Any Forza Horizon fans here? I like these games, so I thought I'd make this thread to try and connect with other racers here. Maybe we can race each other in Horizon 3 and the upcoming Horizon 4.
Speaking of which, who's also excited for Horizon 4? I know I am.

I got Forza Horizon 3 through a price mistake on PC and boy did that port run like ass. I upgraded my computer to 12 GB of RAM and it was still crying for more. Shame since the game was pretty fun.

I love the series. I've played every Horizon game to date (still like the Colorado one's final race, super long, through all of the terrain types, redlining the whole friggin way!), and have loved them all. I am amped for FH4, the UK setting will be bad ass. It's nice to see Microsoft has at least one worthwhile exclusive (oh yeah, and the Ori games), too bad more people aren't playing it. This is a great game for those wanting a racing game that doesn't confine you to a boring ass track doing numerous laps for 45 real minutes, just blast through a farmers field in your Bentley or Mclaren, catch huge air, drift through a fence or a campground full of picnic tales, jump over a moving train, and win the race instead.
It will be cool to see how the seasons work in FH4, and to see what kind of showcase events they have (racing the Antonov transport plane in FH2 was awesome!). I've been reading as little as possible about FH4 because I want it to be a complete surprise, I'm glad these games are still being made, they have a cool feel to them and genuinely feel like something special on the X Box.

FH4 demo is out now for those that are interested/haven't heard. I've played through the offered events and they're a lot of fun. The game is gorgeous, fast, and more of the same Horizon that we know and love. Was jammin' to Tribe Called Quest and Erik B and Rakim on the block party station, listening to "Chunes" and racing on "Daairt rrraowds". The intro to the demo looks like the demo they've been playing where each season is featured, and although the races are limited and the demo proper is only in the summer season, I think you get free run of the entire driving space (haven't run into any invisible walls keeping you out of any of the world yet.). So far this game looks amazing, I don't have any high definition equipment or fancy sound system and this thing looks and sounds amazing, so I can only imagine what it looks like on better equipment! The demo, in true Forza Horizon fashion, feels like being shot out of a cannon, you can really feel the love here, and it looks like Playground/Turn Ten are very proud of what they've done. Please check this demo out, you will not be disappointed!! :)

I downloaded the demo last night and absolutely loved it! I especially loved the stunt driver job and the sprint race which had multiple hairpin turns.

Just noticed this little add on pack. Not usually a fan of DLC, but this one might get my ducats when I get the game, 007 Car pack!
I always pick up the DB5 in Forza games at some point, hopefully they add the Toyota 2000 GT in there as well. The Esprit will be fun to try, too!

So far, FH4 is great! The UK playground is amazing, the seasons are a cool touch and can really change the experience dramatically even if it's an area you've raced in multiple times before. The Forzathon LIVE events are a pretty cool addition, just tried that out last night. It's all pretty much the same stuff as the last ones, just refined and polished (which is amazing because of the polish and refinement already in place, these people set the bar HIGH for game design and standards!). Lots more emphasis on an avatar type thingy depicting your fictional driver (kinda fun but not particularly necessary), and the wheelspins are now partially used up for clothing and taunts (keep winning various coloured ladies shoes instead of cars... :( ). That hiccup aside, the game is pretty incredible, bigger, prettier (how do they keep doing this?), more dynamic, and just all around amazing. It's sad to see what a well done Microsoft exclusive can look like and to think of just how few of them there are.
On a side note, HALO fans will appreciate one of the showcase events, complete with the HALO in it sky, and a pile of Halo vehicles flying around while you race Warthogs (with Master Chief behind the wheel!). Great stuff!

Is there damage in the games? I've never played one but I might pick one up in the future.

Is there damage in the games? I've never played one but I might pick one up in the future. Yeah, the cars show damage as you mash the shit out of them in races, under steering into walls and other cars, trading paint, plowing into barricades and whatnot, and there’s even a setting that lets damage effect car performance. The FH games are pretty cool that way, they are as forgiving as you want them to be, damage effecting performance, toggling the rewind feature on or off, increasing drivatar (AI opponents based on real world players and friends) difficulty, it’s all a very customizable experience, and can be changed easily as you wish (great if you can’t quite win that one important race just yet...). But yes, stuff falls off your cars, paint comes off, panels get crushed, glass cracks (cool if you play in cockpit view!), and damage can effect performance if you choose. The more you jack up the difficulty, the more your experience points / influence rewards post race increases. Very cool stuff, and sadly, one of the few good reasons to own an Xbox these days. There are demos for all of the FH games btw...

So, a couple of months in and FH4 is not bad. The showcases are awesome, the "side quests" are pretty good (British Racing Green missions, the racing game tribute missions, the supercar rental mission... Wow you haul ASS in that one!), the game is gorgeous, LOTS of races, tons of shit to do. The first DLC is set to drop soon, and those have been great in the last couple of games, so we'll see if the trend continues. So far, not bad!
One beef I have about the game is that it feels BARREN. FH, FH2, and FH3 have always had a pile of NPC drivers and also "drivatars", real player gamertags and people from your friends lists that appear all over the roads of the game as drivers wreaking havoc, racing each other and always available to challenge to races. They seem to be GONE in this game, and the few that are there appear as ghosts that you can activate by pressing a button. I think FH4 is a lot more online multiplayer all the time focused than previous iterations, and I suppose for some that's the way to go, but for me, it leaves the game feeling empty as you cruise from event to event, it's like watching a supercar advertisement, you know, the ones where cars are cruising around on empty roads?...
Another beef is the change in the way the weekly Fozathon challenges are done. Every week, a new event would start in FH3, if you meet certain challenges, you'd win exclusive cars, wheelspins, cash, experience points, stuff like that. The new one is focused around a certain vehicle type, which you have to purchase in game (never any DLC stuff, just stuff available in the game, so no REAL monies!) and meet certain challenges. some are a pain in the ass to meet because of the lack of NPC vehicles in the game (near miss skills, daredevil skills, shit requiring other cars to obtain...). You earn points, barely any points, and the forzathon store contains a lot of really expensive stuff. Also, a lot of the stuff you can win with wheelspins are clothing items for your driver. More focus on the amazing vehicles, and less on the drivers you barely ever see would be great! The one cool thing about the new weekly challenge is that you can end up grabbing a car you might have looked past otherwise (it's happened to me a couple of times already. :) )
Playground/Turn Ten are pretty responsive to player feedback, so maybe they'll address that issue at some point, but so far, as awesome as FH4 is, FH3, in my opinion, is the superior game. FH3 feels lived in, FH4 is pretty much empty, so hopefully that changes, it would make a world of difference to the game overall.

So, FH3 has blizzard mountain and a hot wheels add on, both were good and lots of fun to play. FH4 has Fortune island, great for drifting fans and amazing scenery (aurora borealis and lightning storms!), and now, the second dlc expansion was announced as a LEGO island. Interesting. At least with the hot wheels thing it still fit, but lego cars? I’m not sold. What an odd choice.

I believe the reason is Toyota wants a lot more money for licensing fees than Microsoft is willing to pay for Toyota.
