M. Dickie's Wrestling games. We've all played them at least once in our lives. Wacky game physics, tongue-in-cheek humour, over-the-top action and bizarre story lines. There's no other game developer like M. Dickie.
After recently getting my hands on the PC version of Wrestling Revolution, I haven't had much time to play it being at work most of the day. That was, until I discovered the mobile version.
Those long commutes back and forth to the west end are now spent tackling Wrestling Revolution's Career Mode. In the above photo, my valet just asked if I'd like to copy her ring attire (a blue dress and high heels). My Wrestler (Vader) declined; so, my valet decided to wear my ring attire instead! Have you ever seen a woman dressed up as Big Van Vader? Well, thanks to M. Dickie's 2D Wrestling Revolution ...now you have!

I wish Madusa and Harley Race swapped stables for a week so that she could have worn Vader's attire 😄
She could have totally pulled it off too, including the smoking mastodon helmet!

Finally at the third act in Chained Echoes, but I've taken a break from it to run through Tiny Metal again, now that I know the Advance Wars Reboot is coming April 21st. One of my brothers told me not to buy it as he wants to gift it to me as a late birthday present. My other brother got me Fire Emblem engage. I haven't tried it yet but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it looks to have turned out. Still have Octopath Traveller II to pick up at the end of the month and I haven't even beat the first one yet.
I'm still waiting on reviews for Wanted: Dead before I pick that up. I might wait for it to go on sale depending on what the reviews say.

Mobile Wrestling games.
Only a handful of decent ones.
The rest follow the same pattern:
- Generic game title ('Wrestling Action Fight 2022', for example) - Uses fake screenshots of other games (or just models in Blender completely unrelated to said game) at the game's download page. - Tons of broken English. - A marathon of unavoidable ads with every touch. - Character models stolen from WWE and other video game licenses.
Most of the 'games' need to be reported.
Hard to keep track of the ones I downloaded/haven't downloaded yet...
They all look the same.
So many crummy mobile wrestling games.
So many games.....
And still I review them.....
...so you don't have to.

The Dead Cells Castlevania DLC is pretty amazing. The music rearrangements, the reimagining of common enemy types, the cameos of Belmonts and other notables, the weapons, it’s all really well done, and I’ve barely scratched the surface of the content. It’s cool how they’ve managed to blend the levels (biomes) into the game proper, I hadn’t played a ton of Dead Cells prior to the DLC release, so maybe there’s a way to go straight to the new stuff, but I’m having fun just figuring out the game and letting stuff unfold as it happens. Dead Cells is great on its own, but if you’re a fan of Castlevania, you should give this a look! 🙂

About to take on the final bosses of Super Fire Pro-Wrestling III Final Bout. In typical Fire Pro fashion, defeating all of the regular opponents in World Championship mode unlocks a special bonus game called Title Match mode. Here, players must face the hidden boss characters to become the true world champions. In Final Bout, the final bosses are R.J. Phaze (Lou Thesz) and Carlos Krauzer (Karl Gotch)....and boy are they hard to beat. Besides nearly perfect stats, what makes this duo extra difficult is the fact that they can perform their finishing attacks as soon as the match begins. Want to level the playing field immediately? Just go for Thesz's Backdrop. Want to cause instant damage to an overconfident opponent? Perform Gotch's German Suplex for some serious impact. If that wasn't enough, Gotch is one of only three characters in Final Bout who can perform a critical submission ...and he has four of them at his disposal. Legend has it that HUMAN Entertainment received so many complaints from players citing the final bosses were too difficult that HUMAN released a patched version called Super Fire Pro Wrestling III Easy Type - just a few months later. Not only were the bosses' difficulty toned down and all hidden Wrestlers unlocked, but Final Bout's Edit mode was also removed from the mix. Talk about a real bonehead move at the time. If you saved up enough match points by playing fairly in Title Match mode, you can use your tag partner to distract the final bosses and go for a countout. Here my tag partner Toshiaki Kawada takes one for the team with a takedown from Karl Gotch while I get the win!

Man I miss the days of entire rosters of pre-made wrestlers and fighters. It’s awesome to see what fans around the world come up with, but downloading edits is a pain in the ass, especially with all of the parts and parts craft DLC. I’d love to recreate the Gotch Thesz match you had!
The NJPW roster is mostly meh to me, and I have zero interest in stardom, FPD had my favourite, and in my opinion, the most comprehensive roster of fire pro games, with minimal pallet swapping, so that the wrestlers looked like their real counterparts. I loved being able to just throw matches together, now I download an edit and I’m never sure if they’ll have a head or not! 🤣

FPD roster remains my favorite default wrestler in the FP series.
I found out about so many wrestlers and fighters I had never heard of before. It really introduced me to Pancrse and K1 fighters. They were so fun and their strikes were so easy to use too!
I'd place it at or near the top of any wrestling game tied with KOC 2!
Shadow Master - I always really enjoy the write-up of your experiences in these games. I think it's cool the final bosses were so challenging. It's not like they were SNK-boss cheap either. I can't believe people complained about the difficulty to the point Spike released an easier and stripped-down replacement! That's crazy! I guess "easy mode" was a bigger part of the early video game experience than I realized. It wasn't just introduced with 20 minute tutorial modes and quick time events. "Pound X to fill your health meter" worked with Fire Pro too!

"Pound X to fill your health meter" worked with Fire Pro too! Thank you both for the kind words. Bosses in the early Fire Pro games were notoriously tough. But all of them (up until Final Bout) could be tricked with a running trick: In Super Fire Pro Wrestling (1991) the final boss of World Championship League's singles division is 'the father of Puroresu' Rikidozan. A no-nonsense fighter with some stiff chops. Naturally, as soon as a player starts running, the CPU will freeze up. After bouncing off the ropes (and with the correct timing), perform a running attack with the Y or B buttons. Once the running attack connects, pick the opponent up again and go for a second one for extra damage! Road Warrior Hawk's running attack (the Flying Clothesline) is actually Hawk's finisher in this particular port; meaning you can usually get a quick win in under a minute.
The running attack trick helped me complete the first several Fire Pro's.
That was, until Super Fire Pro Wrestling III Final Bout/Easy Type, when the programmers became aware of the trick:
Hansen bounces off the ropes - only to be dodged by Gotch. Ever the innovator, I discovered another running trick to improvise. Throw the opponent out of the ring and wait for them to re-enter. As the opponent rolls back in, hit them with a running attack. So, there you have it, Fire Pro fans. If at first you don't succeed, develop an even cheaper way to accomplish your goals in life.

Am I just missing it in the new games, because Hansen and others seem to have facial expressions in the old games! They look like the expressions on the Exciting Hour or old Renegade characters. So cool!

So cool! Yeah, I love those facial expressions!! I don't remember them in any of the more recent games. They have just the right amount of cartoony effect which is perfect for Hansen there! I see the Renegade/Kunio influence there too! Thank you both for the kind words. Bosses in the early Fire Pro games were notoriously tough. But all of them (up until Final Bout) could be tricked with a running trick: Naturally, as soon as a player starts running, the CPU will freeze up. After bouncing off the ropes (and with the correct timing), perform a running attack with the Y or B buttons. It's interesting because that is a defensive strategy that CPU wrestlers will sometimes use in FPW. I often design priorities to use running moves after knock-downs (like after a combo clincher). One third of the time, the defending edit will get up and walk out of the way of the attacker path. The other third they'll attempt to counter the move. The other third they'll just be a deer in headlights. That was, until Super Fire Pro Wrestling III Final Bout/Easy Type, when the programmers became aware of the trick: Ironically then, Easy Mode made the game harder in this key way!! Nice work, Human 😁 So, there you have it, Fire Pro fans. If at first you don't succeed, develop an even cheaper way to accomplish your goals in life. Words to live by 😄

After years of playing Gekitou Burning Pro-Wrestling, I finally figured out how to exit the ring and grab a chair!: Approach the ring ropes, then press the direction facing the ropes + Y AND R to stand on the apron. In the above case, it's Left + Y + R. Then press Left + Y + R to climb down from the apron. You will now be outside the ring. Walk over to the left or right barricades and press Left or Right + B. Your character will now be holding a chair. Press B to hit the opponent! Playing Gekitou's World Championship mode, I found the easiest way to beat an opponent is to cause a countout. So, I think I'll attempt to beat the game with all 117 characters and post their respective endings.

Thanks to the power of the internet, I came across a really helpful individual, who assisted me in hacking the endings in Gekitou Burning Pro-Wrestling. Instead of facing the same 116 opponents with all 117 characters, a kind hacker helped me discover a player modifier code to switch out a Wrestler at the final match of World Championship mode. I've since recorded about 40 of the 117 Wrestler endings. Once they are all recorded, I'll upload them all to Youtube. A feat never done before.

Finally started Salt and Sanctuary after having it sitting on my PS4 for years. It is exactly what people described it as. A Soulsborne game crossed with a Metroidvania. Not bad at all, but does possess that knuckle biting difficulty. I am happy to say I've taken down a number of bosses already with only a few tries on each of them. I still have the sequel to get to as well, although I really gotta get some of those PS5 exclusives I've bought over the last couple years off the backlog and may put it on the backburner.

" Dance of Cards" on Steam. My favorite non-FPW game of the year so far 🏆 It's a short but memorable RPG where the main battles are in the form of no-limit hold'em poker. The catch is that each character has special techniques that influence the game. For example, the main character can swap one of his cards with someone else's card. There are a few other card games too and some miscellaneous games like a modified rock, paper, scissors. The story is also pretty intense.
