permanent. And yet it doesn't quite hurt as much because I know their suffering is over.
The other I just feel like the physical distance matches up with the emotional one now.

The disturbing trend of everyone you look up on the internet having a “net worth”. What difference does this “statistic” make on peoples daily lives? Accept the fact that if you’re looking someone up on the internet, they probably make/have more than you. I guess this has something to do with our insatiable need to pigeon hole everyone we meet within seconds of meeting them by asking “what do you do for work?”. I always come up with a smart ass counter question or use terminating answers. If someone asks questions that indicate they consider me a fellow human, we talk. 🙂
Why isn’t anyone interested whether or not the individual they’re looking up is a good person or a soulless, attention hungry scumbag? Just a thought.

Double tech whammy today. Main HDMI port died in my TV. Not a big deal since I can just plug into the other HDMI port my Switch was plugged into. Just makes things slightly inconvenient. I've been looking to get a new TV for the PS5 anyway, but that may not happen until next year as it looks like I'll be riding the low bank account redline possibly until August between car expenses, bills and a sudden rush of Amazon pre-orders all hitting at once in late June and early July. The TV I'm currently using is about ten years old. It was one of the first big purchases I bought when I changed jobs so it certainly doesn't owe me anything after almost a decade of flawless use and as long as at least one HDMI port works I'll stick it in another room for watching movies or something. Same with my launch PS4 Pro as I'll explain.
I think the HD in my launch PS Pro is starting to die. It's been acting weird the last couple weeks as in taking forever to open programs or move through menus even after system rebuilds and flushing the temp files. Finally I turned the system on to an error message wanting me to reinstall the latest update, which I had already done back when the update came out. So I did that and still got the boot up screen asking for a system update. Pretty much means you're screwed when you're at that point. Booted up in safe mode and tried the system rebuild, then the initialization. Neither worked so I figure the console might be borked. Can't complain about that either.
It's a launch day Pro and I've used it pretty much every day since I bought it. So I caved and did a full system format. Now it's up and running again. Didn't really lose anything of value on it since I tend to back important stuff up on the cloud but I'm definitely going to be using it more for the media player, youtube and amazon prime watching moreso than gaming now, although games seem to be running fine, I think short of putting a new HD in it, it will eventually be retired as the spare console for break glass in case of emergency situations.
Fortunately I still have my brand new backup PS4 Pro that I bought a couple years ago when they went on a freakishly large sale on Amazon for one day in late December. My guess is they were dumping stock before the end of the year and were just trying to clear the shelves for new stock because the price cut was around $200. So I unpacked that and set it up as my new primary PS4 Pro console, updated the firmware, downloaded media player, amazon prime and youtube and set up the wifi and lan connections so it will be ready to go for when the current one finally gives out or I designate it to the guest room.

It's getting better though. First the supreme court ruled that people have the right to concealed carry and now states have can choose to make murdering babies illegal. These are both constitutional rights, the right to bear arms and the right to life. The fascist want to take these rights away.

My only consolation is that between Pooh and Pootine we'll probably starve before the world literally catches on fire.

OK, I'm too sick to want to go at length on this but I have two main things to say.
1) Fascism is by definition a far-right ideology. 2) Restricting access to abortion doesn't magically reduce the need, especially if states aren't even going to make exceptions for medical necessity.

The definition of Fascism according to Merriam Webster: A political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. People on the right believe the nation is made of individual people who are all equal and have the same constitutional rights including freedom. These include the freedom to have your own beliefs and the freedom to say those beliefs out loud. They also want a smaller government with less power. How is any of this anywhere near fascism? When is there ever a need for abortion. Most abortions are because people are having sex but not willing to deal with the consequences. I know some people say rape but that is such a small percentage of all abortions. In those cases I think the best thing is for the woman to be offered a morning after pill. It's still ending a life, but I think it's better to do it the day or day after conception than weeks or months later after the baby has started to develop. As far as medical necessity I'll leave a quote from Dr. Alan Guttmacher of planned parenthood. Today it is possible for almost any patient to be brought through pregnancy alive, unless she suffers from a fatal illness such as cancer or leukemia, and, if so, abortion would be unlikely to prolong, much less save, life. My hope is that by making abortions less available women will think more before jumping in bed with someone they don't want to have a child with, or stay abstinent until they are ready to have children. Pro Choice or Pro Life in the end abortion is killing a baby. People can lie to themselves as much as they want but it's murder.

In an ectopic pregnancy, there is no other way but to abort. That fetus has stopped being viable and, if nothing is done about it, it will kill the would-be mother.
That goes for miscarriages too. Sometimes the fetus doesn't come out on its own and extraction becomes necessary.
Also, it takes two to tango and guys need to do their part to keep unwanted pregnancies from happening as well.

In those very few cases if it’s the only option then, as sad as it is, I can agree that abortion is acceptable. I don't consider miscarriages abortion, seeing as the baby is already dead. I agree it takes two, which is why I think the father should also have a decision in abortion. If he wants to keep the child then she shouldn't get the abortion. But as long as it's her body her choice all the pressure is on her. I know if it were the other way around and men got pregnant I would be super careful who I got with and make sure we're both protected.
In the end, although I think it's wrong, I understand the reasons why people are pro choice and it's okay to disagree. To disagree is not to hate, I have no ill feelings toward you or anyone else who disagrees with me. I just hope that you can understand why some of us are pro life and accept we can disagree and still be civil to each other.

Just gonna chime in on #1 as James nicely handled #2.
I know you have a big hate on for anything remotely considered conservative.
Serious question, not looking to debate, just want to know:
Since Biden got in office and Orange Man Bad is not President...do you really think things have gotten better in the US?

In my opinion but that's because they are about 90+% the same person.

I believe I answered this last year about Biden. Something to the effect of "disappointed but not surprised." I never claimed to like the guy, though.
You yourself admitted Trump was an asshole, and that’s a large part of why so many of us were angry with him. He brought a lot of this country's ugliest impulses to the surface and we're still feeling the effects.
I didn't think this country could handle a second term of him, but I also put a lot of this on Dem leadership.

You might disagree, but some of those ugly impulses were brought out by lies from the media, like Trump being a racist. To me the people on the left saying voter ID is racist because black people can't figure out how to get one are the racist.
