I keep telling myself the secret to continuing UBL strong is to change my approach. But until I can think of what that new method will be, I'm stuck with the decision of "shortchange everything" or "take forever with everything." I don't like either choice but both are better than "end UBL entirely." So hopefully the creative energy will happen at a time when I can actually take advantage of it and the show can be finished before Geese gets concussed again! ðĪŠ I know that feeling, all too well. I'd suggest that there's a decent compromise to be made, and that's to cross out the word "everything" in both of those options. Find some promos to work on or matches to run that come easily, get those going, and that could potentially fuel more UBL goodness. Save the big "writer's block" stuff for when the smaller things get you primed for them, and it might be enough to get your momentum.

I know that feeling, all too well. Thank you! ð That is really excellent advice and you are right. The "everything or nothing" approach doesn't work. I need more nuance with my approach. I need to find that "threshold" (haha) for working on longer shows without burning out and working on shorter shows while still getting the story across. I was thinking about it a lot over the past few days after reading your post and two ideas came to me: 1) I'm going to go lighter on the next show than I was initially intending on doing. Like you said, I need to get some momentum going. Even doing another short RP or two to build up the show before I return to writing it could be good. It's been a few months and it's not like I covered everyone who was participating in that show anyway. But I gotta get my creative Katamari rolling ð 2) I'm going to start using shorter write-ups for the majority of matches going forward. Writing the longer matches has been draining and kind of chilling for my process. I feel like I have to have so much energy to even attempt them and end up not doing anything. I need to lean more on 1-paragraph summaries for most matches and only go longer if I have a very specific idea for it. Like - the Geese/Ward match on the 12/13 show has a unique hook to it and I feel extra motivated to write it given the fun I am having with this next step of Geese's evolution. But if I don't have that unique hook and I'm basically just trying to figure it out on the fly, I'm really better off with a paragraph format. I can still tell stories without going "move for move" throughout the match. The truth is that I really want to focus on the main stories in the promotion now, the pushes of certain wrestlers, and some of the themes of this tour. Not only can I still do that by having shorter matches, but I definitely can't do that if the thought of writing longer matches is de-motivating me so much that I produce zero content. So I think I have a plan forward that makes sense to regain some of that momentum. I just need to continue prioritizing what I like most about working on UBL and make sure I focus my energy on that while reducing things that aren't as important to me or that outright block that progress.

Ok, wow, total ubble thread neglect from me this year ð That should hopefully be coming to an end soon. First, I want to announce UBL's new draft acquisitions from the C!C draft! ogubl.proboards.com/post/2853/threadUBL made out very good with 8 excellent new edits! Pics and brief descriptions in that thread. Second - "So Geese, how's that show progressing that was planned for December of 2020?" It's... coming along. I have 3 matches left to do of a 7 match show. 2 of the matches on the show were very long so they took a while. And I'm out of the writing rhythm which made me keep procrastinating. But I was pretty fortunate to be able to work on it for the past few weeks. I don't want to shortchange anything coming - especially since the main event is one of the remaining matches. But I figure another few weeks. Thing is, I'm actually really happy with how it has turned out so far. So I'm hoping it was worth the wait. But I'm definitely not planning another monster show like this AND writing it with the same detail as I used to. I think I got more done with UBL when it was officially ended in 2012 than I did this past year!! ðĪĶââïļ

Yes! Signs of life and the beginning of a revised plan moving forward for both promotions! ð
OG-Joshi fans have a reason to be excited again! ð
Once I finish this show, the bottleneck will clear up and things will flow more smoothly.

Great to hear! Sometimes it just takes a little infusion of new talent to kick things off again.

Yeah, I definitely notice that my creativity and energy has been sparking since I started the draft.
It helps that this summer has been relatively calm for me as well compared to the past year.
A lot of it is psychological too. The decision to draft new edits meant actively affirming to myself that my feds had a future after a few months where I had doubt about whether to continue them due to how busy I have gotten. The interest in drafting gave me the drive and confidence to get back into the Anniversary show. That, plus the ideas for the new edits, got me to start revising the shows I had planned afterward which gave me a ton of ideas. I still need to make it beyond the big show but I am newly excited for what comes afterward ð
I'm also back to enjoying edit making again. The process of upgrading Geese has been grueling over the past 9 months because of how frustrating the competitive balance was. I finally got him to a solid point (with the edit and, more importantly, in my own acceptance of FPW's limitations) but it has really helped to start building new draft edits rather than endlessly tweaking Geese! ð

I am allergic to finishing that damn Anniversary show ðĪĶââïļ
And I slipped back into pre-summer C!C lurking status.
I'm trying hard to fight that but for some reason it's an issue.
The good news is that I've been on an absolute tear with edit making. Not since FPR have I made so many edits in a two month time span. I actually rediscovered the creative spark with edit making!! ð
The bad news is that I have zero storytelling energy in me right now. I've been running my usual 24/7 headcanon - mostly focused in the Basic Training/UBL Dojo due to all the rookie edits I've made.
At this rate, I probably won't even finish the 2020 Anniversary show before 2022. But I'm mostly at peace with that. If I see it just isn't getting done, then I'll hotshot the last few matches into quicker write-ups.
Just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone ðââïļ
I'm still in this dimension and my key won't work to visit the alpaca one. You wouldn't believe the tacos they have over there. But the kickback knocks you here again.

State of the OG-FPD"The wise man does not ride the turtle that can not hold him. He writes a sternly worded letter instead." - Unnamed Sage. I was guided by that wisdom recently when pondering how my complete inability to finish the 12/13/ 2020 show should contribute to my reflection of 2021 Fire Pro success. On one hand, I can forgive myself for not being able to produce a "Geese style" show in the modern age of horrors. On the other hand, my inability to improvise disheartens me. We'll call it a wash. If I don't finish what I intended to by February, I'm just going to release a stripped down version so I can get things moving again. This year of frozen fedding was excruciating for me at times and I wish it to end soon. Despite my considerable problems doing the above, I have been very successful in some aspects of Fire Proity. And those have been building rookies in UBL and OG-Joshi as well as expanding my head canon for those rookie programs. The UBL Basic Training program roster has grown in leaps and bounds over the past 6 months and I am proud of the new edits that I have made and the excellent ones I have drafted which I have turned into full edits. Despite a year of complete e-fed RP and event failure, this has been the best year for edit making I've had since FPW came out. I have also started to slowly build the OG-Joshi roster. However, since the 12/13 date approaches, marking the 18th anniversary of my OG-FPD projects, I thought it was appropriate to post an RP showing what I have planned. "Haling a Whobody" marks frustrated recognition of the past year and turns a page to the future of OG-Joshi. It also allowed me to have actual written fun with these characters for the first time in a while. After you read that RP, you should check out the link in spoilers: My hope is that I can get a UBL RP up this week as well to celebrate the anniversary.

YAS OG-J LIVES As it just so happens, I made some rookies for my women's tournament! Let me know if anyone catches your eye, Mary MacGregor is probably going to end up in Amazon-1 but would be my personal standout but if the others perk your interest and you'd rather go for unsigned people that's cool too!

Looking at this post, it seems like your new rookies are: Mary MacGregor, River Reade, and Tamika Eclipse. Am I missing everyone? For some reason I kept getting a network error playing the video with the matches of all 3 from that post. I tried the video here and also going to the Twitch site. Your other videos were working too, just not that one. Once I get a chance to see it, I'll let you know who I think would be a good fit for OG-J right now. Also, even though Haley is gonna be the new Sensei, I am thinking about having assistant trainers. Any interest in having Gutter in an assistant role? It would be a natural fit due to her experience and friendship with MJC. Plus, it would provide a good style and personality contrast to Haley's tutelage. I'd probably add another assistant too. Right now I have Barton as the UBL Field Leader and two assistants helping him out but I haven't named them yet.. I think the "Head coach plus two assistant" model works well for these Dojo training programs. MJC: "Now, now, that's OG- JoDojo" ð

I suppose that would work as the promotion she (offscreen) runs is Jersey based. That might make things interesting with Gutter's temper and might need to be told to let off which can lead to something I've been planning for her for a while.
As far as their matches, I've isolated them into individual matches for now, PM incoming

Yeah, I see some definite potential with that story. I imagine Haley's management and teaching style to be fairly strict with students and assistant trainers. So if she has a clash with Gutter, it will make for interesting results ðē I'll probably choose an additional assistant who can keep the peace and has a style that the other two don't.
Also, since Gutter runs her own promotion - that could be an interesting way to test the new recruits.

Which can also cause some conflict to, given that promotion.
"Gutter, why is she BITING our students?" "Honey Badger don't give a fuck."
