Working on edits this year has been kind of slow as it was last year. I had stared compiling everything for a much larger release at the end of last year, but never got around to it - Pretty typical of me these days. Most of these were spur of the moment within a few days of each other, and some share a lot of similarities as I wound up combining different concepts for multiple edits together. As usual, I explain the names as they're a significant part of the character and not randomly generated.
Myoujou Kiyomizu:
Myoujou is a combination of Meiko Satomura and Sailor Moon - Her name is a linguistic parody of "sailor moon", with "Myoujou" meaning "bright star" and "Kiyomizu" meaning "calm water" - I interpret it as "bright sea of stars," despite it not being a true translation. I've been quite invested in henshin hero (lit. "transforming") stuff lately - Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, etc. I can't recall what made me choose Sailor Moon, but that's referenced in her 4th attire. She combines many kicks with moves that twist and twirl around her opponents. Her finisher is a Shining Axe Kick.
Hanayo Kekkonshiki:
Hanayo received a white tiger mask as a wedding gift. That's all we know about her.
"Hanayo" is "fragrant flower" and "Kekkonshiki" is the word for "wedding" in Japanese. Her finisher is a Spinning Lariat called the "Happy Wedding Bomber" after a brief scene from Magiranger where MagiGreen is launched out of MagiPink, who is shapeshifted as a cannon. She mostly exists so I could give an edit a Twerking taunt that I found on the Workshop a while ago.
Mirai Unmei:
Known as the "Brilliant Phoenix", Mirai is an expert martial artist, combining various styles of kung fu together to create a ferocious, yet unpredictable approach to wrestling.
"Mirai" means "future", and "Unmei" means "destiny". Visually, she combines elements of Street Fighter's Chun Li and the suits from Dairanger. Her move-set combines elements from Tiger Mask, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Kim Dragon (World Heroes), Liu Kang (Mortal Kombat), Kim Kaphwan (King of Fighters), Akira (Virtua Fighter), Kokoro and Jann Lee (Dead or Alive). She has a couple of moves from Yun and Yang from Street Fighter, as well. Throw in some headbutts and you've probably concocted a good idea in your mind at this point. I can't remember what I tagged her finisher as, but it's a gnarly combination of Liu Kang's Bicycle Kick, a sequence from Jackie Chan's Drunken Master, and a leaping foot stomp from the grounded position, landing squarely on the opponents face. It's quite brutal, and I love it.
She's one of my favorite new edits. She's possibly my favorite strike-based edit I've made in recent memory.
Suki Mizuyama:
A surfer/scuba instructor that uses a chair as a bodyboard.
"Suki" is taken from "jettosukii", the translation for "jetski". "Mizuyama" translates as "water mountain" - a play on "Splash Mountain."
She incorporates a ton of chair attacks that look like she's surfing with the bodyboard, and her finisher is a 360 Double Foot Stomp. She's incredibly slippery and clumsy and has a hard time taking advantage of the situation, often causing her to lose matches.
She is currently unfinished as I try to come up with ways to make her entertaining to watch, and for her to be a borderline jobber. That might prove difficult because of the nature of the CASSANDRA roster.
Kunyomi Miyamori:
Known as "Isekai-chan," Kunyomi is the stranger in a strange land. Powerless, and entirely out of place, she must learn to adjust to all the zany wackiness of NEO Tokyo.
"Kunyomi" is the pronunciation of Japanese words. "Miyamori" translates as "shrine, temple, or palace guardian." Her entire move-set is based around the original base Edit move-set. She can "power up" to finish her opponents with a gigantic, devastating Powerbomb (in which she overreacts to a comical degree, which causes her to fail to immediately go for the cover). She also uses a Spinning Shining Wizard, which takes up the otherwise unused C2C slot. I wanted to keep the move-set as similar as I could, and I think I did a pretty good job of it.
I may end up giving her a chest protector (made out of some unrealistically flimsy material). She is otherwise designed to look as generic as possible.
Layceé Troublé:
She's hot, stuck up, hot, French Canadian, hot, and will knock her opponents' heads off with a Lariat. Did I mention she's hot?
Layceé is an old edit from the time before I began building the CASSANDRA roster. I wasn't using her much, so I normalized her to fit in with them. Originally a parody of Kazuchika Okada, I decided to overhaul her appearances and give her some more heel-ish, and sexy mannerisms. Her new appearances are heavily inspired by Mariah May, who now works for AEW, but worked for STARDOM at the time I had updated her, and Tiffany Stratton, who works for WWE.
Her redesign coincides with the introduction of Mirai Unmei ("Mariah May"). Layceé uses Tiger Mask's signature "stepping" to mock her.
"Laycee" means "charming or pleasant" - "Troublé" is from "troubler" (pronounced with a French accent) - A troublemaker. Troublémaker is also the name I gave to her Rainmaker lariat.
