I just checked, and yeah, apparently you do. That's kinda weird, but I guess it makes sense, since you can use moves you haven't published and being subscribed to them makes sure (for Steam) that that's not the case

Yeah, it's incredibly frustrating as it means you end up with duplicates of your moves in your move list.
It also causes me to lose a lot of time.
So let's say I create a new move in Move Craft. If I then go immediately to edit mode to assign the new move to a wrestler, the move will appear in blue. If I then try to upload that wrestler, the wrestler will be in red. I then have to exit the game, subscribe to the move, and then go back into the game.
Not a huge deal, right? Well I have like 5000 subscriptions right now! 😭
So it takes a good 5 minutes for the game to reload all of the subscriptions before it starts again. Then I go back into edit mode, find the subscribed version of the move in green, and assign that to an edit. Only then can I successfully upload the edit to the Workshop.
It's fine that we can subscribe to our own moves but I wish the game didn't make us have to do it in order to use those moves for uploaded edits. The whole thing feels redundant and a waste of time.
P.S. Fuee makes a good point though that FPW forcing us to subscribe to our own moves ensures that we remember to upload those moves before we upload the edit as well. Otherwise, that could be a mess. I just wish we could subscribe to the move and have it download to the game while the game was on.

Does anyone else have a problem with the game getting stuck on the layer selection on edit mode? It seems to happen when the background skips and I have to alt/tab shut off the game when this happens.

Are you running the game at the highest resolution available in the settings menu?
When I first got the game, I was running it at the highest resolution. My game would crash probably 25% of the time in appearance mode. I don't quite remember if it was the layer selection, specifically, that caused the crash since it was a few years back. But I do kind of remember that many of the crashes came from actually exiting out of appearance mode back to the regular edit menu. Some crashes may have come within the appearance mode too.
Once that happened, I tried a number of different things to fix the problem.
The thing that seemed to work was just running the game at the second highest resolution.
It's very rare that I get a crash these days and it never occurs in the appearance edit mode.

It seems when the game's background "skips" or resets as it does, when I'm inside the layer selection (as in going to pick chest, thigh, head, etc.) the game will freeze but I'll still be able to move within the red bars that choose the layer. I cannot close the layer or actually select it, unplugging or connecting a different controller does nothing, the keyboard doesn't work either. The only thing I can do is Alt-Tab (Windows 10 here) which brings up the various "windows" I am using, then close the game that way. I guess I can also CTRL-ALT-DEL but I don't close the game that way when this specific issue occurs.
I'll play around inside the resolution settings and give it a shot, but this is not so much a crash but a freeze specifically inside the layer selection. Thanks for the reply Geese.

I think I have a better understanding of this issue. It's probably not an issue of your own computer like the one that I had. It sounds like more of a glitch within FPW. I kind of remember hearing about these glitches, with the background/animated wallpaper freezing, early on after FPW came out. Unfortunately, I really do not remember the solution. Are you running mods at all? Just kind of a wild shot in the dark question here. Maybe you can verify the integrity of the Steam game files within the properties menu of game in Steam? Another shot in the dark here. I really wish that I could be of more help. Troubleshooting tech issues is usually beyond me but I think people have had your issue before in the previous few years. Maybe you can check the Steam forums?

I've had that happen multiple times before.
All you can really do is save any progress and restart the game to fix it.

Me: My game is crashing semi-daily because I have 7000+ subscriptions and my computer is on its last legs.
Also me: Check the Workshop each day to see which new moves are released and download 5-10!!
🤦♂️
I wish the "delate/unsubscribe" menu was easier to use and sorted by move category. I probably don't need 10 versions of GTS when half of them are poorly animated and I don't have one edit that uses the move 😭
I've set aside like an hour every few days to delete moves but it's not making a dent.
I don't want to do a fresh re-install off a new save without my subscriptions as it would take too long to find the moves I do want for my edits. It does seem like when I delete enough moves, my game runs fine for a few days. But at this point, if I run it on anything higher than the third lowest resolution, it's guaranteed to crash.
Any advice besides "stop being stupid, stupid?"

Are the crashes random? Does the game run for a certain amount of time before crashing? Is your PC a desktop or laptop? Could something be overheating? How much resources does the game use? Are you running any other programs that may interfere? Running any automatic virus/malware scans? Does the PC crash with other programs or only Fire Pro?
Do you use the ModPack? Are Steam Cloud saves disabled? Are your Workshop subscriptions overwhelmingly moves? Have you tried caching data using the setting in the Options menu?
I suppose you could uninstall moves you're never going to use, but that's easier said than done - I know because I have dozens of moves I'll "save for later" and forget about them. Also, uninstall edits you don't use. Same goes with parts.
If you use the ModPack, it will inherently use more resources than without it. I've experienced crashes with it before, but usually it's rhe nature of the beast and things just kind of happen.

Thank you very much for your help!!! Let's Q&A this!!!! 😄
Are the crashes random? Some events seem to trigger crashes more. Uploading to the Workshop recently has had a 50% chance of crashing, especially if I'm not at the lowest resolution (and if my computer is doing anything else). Demo mode causes crashes too. When I'm editing I don't have any problems. Running 1 on 1 matches in exhibition mode are usually fine. But I've noticed that leagues sometimes crash during the interstitial/loading parts. And that is annoying. 90% of what I do these days in Fire Pro is either edit or run leagues.
Does the game run for a certain amount of time before crashing? No set amount. It doesn't go for like 30 seconds then crash. It's really tied to the above specific trigger issues or (seemingly to me) random.
Is your PC a desktop or laptop? It's a 4 1/2 year old laptop clearly showing its signs of age. It has 16gb of RAM. 78 gb of storage left out of 500+ gb hard drive. When I first got the computer *2 months after FPW came out), I couldn't run Fire Pro at the highest resolution (well before move craft or any subscriptions) without crashes during edit mode. But I was always able to run it comfortable at the second highest resolution. But in the past year and a half this has been a problem and I've noticed a ton of crashes around the time move craft came out.
Could something be overheating? Possibly. Sometimes it sounds like my computer goes into "overdrive" when running Fire Pro and I hear the fan. But even when that doesn't happen, it can crash.
How much resources does the game use? Right now I have Fire Pro running at the lowest resolution. It's currently in a com league in the background and I also have Chrome running and have my anti-virus program running a full scan. With all this, Fire Pro is averaging about 16% of my CPU usage and 24% of GPU usage. Power usage switches frequently between "high" and "moderate." Memory usage is 1430.3 mb. It does seem taxing for my computer to run Fire Pro at times at any resolution beyond the smallest one, especially with other programs running. Are you running any other programs that may interfere? I don't think other programs would interfere but I could see if running too many other programs at the same time could tax my computer and cause Fire Pro to crash. I've seen that happen before.
Running any automatic virus/malware scans? My anti-virus program performs occasional scans on its own but I haven't seen Fire Pro crash during one of these. I have seen Fire Pro crash sometimes when I manually run a scan. I tend to not run a scan when Fire Pro is loading (and loading its 7000 subscriptions) just to make sure it doesn't crash then.
Does the PC crash with other programs or only Fire Pro? My anti-virus program has been freezing recently and I've gotten some MS word glitching. As about 2 months ago, my anti-virus program also says that my registry has issues. I haven't played any games on my PC other than Fire Pro for months.
Do you use the ModPack? I'm not and never have. I wanted to but I'm concerned about doing so due to the resources and the difficulty in installing it.
Are Steam Cloud saves disabled? Yes.
Are your Workshop subscriptions overwhelmingly moves? At this point I think they may be but I'm not sure. I figure that moves take up more space than edits though, right? Is it the size of each subscription or the sheer amount of them that could cause crashes due to Carl's "memory leak" finding?
Have you tried caching data using the setting in the Options menu? I have not. What would that do?
"I suppose you could uninstall moves you're never going to use, but that's easier said than done - I know because I have dozens of moves I'll "save for later" and forget about them. Also, uninstall edits you don't use. Same goes with parts."
I don't have Parts Craft so I don't have any of them. Good idea to remove all edits I know I don't use. I've started doing that a little. I really try to remove the moves too but I have so many!! It takes forever. I try to go a little bit every day and like 1 day a week I delete like 20-30. But then I just add new ones every day!
I already had Fire Pro crash once today during demo mode but I don't know what specifically caused it.

Seems like your crash issues are a perfect storm, causing everything to happen.
You might just be running out of space on your drive, but I'm not certain that would cause your PC to act the way it has. I've got registry issues too, but my PC, for the most part, functions as it should. It's slow, because of it's age, but otherwise, yeah.
I would try not running any scans, no Chrome, or other programs while using Fire Pro to see what happens. I'm assuming you're not resting your laptop on a carpet or fabric surface, as that would cause a significant rise in overheating issues. Chrome can cause slowdown, especially with several browser extensions and tabs open all at once. Try limiting the amount of tabs you have open if you absolutely need Chrome to be running.
I'm not a computer technician so I can't really help you with those issues and since it's a laptop, you probably can't break that sucker open to check for any dust or to reseat the CPU with thermal paste. I also don't recommend trying to do that with a laptop as I don't want to be responsible for any further failures.
The amount of content you can have installed in the game correlates to the type of hardware you have. If your hardware is weaker, you can't have as much as other people. "Virtually unlimited" was a throwaway line for the developers to sell more copies of the game. Because the game is a 32-bit program, it runs into memory issues a lot quicker than other programs and games. Most programs and games these days are 64-bit. The initial release of Skyrim is 32-bit, whereas the Special Edition and, subsequently, the Anniversary Edition are 64-bit programs. The former crashes more frequently than the latter because of these memory limitations.
Caching the Workshop data would make the game load quicker in menus and spend less time loading elsewhere beyond the initial booting. I'm not sure if watching the demo reel is habitual thing, but perhaps skipping that would save on resources.
I think, and it's only a guess, that because your laptop is as old as it is and has so little space available left on it, that it's running out of data it can use. I'd check on the Steam discussion boards to see if anyone else is having the same issues.
I'm not really sure what else you could do.

For what it's worth, I asked Carl a while back about the memory leak thing and he said moves don't contribute to it, and it's to do with the way the game handles loading textures; any non-default textures can contribute to it, like parts, logos, and ring mats. iirc, how many before the issues start depends on your system, though
Some of the crashing could be due to graphics driver updates; with nvidia, even using the "clean install" option sometimes leaves residual stuff in the registry that builds up over time. I was having some crashing issues in FPW and any other game I played recently. I ended up using DDU/Display Driver Uninstaller to clean that up and so far have had no issues (it's been somewhere over 2 months now). It's a bit daunting to use, though, and iono if that's what's causing your issues anyway. The whole having to play on low res right out of the gate thing would suggest it's not, I guess maybe unless you bought the laptop used

A toaster can run Fire Pro, but you still need a decent CPU for it. Low resolution tells me it's a GPU issue or lack thereof.

Thanks a ton for the input, guys! 😄 It seems from what you guys are both saying that deleting moves won't help? Am I right about that? Should I not waste my time deleting moves or edits in the game? Or is there a chance that will help? I also thought perhaps he doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, but I don't know the specifics of the build. A toaster can run Fire Pro, but you still need a decent CPU for it. Low resolution tells me it's a GPU issue or lack thereof. I don't have a dedicated graphics card. It is a pretty standard laptop. I bought it new in Fall 2017 but it wasn't a gaming laptop. In fact, when I first bought it I wasn't even 100% sure it would run Fire Pro but luckily it did. Up until summer of 2020, it ran it stable on the second to highest resolution with very few crashes (like 2-3 maybe?). But over the past 6-9 months things have gotten dicey. I don't know if it's because I'm overloading my game with subscriptions or if it's my computer in general. I haven't loaded anything else on my computer really. My overall storage is about the same now as it was a year ago. I don't have too many programs installed. For what it's worth, I asked Carl a while back about the memory leak thing and he said moves don't contribute to it, and it's to do with the way the game handles loading textures; any non-default textures can contribute to it, like parts, logos, and ring mats. iirc, how many before the issues start depends on your system, though I probably am misremembering this but I thought Carl said at one point that the total amount of subscriptions could cause problems with the memory leak - even if it wasn't moves specifically doing it. I don't have any downloaded parts for Parts Craft. I don't have that many logos or ring mats. More importantly, I don't have that many new logos/ring mats now than I did before getting the crashes. I've probably added 3-4 new logos and mats over the past few months but I don't think they caused the crashes. I haven't downloaded any in a while from the Workshop. All my subscriptions have been like 90% moves and 10% edits. The only thing I've seen that prevents the crashes is deleting some of my moves. That could just be a coincidence though. It may be something else under the hood that is unrelated. The whole having to play on low res right out of the gate thing would suggest it's not, I guess maybe unless you bought the laptop used It was a new laptop but it wasn't a super powerful one. I bought it with an emphasis of portability over just about anything else. I knew over time that would constrain me. Weird thing is - I've played games even a year or two ago that I thought were much higher resource drains without crashing. I've run Sleeping Dogs on this without a problem. Not recently, but in the lifespan of this computer. It's just weird to me that this computer could ever run Sleeping Dogs smoothly but crash with Fire Pro a year or two later. It could just be at the end of my computer's cycle. I could try freeing up space from my drive though. I definitely have things on my computer that I could offload to external storage. I have my computer on a solid tray. Not sure what the material is but it's been the same tray I've had it on for the past few years without an issue. It's not carpet or fabric. I should probably run all my scans before loading Fire Pro. I don't think Fire Pro likes when I run a full system scan during it. I usually turn Fire Pro on shortly after turning my computer on but I can hold off on that if I'm doing a full system scan (which can take like an hour). The amount of content you can have installed in the game correlates to the type of hardware you have. If your hardware is weaker, you can't have as much as other people. "Virtually unlimited" was a throwaway line for the developers to sell more copies of the game. I'm not sure if watching the demo reel is habitual thing, but perhaps skipping that would save on resources. I'll try caching the Workshop data. It would help if that would lower the time to boot my game. It takes a solid 5+ minutes to load up 7000+ subscriptions. The demo reel just plays when I walk away from my computer while the game is loading and I get to it after it has loaded. I think, and it's only a guess, that because your laptop is as old as it is and has so little space available left on it, that it's running out of data it can use. I'd check on the Steam discussion boards to see if anyone else is having the same issues. I'm not really sure what else you could do. Yeah, short of getting a new computer, getting rid of a ton of files on my computer, or running some type of program like Fuee mentioned ( like DDU/Display Driver Uninstaller), I'm not sure what to do.
