ProTip: No matter how much of a night owl you may think you are, working overnights all the time will mess with you.
It's been nearly six months since I left the convenience business and my sleep at night is still erratic.

I knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. Especially now with several other reminders of things that just never panned out practically got shoved in my face.

I don't remember if I've mentioned it before, but I fuckin' hate forced positivity bullshit. I don't care if it's posted on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, someone streams, where ever the fuck. I hate it. Nothing more invalidating than someone random dipshit on the internet saying "Hey, the problems in your mind, those are all fake". Yeah, fuckin' blow me, dumb ass.
Sorry - I get real frickin' angry when it comes to that kind of stuff because those people don't know what I'm going through. You don't necessarily know me or what I'm going through, so these people have no right to tell me what is and isn't important or "real" or "made up". "That stress isn't real" - Spoken like someone who has never been stressed out or high strung in their lives, ever. If someone has it that good, then I'd be fuckin' *amazed* by it. I wish I could be that happy; That I could live life stress-free from everything. Yanno, live in a fantasy world and all that. Ironically enough.
If I'm mad as hell, I may not be mad at any particular person. We're all living through a pandemic. It shouldn't be surprising that some of us are going to be upset. Some of are stressed out. Some of us are miserable. Some people are better off than others.
Fuck.
Okay, I'm done.

The latest Win 10 update seems to have messed with... ...something. At first I thought it might just be a usb drive, but now it seems to crash trying to go through my mp3s etc.

Dealt with that but it means even more stuff on the back burner. This past month in particular has just seemed to be "well that was a waste of your time too, lol"

My last two days of vacation. At least the snow is gone and the temperatures are reasonable. Now I can start the countdown to next year's winter vacation. Can't even look forward to any upcoming holidays because the company usually makes us work those now.
I get to look forward to that first awkward day back where I have to try and remember everything. Even after 9 years, every time I come back from vacation I have to spend my first shift relearning the intricacies of the machines. At least my first three shifts back are night shifts so I don't have to worry about dealing with any management.

One of the worst thing's, coming back to work after a vacation. If you're like me you get to a point where you go numb to forget how miserable your job is. Then vacation comes and you wake up from that numbness. Then vacation's over and you have to get yourself back into that numbness.

Finished my first three shifts in a row back from work. It's funny because I thought I was supposed to work the night shifts, but at 7am Friday morning I get a text from my supervisor telling me there is a harassment meeting at 7. Now I'm lying in bed and figuring I was working the night shift that night and had stayed up all night so I could sleep in the day. I had only been asleep for an hour or so and woke up to that text and reply back, 7 tonight? He says, no right now. I text back I'm not even at work. He responds, overslept? No, I thought I was supposed to be in tonight. The harassment meeting wasn't anything to do with me personally, it was just one of those company things where they make everyone watch a workplace harassment film and then sign a document saying you will abide by it. I'd like to think this harassment thing would accomplish something, but from past experience when you're being harassed by people above you and they're friends with a lot of other people above you, even if something happens when you report it, they just wait for a chance to retaliate against you like they did to Jeremy.
So I was in by 8am and I still had 4 hours of unused vacation time. He said he would just take an hour out of that to cover for my absence and I wouldn't get penalized for lateness. On the good side he did give me my perfect attendance letter for last year telling me I would be getting the $200 bonus. Doesn't even seem worth it when you have to wait 6 months into the next year before you get it, but I'll stick it into the the PS5 fund, which I still haven't found yet. I also ended up getting a $160 tax return that day as well which really surprised me as I usually only get around $50.
Only thing that changed at work while I was gone was all the workplace covid restrictions have finally been lifted.
Definitely not used to working three shifts in a row, the last six hours of shift three I was hurting. We have two people in my shop who may be out permanently with back injuries. One for sure, she'll end up getting a desk job but as an avid competitive horse rider, I think those days are coming to an end for her. So they started training a couple new people in the shop on Friday. From what I hear they still aren't using the on calls, but I think that may start up again soon as I see they have the April on-call sheet up with me being on call night shift of April 26th. I know I said I might sleaze my way out of it if I got called in, but now with new Blade Runner merch on the horizon I may just suck it up and end up doing it if I do get called in.

Ugh, that really sucks that you were called in so early. Why didn't they announce that meeting with more notice? And they are totally screwing over night shifters by only having one meeting for everyone at day shifter hours. I mean, they were just showing a movie, right? They couldn't set that up for people going into the night shift? They expect everyone to show up, regardless of their schedule? ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
That must have been so jarring too, right after you went to sleep.
At least you got the bonus though ๐ฒ ๐ฎ

I tell people at work now that my personal philosophy is to put in my ear buds, keep my mouth shut, put in my hours and get out. It's a non-unionized workplace so you pretty much have to accept whatever they tell you.

I understand needing to resign from a job but don't screw over your coworkers on the way out. That's just bad form.

I've been in retail for a long time but having to retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot as part of my job has been a fresh reminder of the ways customers can fail to show consideration for other people. Even when they leave them in the store it's not uncommon for someone to have done a half-assed job of putting theirs back with the other carts.

Dealing with dubious car dealerships. Just had my regularly scheduled servicing with a $260 price tag. Of course they had a number of additional things they wanted to do for an additional $100 which I declined saying, maybe on the next servicing in October. They also tell me I need about $600+ of brake work done as I have seized calipers, which might be true as this past winter was pretty brutal on my vehicle coming and going through storms. I booked an appointment to have it done in a couple weeks after I get a couple pays under my belt but I still have that nagging feeling that they are up-charging me.
I did catch them doing that when I first bought the vehicle from them when they wanted $430 to replace a splash panel on the underside of my vehicle after it fell off 6 months after I bought it. A quick internet search showed I could probably find a replacement panel for $70 and after I left a poor review on their site and had a call from a rep from their corporate headquarters that $430 turned into a more reasonable $130 repair, but they acted like they had just donated me a kidney for marking the cost down that much.
So anyway, I think I will continue having them do my regular scheduled servicing, but will go back to my old garage for all other needs after this brake repair as now that my free warranty servicing has come to an end, every time I bring it in they always find additional things they want to fix to pump up that bill. They're already reminding me I'm due for a motor vehicle inspection in June, but I'm going to have my old garage do it because I'm already tired of holding my breath when I get the bill and am told what additional work I 'need' done every time I bring it in.

Lazy assholes that park their (usually luxury vehicles) right at the entrance to the grocery store (where itโs clearly marked no parking). Park in a human spot, your lazy ass could probably use the walk. ๐
Or better yet, people parking their (usually luxury) vehicles in HANDICAPPED parking without placards, or sometimes WITH placards, like the asshole who parked his new Jag F-Pace SUV in handicap parking, got out, very fit guy in hospital scrubs, I had the audacity to ask him what horrible handicap he had, and he told me to f$&k off. Nothing but class.
