Another fun ZIP JAPAN show is in the books, thanks to everyone who came out.
I'm kinda pressed for time today, so the writeups are a little brief...
5 man elimination match
- Mad Bomber vs GORO vs Donnie Doogan vs Jin Matsuda vs Jimmy Nails
Crazy match to start things off. Jimmy Nails OKITE'd GORO's Victimizer move for a 2.9, moments before GORO was CRIT'd by a Mad Rush Powerbomb courtesy of the Mad Bomber. Nails was taken out shortly thereafter by a Doogan Hammer II, and a couple of minutes later Matsuda got CRIT'd by the DHII, leaving Doogan and Bomber as the last two. The two hosses brawled it out for a few minutes before Bomber ended things with another Mad Rush Powerbomb. Two CRITs in one match, a record for ZIP JAPAN. Insane action.
- Aya Mizuno vs Rebecca Roxx
Huge win for Rebecca Roxx here who has been tooling around in the Joshi Division for over a year without ever really earning that defining moment. She ended that emphatically tonight, after no selling a couple of big Mizuno head drops and CRIT'ing her with a jaw-crushing Stunner in the center of the ring.
- Rekless Endangerment (Johnny Rekless/Danger Daniels) vs Green Crush (Asano Kaneshiro/Takeshi Kiriyama)
Awesome match here with the junior tag team the definite underdogs who more than pulled their weight. Plenty of great spots, but check out the best one of the match here, as clipped by Bozosama
Amazing action throughout, and Rekless Endangerment pick up a very big win after Rekless hit the giant Kaneshiro with a Cyclone Suplex! Definitely an early shout for MOTN.
- Saburo Hamada vs Tora Katsu
A very good match that built up slowly, both guys escalating their way through their movesets methodically. Katsu was diving like crazy at one point and nearly had it won, before Hamada made a strong comeback. Right as it looked like momentum was swinging back to Katsu, Hamada busted out the Perfect Driver at the perfect time to secure a solid victory.
- Psycho Witch vs Hanako Yoshii
Brutal stuff from Psycho Witch. Both women seemed to be on a mission tonight to re-establish themselves after some recent losses, but Witch could not be denied as she simply shrugged off most of Yoshii's armwork and put on a scintillating display of both power and aerial ability. Witch chokeslammed Yoshii to the floor from the apron, hit a chokeslam/diving splash combo in the ring and a diving crossbody from the post to Yoshii on the arena floor, before finishing things off with a sickening Dragon Clutch. Nasty.
Archive triple threat match from 2007
- Justin Starr vs Great HAGE vs Ichiro Katagiri
A really fun match from the archives that showed off what a very young Justin Starr was capable of. Great back and forth between all 3 men in there, HAGE in particular looking especially good hitting his patented spinning powerbomb a couple of times. Starr was able to catch Katagiri with his (now famous) Anaconda vice, but HAGE caught him immediately after with a crossarm bridging suplex to capture the win.
- Touma Tanaka vs Thunder Fist
Tanaka continues to impress early in his ZIP JAPAN career, taking on and defeating former Champion Thunder Fist in decisive fashion. He may have used a couple of shortcuts (well, several nutshots) but he largely dominated proceedings and finished the match off with a sick running Yakuza kick to the back of Fist's skull. The sky is the limit for the Killer Kamikaze.
To determine #1 Contender for the ZIP JAPAN Joshi Championship
- Yumi Yamaguchi vs Eun-jin Choi
Superb match with two best friends facing off for a shot at Momoe's Joshi Title. Amazing action in this match, with Choi showing some impressive spirit to survive three Angelic Drivers, before finishing Yumi with an impressive Gory bomb -> Kneebreaker combo. As good as Rekless Endangerment vs Green Crush was, this was probably MOTN.
Triple Threat to determine #1 Contender for the ZIP JAPAN Heavyweight Championship
- Wataru Nakajima vs Maki Yoshida vs Newfie George
A lot of fun while it lasted, with all three guys going for the gusto here, looking to be the first to challenge Justin Starr. After plenty of back and forth action, Nakajima caught George unaware with a great small package rollup, but then immediately turned into a Yoshida Blue Crush. Maki Yoshida becomes #1 contender!
ZIP JAPAN Junior Heavyweight Championship match
- Tetsuo K vs Satoshi Iguchi (C)
An excellent fast paced match here for the Junior Championship, with Iguchi breaking out several big cutters in an attempt to defend his newly won title. However, Tetsuo could not be denied, and after a brutal sequence of kicks, K regained the belt with an incredible series of back to back dives. Swanton, run up twisting senton, Fire Star Splash, over. New Champion!
ZIP JAPAN Tag Team Championship match
- Pure HEEL (Kenji Sawada/Kenzo Kobayashi) vs Team Fighting Spirit (Akira Shinjo/Daisuke Shimura) (C)
Fantastic main event Tag Title match here, with Pure HEEL pulling out all their tricks against the Champions TFS. Shinjo and Shimura might have started out as a makeshift tag team, but they have proven themselves over and over again, and have been dominant champions for several months now. After a great battle, Shimura locked Kenji Sawada into his Sasori-gatame for a submission win. Can anyone defeat Team Fighting Spirit?
Thanks again to those who hung out with me last night to watch the show. Join me again in two weeks time for the next one...full card will be posted in a couple of days but the card will be capped by two big championship matches: Momoe Ito vs Eun-jin Choi for the Joshi Title and Justin Starr vs Maki Yoshida for the Heavyweight Title!
