The first round of the Universal Circuit Title Tournament finally concludes! Wang Gom-Bu vs. Tsaoring ChouI was able to get a lot of work done on Tsaoring Chou and am really happy with the results! I got a lot of fun sims with Wang and with others but I liked this match the best. I marked the hell out with Wang Gom-Bu losing his patience after Chou does "The Worm" and then finishing the match immediately after π I also liked the chop battle throughout the match with Wang showing that his chop hits the hardest. Cool momentum switches throughout the match as well. Chou didn't pull off the 8th seed upset but he definitely impressed me and showed that he deserved to be in this tournament. Also got a cool "out take" in the process from a match that I didn't end up using:

Glad to see you back fedding, Geese. And I always enjoy reading deeper thoughts about people's characters, with the Thunder Strike discussion.

Thanks Senator! π It really feels good to be back writing, editing, and capping again. I just have to do a better job of pacing myself this time and avoid burnout. I got a little too into it in June-July and started letting the perceived checklist of my "workload" control my time with the game rather than what I actually wanted to do. It's good to have a plan with this stuff but it can't be the driving force if I'm not feeling it one night and want to just casually sim for pure fun or work on an unrelated edit.
Also glad that you liked the Thunder Strike discussion! He's been one of my favorite characters since he debuted in 2007-8 and has been one of my most active ones too. Even when I take a break from running things, I always know what he is doing in the e-world. Same with Geese. Both of them are probably my most independent characters in that respect. I can pick up their stories in writing at any time because they are already present in my head. Thunder being the new Chief of UBL Security and Geese returning is a potentially volatile situation in it's own right due to the huge feud (and alliance) that they once had.

Round 2 of the UCTT concludes with Wang Gom-Bu facing Kurt Sanders ogubl.proboards.com/post/2721The last minute of this match is beautiful π Damn it, Kurt. Why do you make me cheer for your heel antics so much!! The rocker dropper on the chair and then the low blow for the pin. He trolls me by being my most consistently entertaining edit!
Kazuo: "Poor Wang...and uh, his wang."
So the finale match of the Universal Circuit Title Tournament is now set. The build-up to "Lunar Eclipse of the Heart" is completed. I don't really know what level of write-up I am going to prepare for that show. I have over a month to write it but I'm once again in a situation where I don't know how to continue UBL given the time I expect to spend elsewhere. The "big plan" I had for 2019 is probably way too ambitious for me for me going forward so I can either choose not to do it (and put it off for like the third time over the past five years) or I can do it at a very minimal (and spaced out) way which may actually work. I'll have to come to some conclusion in the next few weeks. All the matches are actually capped though so at least I have that going for me.

Someone finally responds to Geese after his promo from months ago! Not surprisingly, it is the man whose Championship Geese is after. Matt Rivers, the UBL NEXUS Champion, discusses "poisoning the well." "Lunar Eclipse of the Heart" - the OG-FPD 15 Year Anniversary Show - is still scheduled for 12/13. I am hoping I can keep that the actual date of release but I am not confident. At the very least, the show will be given that date and posted at a later time in December around New Years. In the next week I'm going to try to get one final "promo round-up" posted for the rest of the wrestlers booked for that show.

Cool build up to the Geese/Rivers showdown. Hyped to see this match. I know you've struggled with where to go with the fed given time restrictions. My humble suggestion for whatever its worth- I would love to see you simplify and concentrate on one match "showcases." Instead of being burdened with full events involving multiple storylines and perfecting multiple matches, you can build up to a specific match and promo and build around just that. Seems to be roughly what you're doing anyways, might just relieve the pressure of not producing the rest of whats in your head.
Regardless I always enjoy the carefully laid out promo work, and the sly back and forth that's presented. Will be stolked to see the next match whenever it comes...

Just an update: I definitely won't have "Lunar Eclipse of the Heart" ready by 12/13 but I plan to post something small on that date to commemorate the OG-FPD 15th Anniversary. When "Lunar" is finally ready to be posted (in what looks to be early-mid January), it will be retroactively written as if it happened on 12/13. Lanky: Thank you SO much for your feedback! π I'm very glad you enjoyed Matt's RP. These type of thematic RP's are more Geese's speed and this is probably the most Matt has ever attempted one like this. I think it went well and it may be my favorite Matt RP ever actually. Geese's "Threshold" RP is already one of my favorite RP's I've ever written for him in the past 15 years because it reflects ideas I've been thinking about a lot recently and I somehow managed to shoehorn them into his current return storyline, LOL. Matt is usually a lot more straight forward with his promos, more traditional professional wrestling. So this was departure for him but I think it worked, especially given who he is going up against. Geese always says that you can't beat a man with a philosophy without one of your own and it's clear that Matt has one going into this match.
Funny thing is that I had the Matt/Geese video ready for months but now I don't think it's what I want. Matt's RP got me thinking in some new directions (that are more interesting to me and more manageable) and I think I want a new match that reflects that and better leads to the new storytelling possibilities. As for your show advice: Thank you! I love this idea for a few reasons. It helps to relieve the burden of working on so many stories and my own expectations. And it reminds me a little of what I intended for UBL when I brought it back in 2012 after ending it in 2011. When I ended it in 2011, I never ended the story itself - I just ended my role in telling it. My intention was that it would be seen as still operating (and under new ownership in storylines). In 2012 I took up the mantle again but didn't intend on doing it full time. My goal was to pick up the storytelling every now and then with the idea being that time actually passed in between my treatment of it. By highlighting the main event scene, I'm not eliminating other stories, just not focusing directly on them. I'm still going to have some peripheral stories and other two titles covered but with limited presentation. There are a few stories I very much want to tell but I think the answer here is cutting down the overall amount of stories and using asymmetric focus among them. The main event NEXUS Title story SHOULD get the most coverage. I can still run stories for a few of the other things going on in the fed (particularly those that involve the other two Titles or build to future main event happenings) but I don't have to give them the same focus and time. For example, I don't need full promos by wrestlers not in the highlighted matches but can still get across what they are doing. This upcoming show will probably be the last one that has full commentary in a while. I also don't need videos for every match and probably will cut back significantly on videos after the upcoming show. I see myself using a combination of text and animated gifs to present the matches.

"Lunar Eclipse" is still far from ready but I wanted to post something tonight. The OG-FPD website was created 15 years ago on December 13th, 2003. That marked the beginning of the OG-FPD feds which evolved into OG-Joshi and UBL. There's only a handful of characters who I can base just one promo around and feel that it's an appropriate celebration of the actual OG-FPD anniversary. These two are definitely front and center on that list. Two of the most important characters in OG-FPD history wish it and UBL a "Happy Lunarversary!" π

UBL presents the 15 Year Anniversary show of OG-FPD. "Lunar Eclipse of the Heart"Although this show is being posted tonight, it originally took place on 12/13/2018. The card: - Universal Circuit Tournament Finals: Tetsu Gushiken vs. Kurt Sanders - Universal Battalion Tournament Finals: El Exilio (Fantasma PΓ‘lido/Yoshirozuna) vs. Destiny (Jack/Jeff Monroe) - UBL NEXUS Championship: Geese Walker vs. Matt Rivers (c) This is the last long show I'll be running for a while. I had considered doing a shorter version but wanted to give this event my all (given the milestone and the storylines) before switching to a format easier to produce. This show is very angle heavy with a lot of animated GIF visuals so if you aren't into watching more FPW videos right now, feel free to just skip to the spoiler tags and check out the stories going into the next year...especially after the main event.

That was awesome. I have to ask, how long does it take to get those CRITICALs to happen, with those specific setups? That looks like a tremendously difficult thing to work with. And the whole handshake setup was great, too, with the red light and the lariat.

I smell a grudge tag match down the line...
Brutal beat down after that tag match. I really liked how you used the gifs to show that off.
The main event lived up to the hype. Geese dominating early, Rivers not giving up and pushing a comeback, then trading submissions into the time limit.
And then that post match angle..... woah....

Thanks so much for the feedback, guys!! π Senator: I have to ask, how long does it take to get those CRITICALs to happen, with those specific setups? That looks like a tremendously difficult thing to work with. And the whole handshake setup was great, too, with the red light and the lariat. The first thing I did for this show after getting the match videos was get the pics and animated gifs for the handshake/rainmaker lariat set-up. I'm not so great with special effects stuff but that red light lariat (sounds like a seedy downtown district, LOL) really turned out nicely. The whole "handshake" angle was really satisfying for me playing off Matt's promo. Also, that suplex move he did for the neck limb break (after the rainmaker lariat) was like an "evolution" of Matt's usual windmill hold finisher. As for production: I got REALLY lucky for the majority of the CRITICALS! and limb breaks in the gifs. It didn't take that many tries to get CRITICALS! I was using the edits as 1P, of course. And since I don't do that too often, I was pretty patient with the process. I actually found all the angle pics and animated gifs pretty easy to produce. I turned CRITICALS! on high and also made specialty edits for each situation where the guy I was controlling had all 10's in offense and the opponent had all 1's. The stat change helped for the limb break part. Honestly, the most frustrating part of producing the show was GIPHY not accepting my animated gif uploads normally. I'd upload, get an error message, and then see the gifs on the site like an hour later. It kept happening that I just got used to that method but it was far from the peak of efficiency, LOL. The second hardest part was when I had Matt holding Geese from behind as Ruby came down to ringside. That was a "time entry battle royale" where Ruby and Geese were CPU and I was Matt. The CPU edits did NOT want to cooperate on that one for some reason. I kept messing up the timing too in advance of Ruby's timed entrance. But it wasn't too bad. The next scene, where Ruby hit the CRITICAL! Cutter on Geese was actually done in an entirely different match: a 2 on 1 handicap match. That way I was able to control when Ruby would try the cutter and I made sure Geese was beat up enough in case I couldn't get the CRITICAL! but got a limb break instead. I actually did get the limb break first but then a few seconds later got the CRITICAL! and used that GIF instead. The way I see the majority of shows going forward will be a combination of very quick text summaries combined with animated gifs for the finish of each match. They all won't be CRITICALS! of course! but I really liked the animated gifs to do some spots the game can't do - like when Palido did that springboard cutter on Jack after irish whipping him. That's the kind of stuff I used to do 1P in FPD in the old days and I think it can bring some color to the presentation of matches. I'm only going to do standard sim videos in certain situations. LankyLefty: Loved the Tetsu/Kurt match. Good flow, and I was sure Sanders was going to end it with that late armbar. Thought the post match stuff was especially cool. I smell a grudge tag match down the line... I already have a RYOMA/Jasper singles match simmed from a few months ago, LOL. And you are right, that grudge tag match is exactly where it's going, but with a little twist to it. Kurt has Tetsu's belt and that will give him all sorts of leverage. I got a ton of sims for this match. The one I used was my favorite because it felt like both guys really wanted that Title. Some of the other matches I got were a little bloated. I don't mind when it's Kurt who is "playing with his food" and trolls rather than tries to win but I hated when Tetsu was just biding his time. I really loved the finish here with Tetsu fighting off that armbar and almost immediately hitting his finish. Plus, for those who remember the final days of FPR - I was OBSESSED with getting that Apron flying knee to properly sequence into a pin. For some reason, the opponent would always get up after it!! I spent months trying to find ways to even give Tetsu a chance at that move pinning. I just couldn't pass up him winning his first Title with his finisher - a move that he can finally reliably pin with in FPW. Also like that Kurt actually hit his finisher (the running knee to the throat) but it was a little too early in the match. He still got it in there though as well as 2 other specials. So it was a close match but Tetsu really just wanted it more. Brutal beat down after that tag match. I really liked how you used the gifs to show that off. Thanks! I had a lot of fun setting up that beatdown. At one point I actually managed to get Jeff directly on top of Jack but somehow I kinda botched it and rolled Jeff over and couldn't get him back on Jack. My original plan was to have Yoshirozuna do his rare special (the corner banzai drop) on BOTH men - the visual of Jeff on top of Jack taking the banzai drop. But the truth is that the banzai drop animation just wasn't all that impressive and so I went with the flying senton instead because the impact came across better in the animated gif. Plus he gets more air. Out of all the moves done in the show, Yoshirozuna's front grapple finisher is actually the one that has caused the most CRITICALS! in regular sims. If anything, I probably had to work harder in 1P to get them then the CPU tends to get them, LOL. I'm really glad that you liked the GIF representation there. In the old days I probably would have done one videos that showed it all off but I've had problems finding a good video editing program where I can do that. So I tend to just upload the matches as they are. I'm enjoying the more agile approach that GIFS give me, despite the recent GIPHY issues. Sometimes just regular pics help tell the story too. I'll definitely be using more GIFS and featuring them prominently in future shows, way more than videos. The main event lived up to the hype. Geese dominating early, Rivers not giving up and pushing a comeback, then trading submissions into the time limit. I LOVED that finish. Geese had two chances to win with submissions then Matt just immediately turned it around into that crossface - which is SUCH a perfect move to jump off the mat and do when time is about to run out. Rivers seemed like the face in this match due to that comeback (a comeback i didn't think would even happen in this sim) and that face comeback made the post match that more heartbreaking. For this match, since I wanted to guarantee the TLD, I actually made alternate versions of both edits and dropped their offensive parameters by 1 and raised their defense by 1. It didn't make a HUGE difference - and I even got a few sims that ended before the 20 minute mark, but it was a useful strategy. Much like the fans, I do wish I knew who would have won that sim had the TLD not happened π And then that post match angle..... woah.... 3-4 days ago, I had the show end with just Matt's attack and the last paragraph with Thunder Strike, medics, etc. I didn't have Ruby. I was thinking that I wanted Matt's attack to stand on its own and people to wonder WHY he did what he did. I suppose people can still wonder that though. I was going to milk the intrigue about the Matt/Ruby connection for a little longer. I even put some subtle hints into the show earlier on connecting Matt's "distant" look to the distant look of both Monroe Brothers. (I kept those hints in even when I added Ruby cause the question of WHY their looks are so distant is still relevant.) But I went with the Ruby reveal for a specific storyline reason that I'll showcase in an RP in the next few weeks. The thing is, i'll always kind of wonder whether or not I should have had Ruby show up immediately OR if I should have had Matt's turn stand on its own. I think there were equal reasons for both but I may have shortchanged Matt in having Ruby join in right after Matt's HUGE moment - I mean, this is like Hulk Hogan turning Hollywood or like Sting joining nWo. Matt has been a face his entire career and the morale leader of the UBL since 2010. For him to do this is shocking on its own (the motivations are as well). But, ultimately, I went with the Ruby moment too and I understand why. But this show could have ended with just Matt's turn and not his alliance with Ruby, and it would have worked in its own way. I suppose i'll never know which way was more impactful but there is a method for my madness! Stay tuned π
