All right, I've worked out what I needed to work out, I'll be doing testing over the next week or so, I'm sure I'll get JJB's edit fairly soon, so I can start thinking about getting the brackets lined up, and start getting matches recorded.
That said, this is the LAST CALL for themes if you have one in mind for your edit. This isn't a 100% requirement obviously, I'll find something suitable if I need to, but if you have something in mind and I don't already have it from last year's tournament, let me know, give me a link, whatever you need to do. Because yes, I am gonna be using entrances, so people are gonna need them some music. :P

JJB's submitted his edit, so I will be developing the brackets some time this week, and will post them ASAP. Testing will also start up properly this week after Sky's The Limit airs.
All of the usual prep is set to roll, now, so it won't be long before everything's all set to go and I can start recording the first round matches.

I'd planned to hold the opening show of the tournament this Saturday, the 6th, but I don't think I'll be ready for it. I'll be out of town most of this week for the holiday, so I'm going to shoot for a start date of the 13th instead. We'll see how it plays out.

challonge.com/vajm80mqBrackets are finalized. I'll be getting everything set up for the first show on the 13th, which will be the first round of the US side of the bracket. Match order to be determined at some point this week. Get your predictions in! Even I have no idea how this thing's gonna play out.

So, I've got to make a small confession here, the day before the tournament.
I had to make a replacement, and I'm sorry to SamGladwin that it's this close to the event, that it's kind of coming without warning.
I've tried to do everything I can with Edie Queen to get to the point where she's having the match I know is possible, and I just haven't been able to manage it. I've tried damn near everything I can.
I don't want to tell you that Edie Queen is a bad edit. I think it's just a case of two edit philosophies colliding and not quite working out the way we anticipated. I'm going to try and figure out some way to make sure that Sam isn't left out of this thing entirely: I might do an extra match tomorrow between Upside-Down Man and Edie Queen, or something. I dunno.
So, coming to the decision, to ensure that we can get a match that satisfies the audience (and my own desires for how the tournament matches should be), Cecilia Laurence will be stepping in to face Heidi Hansen in the first round.
Again, Sam, I'm really sorry about this. I know I've probably made this kind of a difficult process.

NOW YOU’VE GONE AND RUINED MY PREDICTIONS!
In all seriousness and as someone who’s spent a considerable amount of time simming with the edit in question I can totally understand this decision. That isn’t meant as a knock on the creator either, it’s just that certain edit styles simply don’t mesh well with others and that’s about all that needs to be said.
And with that being said, I’m confident that down the line we’ll see a version of Edie Queen that is more than capable of having blow-away matches with the rest of C!C. That time isn’t now but that’s ok :) 👍

The first night has wrapped, the bracket's been updated, and as of writing this I'm still unsure of how the VoD's gonna turn out in terms of Youtube going "NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT". So we'll find out in a little while, heh. Twitch: www.twitch.tv/videos/452502220Youtube: youtu.be/bBQsTBHhpWkQuick Results Cody def. Ricky Heller Tsaoring Chou def. Wilma Fitch Broman Gains def. Justin Maverick Cecilia Laurence def. Heidi Hansen Justice def. Brian Fury Spectre Ford def. The Magician Daniel Shine def. Rilantha De Nav Maverick Reed def. Uncle Slam Write-ups Things started off hot with this matchup, both men trying their damnedest to keep the other down... Heller working the Figure Four, but it was Cody that put this one away to pick up the first win of the tournament, moving on to the secound round. Wilma Fitch certainly didn't roll over here... despite some thoughts that she may be outmatched, she more than held up against Chou, despite taking the loss in the end. Chou, for his part, showed off an impressive array of high-flying offense... he's going to be tough to beat. Justin Maverick is one of the best around, certainly a superstar in his home fed of Pro Wrestling Revival... but it felt like he ran into a brick wall in Broman Gains, who eventually seemed to overpower Maverick and pulled off one of the bigger wins of the night. Late replacement or not, Cecilia Laurence showed up big tonight, even managing to get through her familiar Reach for the Stars sequence (although that wasn't the match-winner). A quick roll-up scored the win for the Moonwalker, and Cecilia moves on after coming in on short notice. This was a war. Brian Fury seemed to get more and more vicious as this match wore on, with Justice doing his best to stay in the fight, showing that he's got quite a bit of power to work with himself... and shortly after Fury cut him open, Justice seemed to draw up just enough strength to put this one away with a Stretch Plum. These two were relentless. With barely any downtime, there was always something happening... Spectre cut Magician open with some biting early on, and from there it was a sprint to the end, both men pushing each other to the limit until Spectre finally locked in a big elevated Boston Crab to finish things off. A battle of two technicians quickly spiraled out of control as Shine began to land his big suplexes... and at one point, out of frustration from being thrown out of the ring, grabbed a kendo stick and laid into Ril with it. Shine finished this one with a crossface hold, and moved on to the second round, but not without a fight. This just kept escalating further and further, with Slam unable to capitalize on his opportunities while stuffing every single one of Reed's... at least until Reed landed a huge jumping knee and finally picked up the win, after one hell of a fight to get there. Next part of the tournament goes on Wednesday. It'll be the first round of the Canadian part of the bracket.

It wasn't even a case of trying to fish for match rating, it just kind of... happened. All of those sims were one-shot, fire and forget about it.
I don't put terribly much stock into that percentage but even so...

I don't put terribly much stock into that percentage but even so... Same here. While most of the time getting match evaluations like that are directly related to a quality match, there are times when I feel like a match does just enough to meet the rating criteria in game and doesn't tell the full story. There are several hardcore and technical matches that I believe deserve 90+ from a lot of different feds but get sub 85 just because of venue, crowd, or some other variable. Then, there are matches like the one I had between Mr. Anomaly and Nobu Nakazawa at my last show where Nobu spammed half his sigs and Mr. Anomaly won with a CRITICAL! flash pin that got a 97%. Bottom line is it doesn't tell the whole story and I believe any semblance of a match summary from any content creator does more for the match than a game mechanic can possibly do.

Chou, for his part, showed off an impressive array of high-flying offense... he's going to be tough to beat. Wow, great to see that Chou's first match was so competitive and entertaining! Glad that he got to show his stuff. He can sometimes get steamrolled over before making an impression. Win or lose, I'm happy if he can hit his bigger aerial moves, maybe the Worm after the Strike Exchange, and his finisher! I always like his matches best when he makes a comeback and gets in his back grapple reversal kick into his "Sitting down and meditating" taunt which is a Special.
Very glad he hit his Double L(OL)tation Moonsault 😁 for the win!

Tomorrow night, the Canadian half of the bracket takes center stage to kick off their part of the first round... and the match order's starting to take shape. Val vs. 999
Candace Mathews vs. Rebecca Roxx
Joey McCarty vs. Blaine Landry
Savojjin Sesi vs. George Marleau
Donna Nobel vs. Didi Taylor
Nikki Knux vs. Liz Hatcher
Selene Ciel vs. Jimmy Nails
Canadian Grizzly vs. Mackenzie BergeronI don't intend to let a single match disappoint... everyone's getting their time to shine, just like Saturday's show. And I have zero doubts that Grizzly vs. Bergeron has a shot at being one of the best matches of the tournament.

We've made it through the first round... and Saturday will bring the second. Things are moving along nicely, and it's not gonna stop until the very end. Twitch: www.twitch.tv/videos/454324285Youtube: youtu.be/tXDPyvJxuokQuick Results 999 def. Val Rebecca Roxx def. Candace Mathews Joey McCarty def. Blaine Landry George Marleau def. Savojjin Sesi Didi Taylor def. Donna Nobel Nikki Knux def. Liz Hatcher Selene Ciel def. Jimmy Nails Canadian Grizzly def. Mackenzie Bergeron Write-ups Crazy opener from these two, both looking to show their stuff and make sure that everyone knew who to watch... 999's SSP took this one, though, bringing down the returning Val. Rebecca Roxx was on a mission here. While Candace Mathews gave her a fair bit of trouble early, Roxx eventually picked up a huge level of momentum and didn't stop until she'd landed a huge Stunner and picked up the win. This was hard-fought right to the end... vicious strikes landing throughout the entire matchup, until McCarty finally managed to lock in the most Canadian submission there is, the Sharpshooter, to finish things off. "Hoss" was the word of the day for this match, these two bruisers slugging it out until Marleau finally seemed to get the upper hand, landing a crushing Reverse Powerbomb to put this one away... but Sesi sure as hell didn't go quietly. Didi Taylor sometimes felt like she didn't take this one entirely seriously... much to Nobel's annoyance. But Didi's talent is legit... and she eventually scored a surprise win after what felt like a bit of a suspect rope-break. But there can be no doubt that her kicking out of Donna's Theory of Excellence was no fluke... Nikki Knux hasn't lost a single step. Despite the long SHTCWA hiatus, Knux stepped into this match with the reigning AAW Intercontinental Champion without an ounce of fear, and took the fight to Hatcher without any hesitation, even after being sliced open and bleeding badly. A serious of vicious elbows put this one away. Jimmy Nails gave Selene Ciel maybe one of the toughest matches she's seen in a while... while last year's 49th Parallel had no shortage of difficult opponents, Nails felt like he came closer than most to taking down the reigning tournament champion. But Ciel eventually locked in the Gordian Knot, and once again, she's on the road to winning this tournament. Look out, Canada, your favorite son is coming for this tournament. Canadian Grizzly didn't show any hesitation tonight, not even as Mackenzie Bergeron sought to absolutely destroy his knees, and very nearly succeeded... but Grizzly fought back hard, and eventually landed a huge diving elbow drop to polish off the win, and prove that no Quebecer is gonna take him out of this tournament! The second round will take place on Saturday night.
