A very, very solid house show this month... with the new rankings in place, there should be some interesting developments going forward. Quick Results Nana Yoon def. Asha Nelson Rhiannon Banes and Estrella Gratis def. Heather Wild and Josie Wilde Melody Bryant def. Baby Peregrine Keiko Maeda def. Maria Marella Fiona Walsh and Ayako Asami def. Christina Wagner and Rei Hasegawa Emma Travers def. Calista Vargas, Sung Moon and Katherine White Iris Coleman and Leona Sterling def. Tara Helmsley and La Corsaria Jessika Boom def. Diosa Syringa to be added to the Academy Championship match this month Anna Bryant def. Amber Wright Write-ups A solid showing for both women here, with Asha Nelson showing up in a big way compared to her previous runs. But Nana wouldn't be denied here, landing a sharp German dead-center in the ring, fighting out of an Ankle Lock, and eventually landing a huge diving stomp to finish off Nelson, and keeping her spot in the rankings firmly at #18. Nana: 3 points Asha: 2 points Very strong teamwork from both sides here, with the Wild team aiming to overpower their opponents, while Rhiannon and Estrella worked together with their dangerous striking game. Estrella turned up the heat late in this one, landing Shining Axe Kicks on both opponents in rapid succession, and would eventually take the win here, choking out Heather and proving she's already made a lot of progress in her time with the Academy. Rhiannon and Estrella: 5 points Heather and Josie: 4 points A stunning performance here by Melody... while Peregrine did her best to stay a step ahead with her speed and agility, Melody continues to live up to her potential, showing off the strength she's slowly becoming known for. The would-be Suplex Queen of the Academy put the finishing touches on this one with a big-time German Suplex in the center of the ring, and put an end to this very brisk matchup... and rocketed herself up the rankings to take Peregrine's place in the top ten. Melody: 3 points Peregrine: 2 points Maria Marella has suddenly found herself in a tough spot. She struggled throughout the ranking league, and here, just couldn't find her footing against Keiko, trying to wear the young Japanese rookie down... but couldn't muster up enough to do any lasting damage as Keiko locked in her signature submission, quickly becoming known as the Maeda Lock. Keiko, for her part, finally seems to be putting the pieces together... and bad luck may be the only thing keeping her from breaking out. Keiko: 3 points Maria: 2 points This was a match that Christina Wagner would like to forget very soon. There was almost no cohesion between her and Rei Hasegawa... surprising no one. Ayako and Fiona worked reasonably well together, with Ayako once again showing she's perhaps one of the top talents in the Academy. Late in the match, things did start to come together for Christina and Rei... legitimate teamwork finally beginning to take place. And then, the end of the match came and blew it all to hell. Rei was forced out of the ring by referee Eve Blackwood, and could do nothing as Ayako finished off Christina, ending a frustrating night for the German-Canadian. Fiona and Ayako: 6 points Christina and Rei: 5 points A wild 4-way from start to finish, with everyone getting their chance to shine at one point or another. Early on, Katherine seemed to have things under control, delivering the Kamigoye on a few occasions, but after being caught in a counter-pin by Emma Travers, she stormed out of the ring in defeat, sinking down one spot in the rankings to #9. The 3-way portion of the match continued for some time, with some serious skills being shown by all three women... but Sung Moon's Book End would take Calista out of the match, and shortly thereafter, Emma would hit a dragon screw into her Surgical Precision finisher, and remain in the #6 spot. Emma: 6 points Calista and Sung: 5 points Katherine: 4 points For a team of hated rivals, Iris and Leona made things work. Iris seemed very reluctant to actually help her partner for most of this one, only stepping into the ring when tagged in, and it seemed like there wasn't much in the way of legitimate teamwork between the two... not like Corsaria and Tara, who continue to show promise working together, even hitting a Double Spanish Fly out of the corner. But two of the best in the Academy, with even the smallest hint of teamwork, seemed to be enough here: the duo would eventually wear their opponents down, with Leona finally trapping Corsaria in one of her vicious submissions, and forcing a near-instant tapout victory. Iris and Leona: 6 points Tara and Corsaria: 5 points As one would expect of the #1 taking on the #3, Syringa and Jessika had a fantastic match here. It was Syringa's technical lucha prowess taking on Jessika's high-octane offense... and the match swung back and forth wildly throughout, the outcome seemingly in doubt straight up to the very end. Jessika, though, fought through everything that the #1 contender had to throw her way... and finally landed a Dynamite Cutter dead-center in the ring, managing to get back up in time to make the cover, and earning herself a place in the title match at the live show! Jessika: 4 points Syringa: 3 points Amber Wright was in charge for nearly this entire match, and forced the Academy Champion to work from a defensive position for that whole time. Anna was in trouble early, and Amber had a laser-focus on destroying her legs... trying to slow her down, to shake her vertical base and keep her on the mat. Things looked bad when Amber's Side Roll Stunner came out early... but Anna kicked out, and just kept kicking out and enduring everything Amber hit her with. She continued to counter with flash pins and eventually found the strength to lock in the Anaconda Vice a couple of times... but Amber refused to tap. It was a mistake that finally ended this one... Amber prepared to continue her assault on the wounded champion, only to find herself rolled up, Anna picking up a stunning victory over a very, very tough opponent. Amber will still get her shot at the Academy Championship... but it'll have to wait until June, now. Anna: 4 points Amber: 3 points Christina Wagner "I don't want to hear a damn word from Hasegawa about how that loss wasn't her fault... she'll spin this somehow into being MY fault, people aren't worthy of being in the ring with her, the same tired, old line... so here's what I'm gonna do, Rei. You and me at the live show this month so I can show you your place. Bring your little fan club along, I don't care... they can watch me rip you apart."

While Phoenix Rising scales back its cards, being a weekly show and thus kind of needing to slow things down a bit so I don't go slowly but surely insane, the Blackwood Academy only runs live once a month... and that of course means that everyone gets on the card, month after month, because seriously, how else are they supposed to get better? By missing shows? Hardly. ... You all know this by now, five months into the project, but I digress. May's live show looks like this. Baby Peregrine and Nana Yoon vs. Maria Marella and Asha Nelson
#19 Rhiannon Banes vs. #10 Melody Bryant
#21 Estrella Gratis vs. #17 Heather Wild
#11 Ayako Asami vs. #12 La Corsaria vs. #13 Josie Wilde vs. #14 Leona Sterling
#5 Iris Coleman vs. #8 Calista Vargas
#25 Fiona Walsh vs. #16 Tara Helmsley
Emma Travers and Sung Moon vs. Katherine White and Keiko Maeda
#15 Rei Hasegawa vs. #4 Christina Wagner
Amber Wright vs. Eve Blackwood
Anna Bryant vs. Jessika Boom vs. Diosa Syringa for the Academy ChampionshipA surprise win by Melody Bryant over Baby Peregrine earlier this month sent Melody rocketing up the rankings to take Peregrine's spot... and for the time being, Peregrine will try to get back on track by teaming up with Nana Yoon to take on the odd pairing of Asha Nelson and Maria Marella. Both Asha and Maria have struggled to put things together lately, but we'll see if they can function as a team...
Rhiannon Banes has been making an effort to break out lately, but so far, seems to have fallen somewhat short. And here, against Melody Bryant, she's going to have her hands full... Melody's coming off of an impressive win that sent her into the top ten, and it seems like the rookie class is starting to prove themselves more than a match for anyone else on the roster... perhaps in June they'll break away from the early part of the card and begin taking on the other members of the Academy.
Estrella Gratis seems to be finally getting herself together, but she's got a tough match ahead of her as she squares off with Heather Wild, one of the standouts of the rookie class. Still, Heather's still shown a bit of weakness lately... and Estrella could be riding a wave of momentum, already having beaten Heather earlier this month in a tag match... and now she'll seek to repeat that feat one-on-one.
Another big 4-way match here, with the 11th through the 14th ranked Academy members stepping into the ring to raise their stock. Ayako Asami may be the most dangerous woman in this match, but make no mistake, all four of these women are tough as nails, and all will be looking to come away with the best spot of the four: Ayako will have to be at her best to remain at #11.
Calista Vargas is a relative newcomer to the Academy, but she's already made a hell of an impact, exploding onto the scene with a league performance that set her at #8... but even Calista can find her betters, and Iris Coleman will be looking to knock the Brazilian back down to earth en route to preparing to perhaps take a shot at even tougher fare: Iris wants the Academy Championship around her waist sooner rather than later, before she thinks about leaving.
Fiona Walsh, to put it lightly, has struggled quite a bit... alongside Ayako Asami, however, she picked up a win over Rei Hasegawa and Christina Wagner, a much-needed victory even if she wasn't the one to score the fall. She's got Tara Helmsley this month: if Tara can stay focused, she can likely win this match, but if she lets her cocky streak run wild again, Fiona's likely to tear her apart.
Emma Travers typically only finds herself in tag matches alongside fellow De Nav student Anna Bryant... but seeing as Anna is now the Academy Champion, she'll join up with Sung Moon this month instead, taking on an odd team of Katherine White and Keiko Maeda. Keiko's had a hard time finding her footing from day one, and even her mother's extra training doesn't seem to have changed her fortunes... but perhaps having Katherine backing her up will do something for the young rookie.
Christina Wagner is, to put it lightly, displeased with the way things went at the house show this month. Already a match she wanted no part of, a partner she wanted nothing to do with, she blames Rei Hasegawa for their loss in the tag match at that show... and she's fully intent on proving it to Rei here on the live show, and is willing to stake a prime spot in the rankings to do it. A win here would prove Christina's point: that the loss was fully Rei's fault, or at least so she insists. But a loss here would be a disaster for Christina's championship aspirations: and it would set Rei up for a clash at the top very, very soon.
Amber Wright is another young woman that's far from happy about the way things went at the house show this month. Incensed that Jessika Boom was able to leapfrog her for a championship match, she's demanded something be done... and ultimately, she's called out one of the trainers. Eve Blackwood, however, was the only one to respond: with the other trainers otherwise pre-occupied, Eve is currently the only one that's likely to be around for this show, and she seems intent on knocking Amber down a peg.
Anna Bryant will have a very, very tough test ahead of her in her first title defense: two challengers, both vying to take her down. Jessika Boom earned her shot by beating Diosa Syringa, the #1 contender, and despite being ranked #3, jumps over #2 Amber Wright... who lost her match against Anna, ensuring that she'll simply have to wait for next month's show. Anna, meanwhile, seems determined to not let her reign end so soon... she's fully prepared to take on both women here, and enter June still the Academy Champion.

Despite a late start, this month's Academy show went at a nice, brisk pace. Twitch: www.twitch.tv/videos/430003172Youtube: youtu.be/lIWS7GL4hF4Quick Results Maria Marella and Asha Nelson def. Baby Peregrine and Nana Yoon Rhiannon Banes def. Melody Bryant Estrella Gratis def. Heather Wild Leona Sterling def. Ayako Asami, La Corsaria, Josie Wilde Iris Coleman def. Calista Vargas Fiona Walsh def. Tara Helmsley Sung Moon and Emma Travers def. Katherine White and Keiko Maeda Christina Wagner def. Rei Hasegawa Amber Wright def. Eve Blackwood Anna Bryant def. Jessika Boom and Diosa Syringa to retain the Academy Championship Write-ups Maria Marella seems to have finally found a tag team partner she can rely on: two matches alongside Asha Nelson, and two victories, though it's entirely possible she simply has Nana Yoon's number... this will likely be settled properly at June's live show, with the Academy planning to put Maria up against Nana one-on-one at that show. Maria and Asha: 4 points Nana and Peregrine: 3 points One hell of a showing for Rhiannon Banes, who finally showed what she's really capable of here, enduring Melody's powerful onslaught to fire right back with her dangerous strikes. A crushing Superman Punch rockets the young Welsh rookie up the rankings, into the top ten... Rhiannon: 3 points Melody: 2 points Estrella Gratis is coming into her own. She's finally seeming to figure everything out... making her moveset her own and taking her opponents to task without any hesitation. This match was no different: she absolutely tore into Heather Wild, who never really seemed to get it going, and a big knee to the face wrapped this one up in a big way. Estrella: 3 points Heather: 2 points This match showcased the strategies of each woman involved: Josie sought to bring her surprising power into play, Ayako to use her well-rounded skills to outplay the others, Leona to bring her shoot-fighting talents to bear... and Corsaria, her agility and opportunistic talents. Josie was the first one down, eliminated by Ayako... who was taken out herself a few minutes later, suplexing Leona out of the ring. But while she recovered, Corsaria saw her chance... and landed a CRUSHING 450 Splash that took Ayako out of the match. But the moment Leona was back on her feet and in the ring, she rolled Corsaria into one of her devastating submissions, and polished off the match... she clearly has her sights set on reclaiming the title that Anna Bryant took from her last month. Leona: 4 points Ayako and Corsaria: 3 points Josie: 2 points As good as Calista Vargas is, Iris Coleman is, without a doubt, one of the best in the entire Academy. There is absolutely no questioning it after this one: while Calista did her best to keep the match on the move, Iris ultimately overpowered the young Brazilian, and after a sharp combo that took out Calista at the knees, a tight submission left her with nowhere to go... and Iris continues to look like a dominant force, close to the top of the rankings and poised for her chance at the Academy Championship. Iris: 4 points Calista: 3 points Fiona Walsh finally picks up the win that's eluded her for the past few matches. Stuck at the bottom of the rankings after the league, Fiona found herself struggling to get it all put together... but here, the pieces all fell into place, and she picks up a major victory over Tara Helmsley. Fiona: 3 points Tara: 2 points Try as she might, Katherine couldn't overcome one issue in the beginning of this one: Sung Moon's penchant for busting open her opponents with sharp, painful knees. Katherine was a bloody mess for a lot of this one, and Keiko wasn't able to provide enough of a backup... though this one was close. Sung Moon landed a Book End, and Keiko was slow to react... by the time she stepped in to break up the pin, Emma had placed herself in the middle, and the three-count came just in time. Emma and Sung: 5 points (Yeah, I'm giving them the 20-minutes. Two seconds off, fuck it.) Katherine and Keiko: 4 points Referee Eve Blackwood took her leave before this match to prepare for her match with Amber Wright (right after this one)... and replacing her was none other than Shiana Sentarl, much to Rei Hasegawa's visible frustration. Indeed, not long after the bell rang, she plowed into Shiana, bowling her over before the match had even gotten a chance to breathe. She controlled much of the early match, too, with Christina Wagner struggling to gain any sort of foothold. Eventually, though, a crushing chokeslam signaled the shift in momentum... and Rei went into panic mode, trying to keep Christina down. But the German-Canadian powerhouse didn't let up... knocking Rei flat and winding up in the corner, sprinting across the ring to deliver a massive elbow strike that nearly took Rei's head off. The three-count was academic after that. Christina: 3 points Rei: 2 points Amber was determined to make a statement tonight: if anyone deserved to be fighting for the Academy Championship, it was her. That said, she certainly made her case well: while Eve did her best to keep Amber locked down, working the arms as she always does, Amber was in no mood to lose to the Academy's trainer. A stiff right hand nearly took Eve out, but her twisting Stunner got the job done... after she hit it for the third time, at least. Amber stands as June's #1 contender for the Academy Championship... and she may yet stand tall next month if she repeats her performance from this match. Amber: 3 points Anna Bryant was determined to prove that her beating Leona Sterling was no fluke. And it was her repertoire of flash pins that won the day: while she tapped into Ril's Anaconda Vice heavily in this one, it was the quick, technical roll-ups that carried the Academy Champion to a big win, first catching Jessika Boom in a quick, tight pin, then later rolling Diosa Syringa up in response to her attempting another move. Anna's confidence is soaring... she's no longer the timid young rookie who expressed shock at actually winning a match. We're witnessing a champion, here... and Anna could be on her way out of the Academy onto a major roster, soon enough. Anna: 5 points Syringa: 4 points Jessika: 3 points Amber Wright "You enjoy that win, Anna. You soak it in, you let it breathe. 'cause here's the deal: it doesn't matter that you beat me at the house show this month, it doesn't matter that I gotta wait one more month to get my shot at that title. Because when I do... when you and I face each other again... it's not gonna be in the quiet little dojo, it's not gonna be for an audience of 20 people, all of which are the other girls watching at ringside... no, no, we're gonna be facing each other in the Phoenix Rising arena, and you're gonna choke on the big stage, just like you did that whole stretch of time before you came here, while you were on Proving Ground. You're no champion, Anna, you know it, I know it, everyone knows it, and fluking your way through matches with those quick little roll-ups is only gonna get you so far... before I show you exactly what I've learned from my mother, and you feel this right hand across your chin. Just ask Old Lady Eve how that feels." Anna Bryant "Call it a fluke all you want. But the fact remains that I won the title and now, I've defended it in a way that Leona never did. I had to beat two other women to keep this title where it's at, I had to endure everything they had to throw my way, and I'm still standing, I'm still the champion. And when we go down south back to the Phoenix Rising arena, Amber, I'm still gonna be champion... because you said it yourself, I already beat you once, and I'll do it again. It doesn't matter if I win the match off something big... the Anaconda Vice, my Small Package Bomb, a big suplex... or if I just snap you up and pin you, because the result's the same in the end: I win, you lose, and you walk to the back of the line. I'll see you next month, Amber."

Rei Hasegawa:(In Japanese) <This was simply intolerable. To begin with, how is a refined individual such as myself supposed to improve her technique and style when pitted against such a simplistic brute? All she knows is strength! This Wagner woman is not compatible with my superior pedigree and is not the type of competitor that anyone can have a proper match with. That was an absolute mistake in the first place. Secondly, have I not made myself clear when I have said that I will not be refereed by Shiana Sentarl yet again? She has an undeniable bias against me, obviously my class, my upbringing and my blossoming youthful beauty have fueled her jealousy and have made her an improper choice for my matches. Please rectify this problem in the future or I will be forced to take drastic measures.>

Big stuff coming out of the Academy this Saturday... a big house show following Anna Bryant's championship defense at Sky's The Limit, the biggest stage that the Academy's ever been on. Asha Nelson and Amber Wright vs. Rhiannon Banes and Diosa Syringa
Maria Marella vs. Estrella Gratis
Keiko Maeda and Rei Hasegawa vs. Nana Yoon and Jessika Boom
Fiona Walsh vs. Emma Travers
Baby Peregrine vs. Katherine White
La Corsaria and Tara Helmsley vs. Sung Moon and Ayako Asami
Leona Sterling vs. Calista Vargas
Iris Coleman vs. Heather Wild
Main Event: Anna and Melody Bryant vs. Christina Wagner and Josie Wilde Opening things up, Amber Wright finds herself empty-handed after a disappointing defeat in her challenge... she'll team up with rookie Asha Nelson to take on Rhiannon Banes and Diosa Syringa, neither to be taken lightly. If Amber wants to rise back up through the ranks, it won't be an easy path... Maria Marella continues to impress... but so does Estrella Gratis. The two strong up-and-comers will square off one-on-one... though no doubt Maria will be looking to team back up with reliable partner Asha Nelson again before too long. Rei Hasegawa is going to be in another tag match... perhaps Keiko Maeda will work better with the arrogant young rookie? They'll be staring down a wild team, though: Nana Yoon and Jessika Boom are both immensely talented, and Rei will certainly want to keep an eye out. At least she can take solace in the fact that Shiana Sentarl will not be in Vancouver this weekend... Fiona Walsh looks like she's on the verge of a breakthrough... finally finding her footing in the Academy, and seeks to prove it against Emma Travers. But make no mistake: Emma is still one of the premiere technicians in the Academy, and Fiona's sure to have her hands full dealing with this one. Baby Peregrine remains one of the top talents in the Academy, nobody can doubt that. Katherine White, though, seems prepared to knock the young luchadora down a peg, but she'll have to keep pace first, and that won't be an easy task. The familiar team unites once again: if the Academy had tag titles, La Corsaria and Tara Helmsley would likely be first in line for them. But they'll be taking on another team that's very familiar with each other: Sung Moon and Ayako Asami. Let the sparks fly here: this'll likely be one of the best tag matches the Academy's ever seen. Calista Vargas exploded onto the scene when she debuted with the Academy, and now she's got her attention on the former champion, Leona Sterling. It's a battle of speed and agility against vicious striking and submission ability here... and Calista's putting her #5 rank on the line, as well! Iris Coleman had a lot to say ahead of this show... and Heather Wild appears to have drawn the short straw and will be taking her on here. Heather's been impressive, especially as part of the rookie class, but the Wrecking Ball has more than lived up to her nickname... Finally, this show's main event: The Bryant Sisters are a team again, Anna and Melody set to take on Anna's next challenger and one of the most dangerous rookies in the entire Academy in Josie Wilde. Christina Wagner will be looking to make a statement here: a win over the Bryants could spell trouble for the Academy Champion. Iris Coleman "So here we are... Anna Bryant, still your Academy Champion, still outplaying opponents with every trick in the book, rolling people up from any position she can find. But you got the nastiest one-two punch of challengers coming up, girl... Christina Wagner, the quick jab, the setup, and I know, you know, the world knows, you can beat her. Nobody's gonna drop from the quick jab, least of all you... but you gotta remember who's next in line. And you better BELIEVE I'm gonna be next in line when July's show rolls around, because if you think for one SECOND that Heather Wild's gonna beat me here, you're living in a dream world. You are looking at the hard right hook, the knockout blow, the shot that leaves you laying on the mat wondering what the hell just hit you. You are looking at the Academy's top talent, you are looking at the next SUPERSTAR, you are looking at the single best thing ever to come out of Cincinnati, Ohio! And all the respect in the world to you, Anna... you beat Christina Wagner this month, you hold on to that title, you keep it nice and warm... and come July, it's coming home with me. Guaranteed."

The stage is set for June's show, which of course is going to be a fairly major one: three months have passed since the last Academy show in the Phoenix Rising arena, and they'll be coming back on the 29th. But for now, they continued in the Academy dojo, with a few shocking results this month... Quick Results Amber Wright and Asha Nelson def. Rhiannon Banes and Diosa Syringa Maria Marella def. Estrella Gratis Nana Yoon and Jessika Boom def. Rei Hasegawa and Keiko Maeda Emma Travers def. Fiona Walsh Baby Peregrine def. Katherine White Sung Moon and Ayako Asami def. La Corsaria and Tara Helmsley Leona Sterling def. Calista Vargas Iris Coleman def. Heather Wild Josie Wilde and Christina Wagner def. Anna and Melody Bryant Write-ups Strong showing here from both teams, surprisingly good teamwork on either side, with Amber and Asha proving an effective unit. Asha turned up the heat late in this one, landing a big Cutter and locking in an Ankle Lock, but both were in the opposing corner. However, Amber would tag in shortly thereafter, and laid Rhiannon out with her signature punch, that devastating right inherited from Winifred... and picked up a much-needed win after her disappointing loss to Anna Bryant on Monday. Asha and Amber: 5 points Rhiannon and Syringa: 4 points Maria exploded right out of the gate in this one, going for flying armbars straight away and intending to rip Estrella's arms right out of their sockets throughout the match. But Estrella wasn't going quietly here, bringing her dangerous striking game into play in a hurry in turn... still, a race to the finish wound up swinging back to Maria's favor, as while she wasn't able to get the submission victory, she was able to nail a harsh reverse DDT and pick up a very, very solid victory. Maria: 3 points Estrella: 2 points Complete chaos from the start, quick tags were the order of the day here, mostly between Keiko and Rei. They were a solid team together, and the presence of Rei's fanclub was a factor as well, with both Okamura and Aoki getting involved to distract referee Eve Blackwood. Keiko appeared to be in control against Jessika Boom, but slipped up just long enough for Jessika to lock in a Bow and Arrow... and before Rei could step in, Keiko was forced to tap out, giving Jessika and Nana Yoon the hard-fought victory. Jessika and Nana: 6 points Keiko and Rei: 5 points Emma Travers has steadily come into her own as a masterful technician, and those skills were on display in this match. The early parts belonged to Emma, outplaying Fiona Walsh at almost every turn, but soon enough the tide began to turn as Fiona began landing her more devastating offense, twice locking in the Anaconda Vice after a vicious piledriver. Emma endured, however, but still looked to be in trouble, at least until she managed to catch Fiona in a quick counter roll-up to steal the win, and defend her #3 ranking. Emma: 4 points Fiona: 3 points Maybe the biggest upset in ages for the Academy: Peregrine came out swinging and didn't let up even when Katherine seemed to find her rhythm. Cocky as Katherine tends to be, she made far too many mistakes: letting Peregrine get to the ropes too often, pinning in parts of the ring better left avoided, and allowing Peregrine to get back into the match, finally snapping her up in a rana-pin. Katherine takes a MASSIVE tumble in the rankings from this loss, while Peregrine shoots up to #6, once again putting her at the top of the rookie class, just in front of Rhiannon Banes. Peregrine: 4 points Katherine: 3 points All-out war between the two most experienced tag teams in the Academy at this point. Tara and Corsaria were both bloodied early in this one (which has led to Sung Moon being issued a warning about her tendency for this), but they fought with everything they had throughout, giving their all to hang tough with their opponents, and only falling due to positioning and teamwork. A sharp cutter from Ayako took Corsaria down and put this absolute war to rest. Sung and Ayako: 6 points Tara and Corsaria: 5 points Tough match for Calista here, with Leona bringing everything in her arsenal to bear against the Brazilian. Calista just couldn't keep pace, though she tried to keep Leona down where she could, but eventually the Scot's submission game caught up to her. Leona once again proves just how dangerous she is with another impressive victory, one that she never really seemed to be in danger of losing. Leona: 3 points Calista: 2 points The Wrecking Ball more than lived up to her name here, but it can't be overstated just how tough Heather Wild made this for her. As tough as Iris Coleman is, Heather held her ground and looked like she might be able to make the comeback... but a crushing STO followed by that devastating lariat finally put this one away in dominant fashion. Still, a good showing for Heather here. Iris: 3 points Heather: 2 points For how little Iris Coleman thinks of Christina Wagner, it's hard to deny that Anna Bryant's reign as Academy Champion could be in serious danger after seeing this match. The German-Canadian is a powerhouse, maybe one of the toughest in the entire Academy, and she ran roughshod over both Bryant sisters despite their impressive teamwork, throwing both Anna and Melody around like ragdolls almost at will, and eventually crushing Melody with a chokeslam. Josie was no slouch here herself, tearing through the champion surprisingly easily as well... could Anna find herself beaten at the end of the month? Christina and Josie: 6 points Anna and Melody: 5 points Christina Wagner "Iris Coleman talks a lot... tries to make everyone forget one simple fact. She has yet to win when it truly matters... failing to capture the Academy Championship, failing to win the tournament that started this... and she has never beaten me. For all her bluster, all the arrogance, she's never beaten me and never won a match with something on the line... and when I beat Anna Bryant later this month, when I capture the Academy Championship for myself, the story will be the same. Iris Coleman can't beat me. She never will, and she will never hold the Academy Championship... not as long as I'm here." Keiko Maeda <I have no excuses. Rei Hasegawa will no doubt be frustrated as always... upset, at my failure. I will not let this happen again. I will not allow myself to continue struggling this way... I come from a legend, and I refuse to let this continue. I will not let my mother down again. And if we are ever to team again, Hasegawa, I will not let YOU down again."

"I look forward to my next match. Regardless of opponent."
*The reporter asks Estrella if there is anyone in the academy she'd like to work a match with.*
"Honestly, I grew up watching the Peregrine family work. I'd love to either tag with, or face off against, the youngest in their lineage. We have yet to cross paths, but maybe in the future the stars will align that way."

Smart person that I am, I nearly forgot to book this show... two days away from it. So before we focus on Evergreen later tonight: #11 Josie Wilde vs. #7 Rhiannon Banes
Keiko Maeda and Rei Hasegawa vs. Melody Bryant and Emma Travers
#18 Heather Wild vs. #4 Sung Moon
Nana Yoon and Estrella Gratis vs. Asha Nelson and Maria Marella
#6 Baby Peregrine vs. #22 Tara Helmsley
La Corsaria and Amber Wright vs. Jessika Boom and Diosa Syringa
#10 Ayako Asami vs. #5 Leona Sterling
#8 Calista Vargas vs. #13 Fiona Walsh
#2 Iris Coleman vs. #19 Katherine White
Christina Wagner vs. Anna Bryant for the Academy ChampionshipJosie Wilde opens things up this month against the Welsh rookie, Rhiannon Banes. No doubt this one will turn into a brawl in a hurry, with both women stronger than they look... and no doubt it'll be a rough one by the time it's all said and done.
Keiko Maeda and Rei Hasegawa are going to give a second shot to their fledgling tag team, this time to take on the unusual pairing of Melody Bryant and Emma Travers. Keiko seems determined not to let Hasegawa down a second time... but can this team manage to overcome their struggles and pick up a win?
Heather Wild faces another tough test in Sung Moon... perhaps one of the most dangerous women in the Academy. Still, Moon has been warned about her penchant for busting her opponents open with knees, and she's stated that it shouldn't happen again this month... Heather will nevertheless be on the lookout for trouble.
Nana Yoon teams up with Estrella Gratis this month, set to take on the growing success of Asha Nelson and Maria Marella. With a partner Maria can seemingly rely on, can the odd pairing of Korean and Mexican stand up?
Baby Peregrine continues to impress month after month, but now she faces off against another difficult test in Tara Helmsley. Still, coming off of a huge victory over Katherine White has Peregrine riding a wave of momentum... a win here would keep Peregrine in the hunt for that top spot and a shot at the Academy Championship.
La Corsaria finds herself without her usual partner... instead joining up with Amber Wright to take on the equally-unusual duo of Jessika Boom and Diosa Syringa. In what could be one of Syringa's final Academy matches, can they weather the storm of a team with as much talent as Corsaria and Amber?
Ayako Asami remains one of the most dominant powerhouses in the Academy, and once again she finds herself flying solo, this time against former Academy Champion Leona Sterling. The Scottish fighter will be looking to keep her spot near the top... but Ayako may have other ideas in mind.
Calista Vargas may be the newest addition to the Academy, but she's been an absolute dynamo from day one. She'll take on Fiona Walsh in a clash of styles, Calista's high-flying, agile offense against Fiona's dangerous striking and submissions.
Iris Coleman is taking a chance... allowing herself to be booked one-on-one, knowing that it puts her #2 ranking at risk, her title shot almost guaranteed next month. But Iris is a fighter... and she'll be looking to take Katherine White down here, and remind the entire Academy just how dangerous she really is.
Anna Bryant faces maybe the toughest test of her young championship reign. Christina Wagner may be the strongest woman in the Academy in terms of sheer, raw power, and Anna will need to dig deep into her technical prowess if she wants to come away still holding the Academy Championship...

Despite the rush to get this one put together, it went pretty damn well in the end. Twitch: www.twitch.tv/videos/446186050Youtube: youtu.be/liv1WLWpmY4Quick Results Rhiannon Banes def. Josie Wilde Emma Travers and Melody Bryant def. Rei Hasegawa and Keiko Maeda Sung Moon def. Heather Wild Nana Yoon and Estrella Gratis def. Asha Nelson and Maria Marella Baby Peregrine def. Tara Helmsley Diosa Syringa and Jessika Boom def. La Corsaria and Amber Wright Leona Sterling def. Ayako Asami Calista Vargas def. Fiona Walsh Katherine White def. Iris Coleman Anna Bryant def. Christina Wagner to retain the Academy Championship Write-ups Strong matchup from the rookies here to open the show. Josie had control through a lot of this one, but clearly got cocky throughout the match, eventually culminating in her taunting a downed Rhiannon... who promptly got to her feet, nailed a strong punch to the jaw, and followed that up with a Superman Punch to finish the job. Rhiannon: 3 points, Josie: 2 points Once again, Rei and Keiko looked strong as a team... but once again, despite this, the night ended in defeat for the Japanese pair. Melody and Emma went to work, and Emma locked in Surgical Precision late in the match on Keiko... with Rei close enough to make the save, if Keiko hadn't tapped out almost immediately. Keiko looked almost despondent after this loss... Emma and Melody: 5 points, Rei and Keiko: 4 points Dominance from Sung Moon here... although Heather tried to put up a fight against the Korean, it just wasn't nearly enough, and a Book End put this one away in fairly short order. Sung Moon continues to run through her opponents... the future looks bright. Sung: 3 points, Heather: 2 points Stunning effort from Asha and Maria here, but equally impressive were Nana Yoon and Estrella Gratis. Overall, strong teamwork on both sides, but a massive jumping knee from Estrella took Asha out, and Nana blocked the save, securing the victory. Nana and Estrella: 4 points, Asha and Maria: 3 points Match of the night, without a doubt. Potentially Academy match of the year, to boot. These two took it to each other, gave everything they had, and the quick flash pins, the huge power shown by Tara... the struggles on both sides as they sought that victory. Tara, however, had that cocky streak get in her way again... nailing her Cerebral Assassination finisher, and taunting a downed Peregrine rather than finishing her off. Peregrine would fight back and roll Tara up to finish the victory and stay up near the top of the rankings. Peregrine: 5 points, Tara: 4 points Corsaria and Amber worked well together despite not being regular partners... but Jessika and Syringa, equally inexperienced as a team, were ready for everything coming their way as well. This one was a fight to the finish, with Corsaria nailing a couple of Shining Wizards but turning out too exhausted to finish... eventually, Syringa would take out Amber, then lock the Strangle Hold Gamma on Corsaria to secure the submission win. Syringa and Jessika: 6 points, Corsaria and Amber: 5 points Leona was struggling to get her usual gameplan going in this one... Ayako was relentless, never letting Leona bring her dangerous submissions into play. So Leona improvised... and reminded Ayako that she's far from a one-trick wrestler, leveling her Japanese opponent with consistent strike flurries, eventually wearing Ayako down enough to pick up the victory... the former Academy Champion once again shows that she's more than capable of holding her own even when things look their worst. Leona: 3 points, Ayako: 2 points Calista was in charge of the early match... but Fiona found her footing mid-way, and started to overwhelm the young Brazilian. Things looked bleak as Fiona landed her Mayan Suplex... but Calista powered out of it. Fiona was still in control, though... things still looked bad... and out of pure desperation, perhaps her last ounce of strength, Calista came to life, landing a huge jumping facebuster, and covering Fiona to pick up a massive comeback victory! Calista: 4 points, Fiona: 3 points Did Iris look past this match? Was she so confident in her championship match next month that she forgot how dangerous Katherine can be? She had control of this one for a good while... but Katherine eventually came to life, and eventually went on a rampage, overwhelming Iris with move after move, locking the Wrecking Ball into submissions, before hitting a pair of Guitarra bombs... a move she now insists be called "Kat's Cradle". She's certainly earned the right... beating Iris Coleman like this has set her up with an Academy Championship match at the end of July! Katherine: 4 points, Iris: 3 points Anna Bryant was not going to be denied this one. Although Iris's boasting had led to her losing her own match, she was right about one thing: Anna could weather this storm, handling Christina despite giving up a major size and strength difference. While Christina showed off her impressive power, and a moment on the outside led to a very close call on a countout (ending at a count of 18), Anna would eventually dig deep, and lock in the Anaconda Vice, once again picking up a win with her teacher's submission hold, and remains the Academy Champion for another month. Anna: 4 points, Christina: 3 points Keiko Maeda <... I don't know what to say. It's happened again. I've let Rei Hasegawa down. I failed once again to live up to my name. I've done nothing but fail since I began here. I don't know what else I can do... who I can turn to. Where do I go from here...?> Katherine White "That's what you get. You look past me? You pay the price. I'm not like Rachel, you got it? I don't blow it when I'm given a shot, I take it and I don't let go. Iris Coleman, the Wrecking Ball... yeah, that's all real great, but you got wrecked yourself. Two Kat's Cradles, back-to-back, you should've stayed down the first time, Iris... I saw that dazed, confused look in your eyes, trying to figure out just how you were losing. But you should know why... because I'm the best in the Academy, and I'm gonna prove it next month when I beat Anna Bryant, I take the Academy Championship, and I make sure the world knows that it's ME that deserves to be on top..."

~*Estrella Gratis*~
-Translated from Spanish- "I couldn't be more proud of myself and Nana Yoon tonight. The language barrier was obviously very difficult to overcome, but we managed to speak to each other through our actions more than our words. When I landed that Crepusculo, I thought for sure the pin would be broken up, but Nana was right there, blocking the save attempt. I may have had my doubts when the match was announced, but I would tag with Nana Yoon anytime." Estrella smiles to the crowd and waving before heading back inside.

Once again, I forgot about the Academy show happening tomorrow. But here's your card, and what you can expect... Rei Hasegawa and Keiko Maeda vs. Sung Moon and Nana Yoon
Fiona Walsh vs. Tara Helmsley
Ayako Asami vs. La Corsaria
Maria Marella and Asha Nelson vs. Estrella Gratis and Calista Vargas
Rhiannon Banes vs. Josie Wilde Diosa Syringa vs. Jessika Boom vs. Amber Wright vs. Christina Wagner Baby Peregrine vs. Emma Travers Leona Sterling vs. Iris Coleman Main Event: Katherine White and Heather Wild vs. Anna Bryant and Melody BryantThe fledgling team that is Rei and Keiko finds themselves with another tough one this time around: with Sung Moon teaming up with fellow Korean Nana Yoon. Hasegawa and Maeda will be seeking that elusive victory: they need something to prove themselves, and with Rei's fanclub called away to Lightning Pro and not present here, Rei's going to have to handle this with only her tag partner to support her. At the very least, though, Keiko seems to have a lot of respect for her brash young partner... could Rei have picked up another fan?
Fiona Walsh continues to try to fight her way up the ranks... but it hasn't been an easy path. Enter Tara Helmsley... who's proven very dangerous, when she manages to focus long enough. That's the question here: can Tara stay focused and take down a struggling Fiona?
Ayako Asami continues to take the Academy by storm, but the rest of the roster seems to have figured her out... La Corsaria seeks to prove that. Ayako will have to test her skills against the dangerous Scottish pirate, and there's no telling just how this might go.
Maria and Asha continue to be an impressive team together, but their opponents this week have been two of the most impressive wrestlers in the entire Blackwood Academy as of late. Estrella Gratis and Calista Vargas have both shown signs of becoming future stars, and they're sure to keep their opponents guessing all night...
Rhiannon Banes steps into the ring against Josie Wilde in a match that'll be almost guaranteed to be a rough, vicious brawl. Both rookies have fought their way up the rankings, with Rhiannon just barely trailing Baby Peregrine outside of the top 5... but Josie will surely be after a shot at that spot herself.
The bottom of the rankings can nevertheless lead us to some wild matchups. The last four women, all down at the bottom of the list, square off to fight for their chance to at least move up a little bit... and considering they've all had their shots at the Academy gold, nobody can look past this one.
Baby Peregrine continues to be one of the best rookies in the Academy, and she could very easily set herself up with the opportunity of a lifetime... but she's got to get through Emma Travers, who currently stands as the next in line for a shot at the Academy Championship after Katherine White. Peregrine, though, could become the first rookie to challenge for that title... and what a night that could turn out to be.
Iris Coleman made a big mistake in challenging Katherine White last month... but, undaunted, even after losing her near-guaranteed shot at the Academy Championship, she won't back down now. Iris takes on former champion Leona Sterling once again, and this time, she'll look to beat down the Scottish fighter and rise back up through the ranks.
Finally, the main event sees the challenger and the champion squaring off in tag action: both told to choose one of the rookies for a tag partner. Katherine opted to take Heather Wild, while Anna Bryant of course went for her younger sister, Melody... could this set the tone for their championship match at the end of the month?

The Academy's house show for July has been wrapped up, and there were a few surprises to be had. Quick Results Sung Moon and Nana Yoon def. Rei Hasegawa and Keiko Maeda Tara Helmsley def. Fiona Walsh Ayako Asami def. La Corsaria Maria Marella and Asha Nelson def. Calista Vargas and Estrella Gratis Rhiannon Banes def. Josie Wilde Amber Wright def. Christina Wagner, Diosa Syringa, and Jessika Boom Emma Travers def. Baby Peregrine Iris Coleman def. Leona Sterling Katherine White and Heather Wild def. Anna and Melody Bryant Write-ups No shame here in the opener from either side, but the Koreans were just one step ahead this time as Nana Yoon busted out a TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER, finishing off Rei Hasegawa while Sung Moon cut off the save from Keiko Maeda. Another rough one for Rei and Keiko, the latter of which continues to struggle to find any sort of success in the Academy. Nana and Sung: 5 points Rei and Keiko: 4 points Although we saw the return of the cocky, taunts-on-a-whim Tara Helmsley, it seemed to work as it clearly got under Fiona Walsh's skin. Fiona never quite brought the full force of her offense to bear, and Tara took full advantage... although Fiona did kick out of multiple Cerebral Assassinations, and Tara had to resort to a quick roll-up to get the job done. Tara: 5 points Fiona: 4 points It felt like there might be some bad blood between these two, as they ripped into each other right from the opening bell, and landed some major moves before very long. Corsaria's Shining Wizard saw the Scottish pirate unable to capitalize, and a short brawl on the outside saw Ayako's MI-KO Bomber striking a blow on the outside... but it was a quick, snappy flash pin that finally put this one to rest and gave Ayako the win, and a small boost up the rankings. Ayako: 4 points Corsaria: 3 points For two women who haven't teamed before (and don't share a native language), Calista and Estrella handled themselves well here. But Maria and Asha are already looking like a strong unit, and they eventually seemed to take the lead, culminating in Maria locking in an armbar on Estrella, all while Calista was dealing with Asha off to the side. Strong victory for Maria and Asha here, both looking like future contenders. Maria and Asha: 5 points Estrella and Calista: 4 points This was maybe the single most impressive performance of Rhiannon Banes's young career. She was utterly dominant for most of this match, with Josie doing her best to try and fight her way back into it... but Rhiannon would not be denied, and a series of vicious elbows put an end to this one and gave the Welsh rookie one of the single most impressive victories of the night. Rhiannon: 3 points Josie: 2 points What can be said about Amber Wright after this one? Despite her recent struggles, she came out swinging here, and didn't let up clear up to the very end... and indeed, almost equaled SATOMI's feat from a few weeks back by sweeping this 4-way match, first choking Christina Wagner out with a Cobra Clutch, then hitting a big moonsault on Jessika Boom... then, after seemingly looking to destroy Diosa Syringa's legs, hit her massive Side Roll Stunner and put the luchadora down for good. Pure, simple dominance from one of the best in the Academy. A side note: due to Eve Blackwood taking a harsh bump in the Rhiannon vs. Josie match, a replacement had to be found for this one... but with Shiana Sentarl out hurt, and Christina Wagner participating, they had to look elsewhere. Luckily, Eri Sentarl was visiting the Academy for this show... and is, in fact, a trained referee! Eve would return after this one, although the show was paused for a short time to let her recover properly. (I mean, I've gotta find an excuse to use that ref sometime.) Amber: 6 points Syringa: 5 points Jessika: 4 points Christina: 3 points Peregrine's going to have to wait for her shot a bit longer... Emma Travers was not willing to give up her spot so easily, taking it to the young luchadora without any hesitation. Emma's shown herself to be a real threat at this point, and worked over Peregrine's legs badly before Peregrine made a crucial error that Emma capitalized on. (rana-bombs... gotta love 'em) Emma: 3 points Peregrine: 2 points Unlike the Ayako vs. Corsaria match, there was absolutely no doubt that there's some hatred between these two... and Iris made damn sure everyone knew it, especially Leona. The very same knees that Sung Moon was requested to stop using (as she was making anyone and everyone bleed with them) were put to great effect here by Iris for the same reason, leaving Leona a bloody mess en route to a vicious beatdown, capped off by Iris choking out Leona and reminding the Academy just how dangerous she really is... and that her match with Katherine last month might've just been a fluke. Leona tumbles down hard in the rankings... and Iris fights her way back into the top five. Iris: 3 points Leona: 2 points Katherine White has her sights set on capturing the Academy Championship, and she may very well have what it takes. Overlooked by Iris Coleman, overlooked by perhaps everyone involved... she's not likely to be overlooked now as her performance alongside Heather Wild here was nothing short of vicious. While Melody gave it her all while she was in the ring, Katherine sensed weakness from the young rookie, and eventually caught her in a submission hold that she cranked back hard on... and sent a message to the champion that she might be next. Katherine and Heather: 4 points Anna and Melody: 3 points Katherine White "You look past me any longer and you're gonna get sent off. You even think about treating me like an afterthought and I'll be right there to bring you back to reality and take the Academy Championship from you. I'm not going to be seen as a fluke, a joke, I'm the real deal, Anna... and you've got two weeks to figure that out before I get my shot at you. Try to puff yourself up as the best student of a living legend all you want, but I'm about to remind you just how good I really am." Iris Coleman "Y'know... I made a hell of a mistake last month, figuring I could plow through whoever I wanted, wipe out anyone and figuring my spot against the champ was locked in. And I let my guard down. That's not gonna happen again, and Leona damn well learned that out there... she wants to hold it over everyone that she was the first champion, wants to taunt me by the fact that I could never beat her while she held that title... well, I beat you here and now, Leona! And I will do whatever it takes to scratch and crawl my way back up to the top for a shot at the Academy Championship... I will get that match, and no matter who's got that title when I get there, you're going down! I'm the friggin' Wrecking Ball, and I'll show you exactly what you're getting yourself into!"

~A word from Estrella Gratis~
*Translated from Spanish* Estrella looks into a camera, her ever present smile on her face. "Hello to all of my fans! I just want you to know that the mask is not a permanent addition, at least not yet. I do not think, even if I were to chose the life of a masked wrestler, that I have earned that right quite yet. One heck of a tag team match in my last bout, and my respect goes to both my partner and our opponents. That armbar was locked in and I just couldn't hold out any longer. My next match is a fatal four way, and it's one of the very few multi-women matches I've ever participated in. I'm counting on all of you to cheer me on so I can use that energy to propel myself to the victory! Much love to you all!"
