I thought it was Berenstein when I was a kid, and it wasn't until I worked in a bookstore in my mid-20s that I saw it as Berenstain. I just chalked it up to not paying close enough attention as a kid.

Just the Damian sprite there is enough nightmare fuel as it is. His face in game kinda looked like a minecraft creeper. A few of these did have preset appearances in the games that could be used as a reference, but a lot of them, especially in Special, don't have the most accurate attires due to the restrictions. Eg. That weird Boss Man one.

This is phenomenal Phil! Massive kudos to you for picking up the guidebooks & uploading the scans
I actually find it way too fascinating than it sould be looking at official Fire Pro edits from the early 90's
One of the SNES Fire Pro games, might be Premium X, has a default costume for Bossman, police outfit & all
On a side note, far from a nitpick because the Almanac is awesome, but The Sandman's not on there, he was in FPA2 & there's an official edit for Returns

Question: How many of these are there in each book? Also, I just realized that the edits for Special are going to be harder to make, because their format is harder to figure out. I'll still get it done though. Two more different wrestlers you wouldn't be able to get on opposing pages. On your left, Don Leo Jonathan. On your right, Choden Senshi Battranger Z. Whom you MIGHT know better as Osaka Pro's Policeman. A great no-nonsense classic and a Japanese indy sleaze journeyman. What a team! That does not look like Don Leo Jonathan on the left at all. Are you sure about who he's supposed to be? This is phenomenal Phil! Bossman was in Special.

As in "Firepro name" (which looks like "D L Johnson") and then his ACTUAL name in the subtitle. (Way to break character, guidebook!)

Benny Urquidez. Legendary kickboxer. Was on a New Japan card once doing an exhibition. Interesting one to include. Cool! Benny "The Jet" Urquidez. I will never forget his fight scene against Jackie Chan in "Wheels on Meals"!

He wasn't. He was an extra template in the edit mode.

I think Bossman appeared in a couple of games as a model, not as many as Yokozuna though.
I'm loving these scans. I can get quite obsessive with anthology saves, I'm slowly rebuilding mine after losing it the other week. It seems perfect timing for such a crappy thing because Phil and Maikeru have given me so much canon for the new Fire Pro-verse save I'm making. Shockingly a lot of it is on Fire Pro Net for PS4, not missing anyone between 1989 and 1994!

I'm amazed that there's more for Special than for X Premium lol.
Speaking of which, does anyone know how many save slots there are in Special? X Premium for sure has enough to include every edit formula in the book in 1 save, but I'm doubtful that Special will have that many. I can always make multiple save files for Special though, maybe grouped by theme or something.

Those pictures are amazing, thanks for sharing. I've been curious about the guides for a long time, I may have to pick some up. Do any others have edits that are not documented?

Special only has 16 slots, provided you completely sacrifice any league/tournament data. If you want to have an open league on cart, it actually shares battery backup space with the edits, with larger leagues reducing edit count to 8, or zero. There's totally no way you can have every edit from the guidebook in-game. Anyway, I dunno how much later the edit guides came out vs. the original game releases, but Special is generally more popular than X in Japan. X was a late Super Famicom release, and in a couple of ways - primarily in terms of roster - it was considered a bit of a downgrade to Special. The Premium re-release a few months later fixed most of those issues tho.

There's totally no way you can have every edit from the guidebook in-game. That's really weird. If I make 4 or 5 save files then I should be able to have every edit. I could even do a separate save file for each federation/group.
