I was almost worried that I'd have to do another quick-and-dirty Valkyrie Pro card, but we don't have to go down that road... not this time. Once more unto the breach... to Proving Ground, finally, finally kicking off 2023 for Phoenix Rising proper tomorrow night. Proving Ground Episode 109 Rin Ryusaki vs. Robin Nox
Stardust Roulette vs. Adrenaline Rush
Arthur Wright vs. Colt Whitfield
White Hot (Keiko Maeda, Rei Hasegawa and Yuki Okamura) vs. The Yoshida Twins and Asha Nelson
La Corsaria vs. Reina del Tigre
Aria Kintelas and Christina Wagner vs. The Excellent Blades
Axel Halldorson vs. Ziggy Rockefeller
Fresh Suzuki vs. Calista Vargas
Wild and Wilde Inc. vs. La Familia
SATOMI vs. HAYATO The free agent of free agents, Robin Nox has seemingly decided not to settle for a single show and may very well appear on any Phoenix Rising-affiliated show going forward... probably not literally every week, though, that would be a bit wild. Still, she's here on Proving Ground and taking on one-half of Winter Fresh, looking to kick off her official career with a bang against Rin Ryusaki. Adrenaline Rush are back on the hunt as we get back to the grind, and standing in their way is a debuting duo: the Stardust Roulette, consisting of Sarah Silvers and Samantha Steele. These two have definitely made a name for themselves in the Blackwood Academy, and Silvers in particular was red-hot in her appearance during the Sakura Pro Junior Heavyweight Summit... could this be a breakout moment for the Roulette in their Proving Ground debut? Colt Whitfield is a damn menace. One-third of the reigning Phoenix Rising Trios Champions, he's potentially put Sophia Moretti on the shelf for good, and now could be after even more glory as a solo artist. But he's got to take on Arthur Wright, and that's far from a sure thing when it comes to Proving Ground matchups. The Trios Championships, speaking of which, are set to be defended on Proving Ground next (the Midwest Initiative having made a full loop now), and that match will happen at Episode 110. Who they'll face will depend on this match: White Hot have their eyes on those belts, and to that end they've brought in long-time collaborator Yuki Okamura (who will remain in the Academy, but can make appearances with the duo in trios action here). Standing in their way is a familiar foe: the Yoshida Twins, who have somehow managed to rope debuting star Asha Nelson into the mix. Can this makeshift trio stand up to White Hot? Further wild action set between the pirate and the tiger... La Corsaria and Reina del Tigre have little history with each other, but one can be certain that this match is going to be a wild one. A clash of pure, raw power... that's what's in store here, as Aria and Christina face off against the ultimate Proving Ground stalwarts in the Excellent Blades. The Blades know what it's like to be at the top, and they want to be back there, sooner rather than later... Axel Halldorson has been a beast and a half since his debut on Proving Ground, but one name that's vexed him to this point has been Ziggy Rockefeller. The brash showman has looked tremendous in his recent showings, but will this three-month layoff have dimmed his spark? Closing out the show, the champions all step into the ring, all in a row... starting with new Inspire Champion, Calista Vargas. She's got a tall, tall order here... even if her opponent isn't particularly large in stature, Fresh Suzuki's shadow looms large over the Inspire division, as she's been one of the top competitors on all of Proving Ground for years now. La Familia, Rey and Chico, always the stars of the show whenever and wherever they appear... the current reigning Proving Ground Tag Team Champions, and a very, very tough match for anyone. Wild and Wilde Inc. haven't gained quite the accolades that their opponents have, but Heather Wild and Josie Wilde have looked stronger than ever in their recent appearances... And to close out the night... the main event... some words, from SATOMI. SATOMI<Arrogance is a dangerous thing. It can be your worst enemy if you're not careful. One's ego can easily blind them to the dangers of what they're facing... blind them to the danger right in front of them.
HAYATO is a man who I believe has been blinded by his own arrogance, and thus cannot see the target painted across his back... nor the danger staring him in the eye. I see no need for us to continue as partners... brother and sister we may be, but you are a man who has decided his own personal glory is more important than that of the Tachibana family name.
So I will teach you humility, brother. I will remind you of your place. You stand at the pinnacle of Proving Ground, an impressive feat, impossible to deny... but you have not reached my heights yet. And if you continue down this path of arrogance and ego-stroking, you never will.> In retort, HAYATO fired right back.... HAYATO<I know what this is. What burns you up inside, sister. What makes you so frustrated at my 'arrogance'... it's jealousy, through and through. You may have reached this level before I did, but I have done it better than you ever did. I'll prove as much when I beat you, and continue to wipe out any and all challengers that stand in my way.
You never did see my accomplishments as worthy. Maybe once I've crushed you, you'll finally realize that you're not the most important name around here anymore. I am.>

April 1 is something of a tradition when it comes to Phoenix Rising. But we just did a Valkyrie Pro stream not that long ago. So what's a showrunner to do, instead of the usual old standby? Why, run a big one-night tournament, of course. It just so happens I have sixteen European countries represented among my edits, and we've gotten ourselves a bracket. challonge.com/marf3tkqTonight, 7PM Pacific, the Phoenix Rising Euro Cup. The winner will be crowned the inaugural European Champion (name subject to change, but oh yes, this is going to expand into its own little occasional side-fed project that's probably going to be even more erratic and intermittent than Valkyrie Pro is. Oh well.) Countries represented tonight: The Netherlands (Hugo Dirksen) Norway (Axel Halldorson) Sweden (Helena Lundgren) Greece (Alexandria Kirison) England (Anari Lynn Heyward) Estonia (Marina Olesk) Spain (Altarya) Ireland (Brianna Tierney) Belgium (Olivia Van Acker) France (Celine Chevalier) Russia (Sanya Markov) Germany (Angela Rothenberg) Italy (Sophia Moretti) Monaco (Angel Leblanc) Scotland (Leona Sterling) Wales (Rhiannon Banes) Yeah, yeah, a little much on the UK rep, but you work with what you have, you know?

Back at it again tomorrow with a show that will be much easier to run (both easier on my laptop and on my brain)... but no less of a major showing, as well. Showdown is back. But before we dive into the card, there's some statements from a couple of people... namely, the top two names in Pure Gold. Kojiro Burai“Don’t think I haven’t noticed. Time and time again, from the moment I began to take the spotlight away from you. Because I know how you think. Do you think I would just sit back and let you get away with it all? Does a leader truly act like you have, letting jealousy and envy cloud his judgment? You, Kanjirin, have done nothing but try to undermine the one man who’s seen more success over the past year than you have had your entire career. The incident at Sakura Pro only cemented it.
You’ve had the power to take Pure Gold to new heights. To make us the most dangerous force not just in Phoenix Rising, but in Sakura Pro, the Office, and anywhere else we travel. We could destroy everything in our path, but for one flaw: your lacking leadership.
That is why I challenge you on Showdown, Kanjirin. That is why I intend to put you down and assert myself as the leader Pure Gold requires. That is why I will force you to see the truth: that as long as you cling to your petty jealousy because you couldn’t do half of what I have… then Pure Gold will never be more than what it’s been for years. A shell. A broken husk trying to reclaim the glory days when you were the most dominant tag team champions in the world.
I am not only the future of Phoenix Rising, but of the entire Continuum. I am the brightest star, the man to beat… and you simply don’t have what it takes to beat me. Not you, or anyone else in Pure Gold.
But don’t you worry… I will lead us into a new age. A new era. In the end: you’ll see that I was right. And you will thank me for it.” Kanjirin Tonorian“So here’s what it all comes down to, huh? The hotshot, the upstart, the meteoric rise of a young, hot new talent… and now, he thinks he’s got what it takes to take leadership out of my hands. Leadership of the group that I built, from the ground up. Do you want to know why I’ve stayed as the leader of Pure Gold all this time? Because I don’t tolerate any sort of dissent in my ranks. Victor and Kellaron learned it first. Old-timer Shiana Sentarl figured it out when we decided Vindication needed to become a thing of the past.
And now, there’s you. Fact is, kid, you don’t have what it takes to be a leader. You really want to take what’s mine? What I have created, what Mallory and I have fought, and bled, and crushed so many to build?
What I’m showing towards you, Kojiro, isn’t jealousy. I call it being pragmatic… because you’ve developed one hell of an ego, kid, and I’m not here to share the fucking spotlight with someone that wouldn’t even be here if I hadn’t brought you in. The ‘Final Piece’. That was your entire purpose. The completion of Pure Gold as a unit, the last piece of the puzzle that would take us to the top.
But instead, what have you accomplished? Everything, all for yourself. You never had any interest in being a team player… so I’ll crush you, Kojiro, and then, you’ll be set adrift, like the rest of the fucking losers that didn’t belong in Pure Gold.” Showdown Episode 109 Priya Mallaya vs. Besos
Titania vs. Damian Shepherd
Kaelara Sentarl and Silver Hawk vs. Vindication (Sayuri Date and Shinobu Yamamoto)
Shiana Sentarl vs. Winifred Wright
Telan Kintelas vs. Kyle Anderson
Rilantha De Nav vs. Kileas Kintelas
The Dynawasps vs. The SFG (Laenara Kintelas and Urani Whitemist)
Kojiro Burai vs. Kanjirin Tonorian
Firehawk Sentarl vs. The Black Dragon
La Relampaga vs. Jessika Boom for the Pacific Northwest Championship Opening the card, the match so awesome, we can't help but go back to it. Priya Mallaya and Besos have squared off before, but... well, sometimes you just can't help but return to a matchup you know is going to deliver. Raw, unrestrained power: Damian Shepherd had a bit of a rough patch this last week, coming up short in two battle royals (one of them off-screen to represent England), but he's looking to get himself back on track as he takes on Titania of the Kintelas Family. Still, with Damian perhaps in a bit of a slump, Titania could easily score a shocking win here if she shows up at her best. While the tag titles are set to be defended next Showdown (with Mercedes Ortega and Kroll taking the challenge after winning the Lottery Tag Tournament), there's always room for another contender right behind them. Kaelara Sentarl seems intent on making her sister defend those titles in another family affair (perhaps anticipating Eri and Chichi will fend off Mercedes and Kroll)... but, at the same time, Vindication has their eyes on gold this year, after getting a taste of it in Sakura Pro. Sayuri and Shinobu are set to make a statement right here against their younger opponents. Speaking of Vindication, their leader will step into the ring against an old, familiar rival. The Kintelas Family may very well wind up beset on all sides... while they seek gold for themselves, there are no less than four different units in Phoenix Rising who would like to see them fail in that endeavor. Winifred Wright and Shiana Sentarl have a long, long history with each other... which veteran will come out on top? More pure, raw power, this time between the raging bull of the Kintelas Family, and the Baltimore Savage representing Pure Gold. Telan Kintelas and Kyle Anderson are two men cut from the same cloth... but Kyle's technique and finesse may be what he needs to get the edge in this matchup, not to mention his size advantage. The legendary veteran finally returns to proper active competition: after a year where Rilantha De Nav was seldom seen in the ring, she's looking to bounce back in a big way. She's insisted on a match with the patriarch of the Kintelas Family... Ril and Kileas have plenty of history with each other, and this opened Firehawk Sentarl to a different match... The Dynawasps reunite for more tag action, as Blake Dynamite teams up with the World Champion, Mascara Avispa, once more. Could it be that the champ isn't fully content resting on his laurels at the top? Could the Dynawasps be considering a run at the tag titles as well? Standing in their way, however, is perhaps one of the most frightening duos in all of Phoenix Rising... the SFG, this time around consisting of the Dragonslayer and the Titan. Laenara and Urani have never backed down from a challenge... not even that of one of the most high-octane tag teams in Phoenix Rising's history. Pure Gold may be in the throes of a civil war. Kojiro Burai has taken offense to the way Kanjirin Tonorian has acted as of late: the final straw, perhaps, being Kanjirin standing by without even attempting to stop a Pure Gold defeat in Sakura Pro. Now, Kojiro seeks to defeat the leader and seize that position for himself... and he just might be able to do it. What needs to be said about this match? Some may forget the fact that Firehawk and the Dragon are brother and sister, but they don't forget themselves easily... and, simply put, for the big return show, we needed a Big Return Match. Who better than the two most resilient and enduring names of Phoenix Rising? The only question is: will it be the Phoenix or the Dragon that stands tall when the dust settles? Finally, closing out the show, the Pacific Northwest Championship is on the line... a huge matchup that's sure to deliver one of the most spectacular defenses in the title's history. La Relampaga has her eyes on her first singles title here, but Jessika Boom is fresh off of a tremendous win over Ruthless Nicole Alger, a match that was not an easy one for the young firecracker. Can Jessika do what so few have done lately, and defend her title against such an evenly matched foe?

There was no way you were seizing control of what I built. So now, instead of acting like you're going to take charge, consider yourself finished with Pure Gold. I'm doing you a favor, kid... because the alternative, right now, would be me ending your fucking career. Far as I'm concerned, though, I'm washing my hands of this... you're done, we're done."

Is the competition around here really so shit that I'm the only one that can hold on to this title? Am I really that much better than every single one of you losers? Far as I'm concerned, that makes this place an embarrassment, that none of you really have the guts to stand up to me. Two defenses, TWO, of this belt in its lifetime to date and they're both MINE! So here's the deal: I'm gonna give you pack of assholes two more shots. Two. You send me your next challenger. I beat them, you send me one more. And if both of them fall short, if both of them stink up the joint like the last few idiots you've put in my way?
Then I don't see the need of holding it. The boys up north in Phoenix Rising got their little rule about the Pacific Northwest Championship: five defenses and you cash in for a shot at the big boy title. Well, we don't run as often as those dorks, so here's your deal, Lance... Four defenses, and I get the same. A shot at the Spirit of Texas. The belt that SHOULD be mine to begin with.
Then we'll see just how good Johnny Rocket really is, when he's in the ring with the greatest technician on the face of the Earth. We'll see how unstoppable he is.
