thanks for your comments Senator, I totally agree re: the main event...a long time in the making, and both guys really went for it. The match lived up to the hype and I'm stoked to see where HAGE's latest title reign will take him. So anyways, Reiko just informed me (via White Trash, who is doing an admirable job as my personal translator) that she spoke with the doctors this morning to get status updates on the 4 ZIP JAPAN wrestlers who were injured at last night's show...and the news is not great. Justin Starr - knocked out by a Perfect Driver on the floor from Hamada. Starr has two very serious injuries: A compound fracture of his left collarbone and a hairline skull fracture. The collarbone break was relatively clean and should heal up in about 8 weeks, but the skull fracture is slightly more concerning. It's at the base of his occipital bone, and doctors want to keep him in hospital for a few weeks to monitor the situation and make sure he doesn't end up with any internal bleeding to the brain. He should make a full recovery assuming no complications, but Starr is likely to be out of action completely until at least late October.
Saburo Hamada - knocked out by a Fire Star Splash from Tetsuo K. The Fire Star Splash is a spectacular move, but even an aerial master like Tetsuo can be slightly off target once in a while. The dive missed it's mark and Tetsuo rotated his knee directly into Hamada's temple causing a concussion. Doctors will continue to observe Hamada over the next couple of weeks to determine the severity of the injury, but as of now, Hamada is out indefinitely.
Jimmy Nails - knocked out by a Doogan Hammer II from Donnie Doogan. Jimmy got off relatively light here, as he had the wind completely knocked out of him, but appeared to suffer no serious injury. He has been cleared to compete again effective immediately.
Jin Matsuda - knocked out by a Yakuza Bomb from Takeshi Kiriyama. Matsuda landed very awkwardly taking this move, and completely separated his shoulder. He has some torn ligaments, and his collarbone separated and pierced his trapezius muscle. Very painful injury that will require surgery to get the collarbone back in place and repair the damaged tissues. Matsuda is undergoing surgery today, but the recovery time is approximately 12 weeks, meaning he is unlikely to appear in the ring again before late November or early December.

3 days until the Qualifying round for the Z-1 Climax!
If you have an edit in the tourney be sure to let me know if you want me to use an attire other than his default.
Also, feel free to drop some RP/Promos in this thread if you wanna add a little spice to your qualifying match.
For the record, when I was picking opponents for the qualifiers, I simmed each potential qualifying matchup 5 times. If one edit didn't win at least two matches, I swapped the opponent for someone more evenly matched. Therefore, every single edit in this tourney is absolutely capable of winning their qualifying match. Some of the test sims have been simply phenomenal, I can't wait. The only disappointing thing is that half of the guys will be eliminated right away....there's some really excellent edits here.

Roy Carter, who remarkably suffered no further damage to his injured ribs at Call To Arms, was medically cleared to travel and landed in Japan earlier this week to train at the Dragon Fire Wrestling dojo. He posted a video to WPW.com concerning his upcoming qualifying match this Friday."Two days. In two days, I get to step into the famous ZIP Japan ring. In two days, I get to wrestle in front of a Japanese crowd for the first time in my life. In two days, I have a chance to qualify for a tournament that will earn me a shot at the ZIP Japan Heavyweight Champion. In 2 days, I get to show a whole new set of people just what I do best. Punch people in the face and break arms.
Lewis Smith? Who the fuck is Lewis Smith? I’ll tell you who he is. He’s number one. He is the first. The first of a line of people I’ve never heard of, that I get to beat the crap out of. Everyone in this tournament is on notice. Sad Amador, Kenny, Stan Old, Chef Mohammad Ramsey, Rey of Meat, Todd fucking Colton, Candy Bar Crunch, Jethro Tull- EVERYONE. TWO DAYS. Then it begins. The pain begins. Face punching… and arms breaking.
See you Friday."

Tonight is the night for the Qualifying round of the Z-1 Climax!
A couple of things: I have decided to turn CRITs off for the qualifiers, but will have them back on for the actual tournament starting next week. Main reason is I want all these edits to get a fair shot at winning their qualifier, and would hate to see someone get shortchanged by an unlucky early CRITICAL
If anyone wins by countount, they will advance...but if we have a double countout both men will be eliminated and the winner of the ALTS match between ISKARIOT and PerfectShawn will take the spot.

Mohammad Ramses speaks out! Mohammad Ramses:(Translated from Arabic) <Peace be upon you all, my name is Mohammad Ramses and I arrive here from my native land of Egypt, by way of the Senatorial Office and Pan African Wrestling. For those who are not familiar, I am a man with the blood of ancient kings running through my veins. It is natural that I am a professional wrestler as a result. I desire to show my skills and gifts to the world. But I am not needlessly arrogant, and I do not carry hubris in my mentality. My opponent Mark Hodge may not share my peerless lineage, but he is a fine warrior in his own right. He is a strong representative of his own tradition. And I believe that we will delight the many people viewing our match with a demonstration of fighting prowess. May you all experience this match with the spirit of anticipation and brotherhood.>

Todd Colton "Victor frickin' Newcastle. I don't know a damn thing about this guy, let's be honest here. But if you think I'm gonna blow this chance, if you think I'm gonna go out there in front of the ZIP crowd and embarrass myself, the HELL I will! Newcastle, I don't care who the hell you happen to be. There's only two ways this ends: either I take out your arm, or I take you out with the Destroyer, because I am NOT losing this one, I am NOT going down here, because I am not only Phoenix Rising's best, I'm gonna be ZIP's best when all's said and done."

I won't be able to watch live, but here's a glimpse at Mikasa's story. Int. - German Bar - Day Bucks Barnett is not his usual dapper self, although he clearly was the night before. He switched from beer to whiskey a long time ago. He has given up, this whole trip was a waste of time. His global trotting trip to sign wrestlers to muscle his way into his rival's older bother's debuting wrestling promotion has born no fruits. Wrestling is too hot, POW next to no name recognition, his plan of luring talent under his burgeoning agency has proved more difficult than it's worth. The muffled ringtone of "C.R.E.A.M" by Wu Tang blasts over the empty bar, caller ID reads Denny. Bucks raises an eyebrow and answers Bucks (on phone) Denny! What's happening my man I haven't seen you since we tripped mushrooms in Vegas last year...What?....Japan? No I'm in Germany, some outlaw promoter I owe a favor to asked me to check out one of his guys, which is good because I am desperate. Wrestlers aren't starving for work like they used to, I mean the only reason why A1 can ever dream of opening his own business is the roster he has...What? Z1? The hell is that?.....Mikasa, that kid that called himself Japan Air in PCW before A1 bought them out?....Really?.....Alright....Alright, thanks Denny. Bucks slides the hang up button, not waiting for a response and looks both ways for bar tender. Bucks Hey buddy, um, do you get this channel called...Twitch?

Fishy Joe: Boozhoo, giigoozensag! It's good to be back in ZIP Japan! Last time I was here, I fell in a hard fought battle against the talented Tlaloc during the Super Z Cup. I know the thrill of a big tournament win, and the pain of losing in the deep waters, but my goal was to attract the best talent in the world to Fishy Joe's School of Wrestling, and I was very successful in that. One student that's come to me in that time I am particularly proud of. An All-American and 2 time NCAA champion at the University of Minnesota, this young man had a fierce reputation before ever stepping in to the squared circle. When he first came to us, the town was abuzz with bear sightings. This was no bear, but the future champion in the making, Mark Hodge. We have come to call him "Mekwa", and make no mistake, an angry Hodge is no less dangerous than any bear. There's a lot of talented men competing in the Z-1 Climax, including Mohammad Ramses, a fine competitor with a great lineage. As prestigious as his past is, he is just that, the past. But "Mekwa" is the future, and tonight you will all see just how bright and terrifying the future is. I was proud to have stepped foot in a ZIP Japan ring, that moment changed my life. But I am even more proud of what happens tonight, because when "Mekwa" steps in to that ring, ZIP Japan will never be the same.

An exhausted Mark Hodge addresses the press shortly after the match.
Mark Hodge: *heavy breathing* I fought hard tonight. Mohammad fought harder. He may be the past, but I wasn't ready for the present. Good luck throughout the tournament, brother. It was an honor to compete here tonight, thank you ZIP Japan, domo arigato Reiko-san. This isn't the end for me, only the beginning.

Well the qualifiers for the Z-1 Climax are in the books. Congratulations to all the winners...but a big thanks to everyone who contributed an edit. This was a great batch of edits, and the matches were uniformly excellent. If you missed any of the show it is currently archived here: www.twitch.tv/videos/298666674ZIP JAPAN Z-1 Climax Qualifiers Aug 17, 2018 at 9pm EST Exhibition match - ISKARIOT (MordecaiXLII) vs PerfectShawn (Level) Z-1 Climax Qualifiers - Akahata (Eisenheim) vs Roderick Brookes (kingradical) - Bad Amador (TwistC) vs Snickers CRUNCHER (Soak314) - Silver Demon (romanticmisery) vs Slammin Jam (Prof Voodoo) Superb comeback by Silver Demon in this match. - Leo Rossa (Aroo) vs Yoshihiro Mikasa (thelodger) - Tony Swinger (maikeru) vs Blayze Kindler (Zealot) - Lariat Brisco (Blehschmidt) vs Akira Soma (samuraicake) Superb fight, early contender for MOTN. - Todd Colton (FireHawk) vs Victor Newcastle (kaoticpersona) Much better than the rating indicates. - Stan Classic (Wonderland) vs Kenneth (xeroprogram) - Rey de la Carne (Officer Brightly) vs KK Ryu (TigerStripePro) Incredible clash of styles here, but it worked. My pick for MOTN. - Aquarius Jethro (magmadiver) vs Hiko Sojirou (brick9mm) Wonderful reversal sequence to finish this one. - Lewis Smith (norefunds) vs Roy Carter (lankylefty) Another killer match. - Mohammad Ramses (Senator) vs Mark Hodge (Slick_36) A very fine main event. More throws than you could shake a stick at. Very happy with how this all turned out, everything lasted at least 15 minutes and there were no stinker matches. 4 100%'s and even the few that came in under 90% were very entertaining. Thanks again to everyone who participated and/or came to the stream. The next ZIP JAPAN show will be on Friday Aug 24, and will feature the 8 first round matches of the Z-1 Climax tourney, as well as a few other ZIP matches.
EDIT: Full card up in the first post on page one! First round matches were determined by a legit random draw, best of luck to everyone!

Todd Colton "I told you. I TOLD YOU! Victor Newcastle, I'm guessing you came in expecting the guy you might've seen in months past, the guy that got knocked around, the guy that couldn't string two wins together unless it was wrestling circles around Gary friggin' Gear. You're not GETTING that! What you're getting is the single most legit wrestler that Phoenix Rising's got, the single most legit guy in this whole tournament, the man that's going to WIN IT ALL! I'm taking ZIP by storm, I'm stepping up and tearing through anyone, ANYONE that stands in front of me, and it really, really doesn't matter who..." There's a short pause as Todd gets the word as to who he's facing, and he seems to light up with a grin. "Oh, damn, that's PERFECT. Probably nobody knows this cause it happened... a while ago, but Hiko and I... well, this won't be our first shot at each other. Way back when Proving Ground was just gettin' started... well, it wasn't exactly my crowning achievement. But you know what? I'm gonna avenge that defeat, Hiko, you hear me? I'm gonna bring you down! I'll tear you down on my way to winning this tournament! I'll tell you what I'm tellin' everyone else, I'm NOT the same man you faced before, and if you come in here thinking things are gonna go the same way, you're gonna get torn to shreds just like Newcastle was!"

KK Ryu KK is sitting alone in a corner of the locker room. His head hangs low as he places a towel over his head. The last three years haven't been nice to him. The company he was suppose to lead died under his watch. His mentor and teacher is retiring soon. In some ways, he has lost everything. The Tiger Stripe Pro front office sent KK on excursion to clear his mind. They told him that he was taking everything far too seriously and that he was still important. They told him he just needed a break.
KK finds himself, after tapping out for the first time in over a year, full of confusion and shame. He put his everything into that match, but like many times before, he cannot finish. KK cannot go back to Tiger Stripe Pro or Alabama prefecture like this. Something must change. He must change.
Fun show!
