Some of you may have noticed the recent disappearance of a respected member of our community. I am of course referring to Carlzilla.
Carlzilla had, in the aftermath of recent events, directly enabled piracy of Fire Pro World by telling where to get a pirate copy of the game in an unrelated group DM on this site. Said guidance was so that they could obtain the old 1.02 version of the game, for the purpose of continuing to use mods.
I don't remain entirely ignorant of the purpose but the fact remains that we have a zero tolerance policy on piracy here at the Critical Club. I was informed of this by one participant of said DM (there were at least a dozen people there) that will go unnamed.
When reminded of the fact that piracy is absolutely prohibited, by a staff member, Carl responded "Ban me if it's a big deal."
The purpose is irrelevant. Enabling piracy of Fire Pro Wrestling World is not allowed on this website, no matter who you are. We are the largest Fire Pro Community forum on the internet and will absolutely not tolerate or assist piracy of Fire Pro World for as long as it remains up for sale.

This is very disappointing. Credit to Carl for taking it like a man. Is this a suspension for Carl or a permanent ban? Can we be forgiving and give him another chance at some point? Seems like everyone deserves at least a chance to make one mistake.

He's moving away from the forum either way. It is what it is.

Just sad to see the community get so broken up. We are a small group as is. Carl had already justified a ban much more than anyone else we've ever banned, with his behavior ever since the delay. Of course, because of his status, we avoided giving him the axe. Directly enabling piracy was merely the last straw. And as View mentioned... he was taking off anyway.

I respect all the work that Carl has put in to FPW in the time it's been out. I consider the move lists mod, at least, to be absolutely essential, and I know a lot of other people view many of the other new features Carl made possible in the same way.
But I really, really wish he hadn't taken events this way. The community as a whole just loses out.

I hate that this is such a misunderstanding, and honestly, it's partially my fault. I was just saying that I would be cancelling the fed stuff I was working on because I couldn't downgrade game.
Carl, attempting to help me offered the following:
Just use a pirate copy.
[specifics about where a copy would be available] This has the added benefit of not needing to disable Steam every time you boot the older version of the game.
Then you can start the game using the command line (create a shortcut) -ImALandLubber to deactivate the anti-piracy check on the mod suite. It's unfortunate that it's come to this, but this update has been a tall warm glass of dumpster juice.
Upon receiving a response saying that he shouldn't mention piracy, Carl stated the following:
Ban me if it's a big deal.
There's not a lot of choice, you either pirate, or you don't mod. I'm not the side of modding dying, so I'm going to support the idea of an alternative way to get the game. Sorry, but that's the reality of the situation.
That was all to it. I really don't want people to get banned etc. Carl did mention it to me, but he didn't send me any files. He also knows I bought multiple copies of the game and he was trying to be helpful. I completely respect the stance on piracy, and I'm not advocating or justifying piracy at all, but I wanted to apologize in the open forum for my part in this, and make the private conversation public so that everyone is on the same page..with the hopes that we won't allow our community to be divided based off this one short interaction.

Carl was for the most part checked out anyway. I think the mods had taken a toll on him as for the most part he was the main contributor. I appreciate everything he did to keep things entertaining before the DLC hit even if he does not show it in his postings.
While I am sad that I won't have Booking mod or the useful health bars going forward, I'm not going to let it prevent me from playing the game or sway me into thinking the community is doomed.
One person does not make a community and the community will still be around. I for one will stay hopeful of the future developments from Spike and whatever the community will provide in the future.

Yes, I've apologized to Carl at this time and would now like to openly apologize for the misunderstanding. The person who informed me of the DM had censored it in a way that made me misunderstand things and think that Carl had directly linked to a pirate copy of the game. He did not. What he did do was more or less the same thing, but I'm still embarrassed at my misunderstanding. Furthermore... he still broke the biggest rule, and has been justifying his ban every day for the last month. The ban won't be revoked, but I'd like my misunderstanding to be known. And once again, Carl wants to leave. He's already got that sorted out. Don't beg for him to come back. You'll still be able to find him in plenty of places where he actually wants to be.

I 100% respect that. All of that. Wasn't really begging for anyone to come back, that's not even my style. While I would like everyone to get along and just be cool about it, I understand that's not realistic.

I understood a lot of Carl's anger, but lines are lines. I appreciate the transparency. There is no doubt this is an awkward time, even as perpetual outsider around the community for a number of years, however I do believe the community is stronger than ever. Take one toe dip into the e-fed forum, it's clear the roots are strong.
