Stan Mikita died today :( A true Blackhawks legend. Glad he got to see the revival of the team in the last decade.

^no doubt
Not a lot of legends left from the Original Six era and Mikita was among the greatest of those that came in right before expansion. I think it's a testament to his incredible longevity and consistency that he still holds the Blackhawks career scoring mark more than 35 years after retiring.
Although it was achieved well before my time, the legacy of him and very longtime teammate Bobby Hull remains well intact, even in this age where the game has changed so much.

Speaking of hockey legends, Henri Richard is in hospice care, late stage Alzheimer's.

OK, update on The Arena, I clicked on the link (because it was still in my Google Chrome bookmark bar) and... So, in case you wanted to still save something there, you might be able to still catch it.

Just to be precise, the Arena is still closed. It just hasn't gone away the day it was said it would.
And we have the whole thing preserved now, so technically, you don't have to go there for anything at all :-)

El Picudo died last week too. If you remember Los Gatos Locos, the KISS gimmick in AAA in the 90s, he was the Demon. He was only 51.

RIP Jim The Anvil Niedhart.
Goddamnit. Poor Nattie.
Now, Bret is all that's left from the Foundation.

Holy shit. All of these guys are way too young. Wow. I was just talking with a friend about a match between the British Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation a couple of days ago and we were laughing about Neidhart's evil bastard laugh and how he'd grab that devil, billy goat goatee of his. Lots of awesome Anvil memories. Wow.

"The Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin has passed away.
Pretty much the original diva in the music industry and a legend. My favorite moment of hers is when she filled in for an ill Pavoratti at the Grammys and freaking owned Nessun Dorma with little to no rehearsal time. Gives me chills every time I watch it.
RIP.

Yeah, my mother was a big fan of Aretha Franklin (like most Chicago girls in the 60s and 70s) and she played her records a lot when I was growing up. In fact, Aretha Franklin was probably one the very first artists that I was able to instantly identify just from the sound of their voice, no matter what was being sung. It's fool's work to try to summarize her influence so I'll just simply say that she was amazing and the world is a little less inspired without her tremendous voice in it. RIP

Well stated. Aretha Franklin was one of a kind, and one of the true greats.
