Corner Gas is fun, the cast did an animated series as well. I’ve been to Rouleaux, SK where they film the show, it’s a typical prairie town, but it was cool to see the sets in place.
I’m constantly pimping Trailer Park Boys of course, but Mr D, Kim’s Convenience, and Schitts Creek (with Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy (and his entire family... 🙂)) are some other recent Canadian comedy shows that are pretty good. Mr D is fun, Gerry Dee plays a clueless prick of a teacher at a private school, it feels a bit like the office, but Dee pulls off the role without the cringiness you sometimes get with the office. Fun alternatives for when you binge Corner Gas and are still craving our odd, Canuck humour. 🇨🇦🤓

Watched the rest of Primal, I like this series. Similar stories may have been done before, but this feels new and has a really cool, simple style to it, but its simplicity is what makes it effective. The fifth episode is a bloody and violent one, pretty cool but definitely a cliff hanger for the next five episodes. 🙁🦖🦍. I could see those Disney bitches raising a stink about Spear’s resemblance to a certain green, gamma irradiated wrecking machine of theirs, only spear makes that green dude look like a tranquilized teletubby in episode five! Watching this made me want to get into far cry primal again (even though I platinumed that bitch!), smash some chumps with my cro magnon thug again! I watched the first three episodes tonight and loved it! It's amazing how much DNA it shares with Samurai Jack in some core ways (like the way the essence of the characters is so clearly and easily communicated) while also feeling completely new for just about everything else. That's a huge testament to Genndy's abilities. Third episode fight was REALLY brutal. Especially that tag team charge/squashing of the dinosaur! I didn't realize there were more episodes coming after these five! Awesome!! 😁

Just got done binge watching American Horror Story: Cult. This series has yet to disappoint me with its twists and turns. Already ordered the next season on Amazon.
Also started The Vinland Saga, a Viking anime series. I had started reading the manga years ago then forgot about it and didn't even know until recently season one of the anime had come out.

I had never watched AHS before until I randomly watched the first episode of AHS: Apocalypse last year. At first I thought it was a movie but then realized it was a series. It definitely intrigued me so I watched the entire season. I found it to be overall interesting but I kinda hated the ending. Not sure if you saw it though. Also started The Vinland Saga, a Viking anime series. I had started reading the manga years ago then forgot about it and didn't even know until recently season one of the anime had come out. Ooh, that sounds interesting! What are you watching that on? Crunchyroll? The idea of an anime Viking series definitely sounds cool!

Apocalypse is the season I just ordered, I currently have all the other seasons on DVD. Every season is kinda famous for their endings that are somewhat twisted. Most of the seasons have the same cast, but none of the characters play the same people and the stories and time periods are completely different each time but tend to incorporate or reference real people and events. Although Apocalypse being in the future probably doesn't. I know the first four episodes of the season after Apocalypse have aired and it's set in 1984 and it's supposed to be an homage to the Friday the 13th and Halloween slasher movies of the 80's.
I generally get new anime series off of HorribleSubs and if I like it buy it on blu ray when it comes out. So far The Vinland Saga has been pretty good.

OG, wait till you see primal episode five, that’s some ninja scroll level violence there... 😈 Haha, thanks for the warning/appetizer thoughts 😁 I remember going into Ninja Scroll in like '96 thinking I was prepared for the violence: having already watched Vampire Hunter D and Fist of the North Star. I remember finishing Ninja Scroll wondering if I swallowed my tongue or not 😛😅 Apocalypse is the season I just ordered, I currently have all the other seasons on DVD. Every season is kinda famous for their endings that are somewhat twisted. Most of the seasons have the same cast, but none of the characters play the same people and the stories and time periods are completely different each time but tend to incorporate or reference real people and events. Although Apocalypse being in the future probably doesn't. I won't risk spoiling it at all then. I'll just say that I was impressed with a lot of the storytelling and character building. There were some unexpected things I liked and some I wasn't as into. I liked the broader idea of the ending but there was one specific thing I didn't like. The overall vibe of the setting was done really well though I thought 😎 I know the first four episodes of the season after Apocalypse have aired and it's set in 1984 and it's supposed to be an homage to the Friday the 13th and Halloween slasher movies of the 80's. Yeah, it looks like it has that 80's horror movie at a summer camp vibe. I'm not sure if its tied to the other seasons or not. The advertising looks cool but I'm not sure if I'm going to check it out. I generally get new anime series off of HorribleSubs and if I like it buy it on blu ray when it comes out. So far The Vinland Saga has been pretty good. Wow, that looks incredible! The fight on the boat toward the end really got me! The guy running through all those other guys and then launching an arrow against someone on another boat was awesome! I think I'm gonna have to check this out 😎

OG, wait till you see primal episode five, that’s some ninja scroll level violence there... 😈 Oh shit I saw the last two episodes tonight. 🩸🩸 Episode 4 was awesome with those demon pterodactyls! I wasn't expecting the giant spider either. Brutal kill of it by Spear with that claw through its head! Brilliant usage of its web to climb down! And I loved the whole "being chased by dinosaurs....then being chased by flying pterodactyls....then having the two fight each other ending!! The initial fight against both groups was also brutal.
Episode 5 was completely unexpected. Even with you warning me, like that was NUTS. I'd say the dismantling of the apes was nothing compared to watching Fang get obliterated by the big ape with just one taste of that magic potion. Then when Spear drank the entire thing and just double axe handled the ape to oblivion, i thought that was it. Nope...then he commits near genocide! I don't know what that potion was but I wonder if it will play into later episodes. It clearly was a game changer. I hope Spear's testes didn't shrink afterward 🍒
At least to me, it seemed ambiguous whether or not Fang is dead already or if she will live further at that point. Watching her spit out blood during a roar was really disturbing. Genndy did an excellent job of making me care about Fang, Spear, and their relationship. I also thought the Wooly Mammoth episode was excellent.
In a show with some of the most...primal violence, the hardest hits are to the feels! 😭 Awesome mid-season finale and really excited for the next five episodes!

Finished AHS: Apocalypse. Fantastic as always. It essentially became a sequel to season 3 Coven and even linked season 1 Hell House into it. One of my favorite things about the series is they're constantly connecting characters and events from season to season even though they all initially appear to be completely stand alone anthologies. I've been buying the seasons cheaply on DVD but once the series finishes this will definitely be a blu ray box set purchase from me. Going to start 1984 tonight.

I've been buying the seasons cheaply on DVD but once the series finishes this will definitely be a blu ray box set purchase from me. Going to start 1984 tonight. Since you completed it, here are my feelings on the season and the ending: Some of it is a little fuzzy just cause it's been a while since I saw it. There are more parts I liked than disliked but I can't really remember everything. But anyway:
Liked:
The initial time travel attempt was really cool and showed just how hard it was. I like time travel as the last ditch strategy to beating Michael. It made a lot of sense. Can't beat him directly because he was too strong and he kept killing the Coven. So give a little ground to throw him off and then strike when he wasn't expecting it.
I never saw the Hell House season (or any episodes of AHS before Apocalypse season) but I really liked the "Return to Hell House" episode. I also thought things got really good once Michael left the all-male magic school and started to try to find his way on his own.
The way the season worked with the sudden Apocalypse was jarring and got me hooked. I was also surprised when everyone in the bunker was poisoned so early on so I liked the twists and turns. Then the shot of the witches rising and coming into the bunker was very cool. I wasn't expecting then to go back in time/flashback and then build back to that moment. I liked it. It kept things fresh each episode. And it allowed the "present day" confrontation with Michael to mean something again when we got back to it in the last episode.
Kathy Bates f'n KILLED it the whole season.
The montage of Michael passing the early stages of the Alpha test was absolutely hilarious 😁
Mallory's first display of powers in shooting that fire against Michael was awesome!
Disliked:
I get how "Time Travel" was essentially the method for Mallory beating Michael but the actual finisher was getting run over by a car. It just felt...anticlimactic for the son of the devil to be involved in a slightly more brutal than usual hit and run by a witch who was capable of time travel. The initial moment of him getting hit was brutal but I don't know - maybe I was hoping for some mystical weapon? I just wanted a little more. Though I like how Michael was alive long enough for his grandmother to shun him and leave him for dead. So an instakill wouldn't have worked for that story. Maybe the car could have had paint mixed with holy water? LOL, I'll stop.
I didn't really buy Michael as the antichrist for a lot of the season. I actually thought he was more authentic when he was so conflicted. Early Michael reminded me of Annikan and Kylo Ren. But I just felt like he was playing more of a nobleman vampire than the antichrist. There were some scenes I liked him in but to me it was a good thing that the majority of the season didn't focus on him after the Apocalypse.
Both:
I thought the twist at the very end with Tim and Emily was pretty cool. They seemed like they would be the protagonsists of the season early on. I also like how the "no relations" was later somewhat implied due to what would happen if they reproduced. But that's the thing...what would have happened? Another antichrist? I wish we would have gotten a bit more explanation on the lore behind choosing people who had some kind of "evil" in their DNA. It made sense that after Michael died (in the new timeline) for Tim and Emily to be able to create the new antichrist. But what about the original one? Were they just a backup in case Michael died after the apocalypse? Could two antichrists exist at the same time? I wanted a little more clarity here.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Overall, I really did enjoy the season and found the story compelling. I looked forward to new episodes each week and thought about it a lot. I wanted to know more about some of the antichrist lore the show leaned on as well as the witch lore and that interest is ultimately a good thing to me. A show that captures my attention is a good thing. I just kinda wish the big finish was a little more impactful though I did like the Tim/Emily reveal and visit by the 3 un-wisepersons at the end 😁

Kathy Bates has owned every season of AHS she has been on, especially Roanoke.
It was actually a huge shock when the witches first showed up as they were instantly recognizable and Myrtle being there was even more of a shock as she died during the Coven season; until they explained she was brought back. They managed to tie up a lot of loose ends from the Murder House, Coven and Hotel. Misty Day the swamp witch being left in purgatory after failing her Seven Wonders test, Madison getting out of her personal hell, Michael turning out to be the baby from season 1 being left to be raised by the spirits trapped in the house and Queenie being freed from Hotel Cortez. I knew as soon as they brought back Misty Day that Stevie Nicks was going to show up as the white witch from the Coven season as they made such a big deal of Misty being obsessed with her during that season.
The montage scene of Michael taking the test was another callback to Coven where they used the same black and white montage film to show the witches taking their Seven Wonders test.
Great scene with Evan Peters playing James March (based on the real H.H. Holmes) playing infinite games of cards with Queenie, recognizing Michael as something extremely powerful and telling Queenie she had better go with him. For a serial killer he had kind've a jovial Gomez Addams vibe to him. There's also a great episode in Hotel where every Halloween when the spirits are allowed to temporarily leave the locations they are trapped in, he hosts an annual serial killer party at the Hotel. I remember John Wayne Gacy, Richard Ramirez, Jeffery Dhamer and The Zodiac Killer all showing up for dinner.
Also Moira the Maid from Murder House finally getting freed from the house was great call back. The spirit of the Black Dhalia being dissected in the basement was a nice little nod to one of the more obscure spirits trapped in the house along with Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton making appearances as they were the original protagonists from season 1. So it was a huge fanservice episode seeing all those returning characters and locations being tied together.
When Mallory first displayed her power by accident to Michael and we saw a glimpse of his demonic face I thought for a second it was going to be another callback to AHS Asylum which also featured a demon possessing people.
I don't really have a problem with the way Michael was anticlimactically beaten since at that point in the timeline he was still unaware of what he was. If he had already been aware he was the antichrist and extremely powerful then it would have been a little disappointing that he didn't go out in some crazy duel of magical power. It's interesting you mention nobleman vampire, because when I was watching the show I thought this guy would be perfect for playing Alucard in a live action adaption of Castlevania.
In that last episode when the witches are talking about death, they mention energy never dies, it just changes form. I thought that was the explanation for Tim and Emily now having the antichrist baby. Michael was killed but the Apocalypse wasn't stopped, it was just postponed and Michael would return in another form.
If you go back and watch the Coven season, all the lore about the witches is explained in quite a bit of detail. They even have a rival of a secret organization of witch hunters disguised as a corporation trying to hunt them down and wipe them all out.

Kathy Bates has owned every season of AHS she has been on, especially Roanoke. I heard Roanoke was one of the weaker seasons but the subject matter has always interested me so I kind of want to see it. How would you compare it overall? I want to see that and Coven. It was actually a huge shock when the witches first showed up as they were instantly recognizable and Myrtle being there was even more of a shock as she died during the Coven season; until they explained she was brought back. They managed to tie up a lot of loose ends from the Murder House, Coven and Hotel. Yeah, it seemed like they did a great job not only telling the story in Apocalypse, but giving closure to many characters and stories of previous seasons. That is a pretty cool accomplishment. The Witches coming back was a huge moment and I didn't even exactly know why (having not watched Coven), I just felt it in that moment. It felt like the audience would know who they are and that this was a big return. I like that a lot. The entire transition from the first few Apocalypse episodes to the rest of the flashback season was great. The montage scene of Michael taking the test was another callback to Coven where they used the same black and white montage film to show the witches taking their Seven Wonders test.
Ahhh, I see. I really liked that montage film style 🎬📽 Great scene with Evan Peters playing James March (based on the real H.H. Holmes) playing infinite games of cards with Queenie, recognizing Michael as something extremely powerful and telling Queenie she had better go with him. For a serial killer he had kind've a jovial Gomez Addams vibe to him. It was cool watching Michael "pull rank" on just about every evil character throughout the series. James March was one of the more interesting nuanced ones and that was definitely a great scene. When Mallory first displayed her power by accident to Michael and we saw a glimpse of his demonic face I thought for a second it was going to be another callback to AHS Asylum which also featured a demon possessing people. I watched that scene like five times cause I was genuinely shocked about Michael and about Mallory. I think Mallory was my favorite character of the entire season due to how she started out as so servile (due to the identity spell) and the way she played real Mallory in such an interesting, dynamic way. This scene definitely foreshadowed that Mallory would be the one to kill Michael and I was definitely happy with that. I don't really have a problem with the way Michael was anticlimactically beaten since at that point in the timeline he was still unaware of what he was. If he had already been aware he was the antichrist and extremely powerful then it would have been a little disappointing that he didn't go out in some crazy duel of magical power. That's a very good point. It's not full antichrist that she hit with her car. The scene was definitely violent enough, especially the aftermath when you can see him suffering. And since Mallory wasn't the violent type, it makes sense she wouldn't try to kill him head on with like a knife or even a gun. Using a car as the tool put some distance between her and the kill. It does make sense. And we weren't dealing with "Apocalypse fully-realized Antichrist" so it's not like she needed some mystical weapon. And she did use a freaking TIME TRAVEL spell which definitely works as her special move here (since it was really difficult to master). The car crash was really just a tool for her once she traveled back in time. The time travel and identity spells won the day for the witches. The car was just for the quick and dirty physical action to seal the deal. It's interesting you mention nobleman vampire, because when I was watching the show I thought this guy would be perfect for playing Alucard in a live action adaption of Castlevania. 100% this. I could totally see him as "shades of gray" Alucard way more than I could see him as an "all in on evil" Antichrist (or Dracula, for that matter). In that last episode when the witches are talking about death, they mention energy never dies, it just changes form. I thought that was the explanation for Tim and Emily now having the antichrist baby. Michael was killed but the Apocalypse wasn't stopped, it was just postponed and Michael would return in another form. Ohhh, I missed the significance of that quote. I think I attributed it to something else the Witches were talking about or something else related to them (or Mallory). I didn't realize it was meant to be the explanation for the Antichrist "energy/spirit" switching from Michael to another potential child host. If you go back and watch the Coven season, all the lore about the witches is explained in quite a bit of detail. They even have a rival of a secret organization of witch hunters disguised as a corporation trying to hunt them down and wipe them all out. Definitely interested in checking that out 😎

Roanoke is one of my favorite seasons, particularly because of the actual events based around the Roanoke colony and the actual haunting of the farmhouse, which in real life had nothing to do with Roanoke but for the purpose of the show they linked the two events together. The comic 100 Bullets also has another decent explanation for what happened to the Roanoke colony as well that I kind've liked, although without any supernatural overtones.
I won't give away the mid season twist to Roanoke, but I particularly enjoyed it.

I've read up before on Roanoake (after realizing that the "Croatoan virus" from Supernatural was loosely based on it) and so I'm definitely interested in a season that plays off some of the real life events and overall creepy disappearance vibe. I'll make sure to check that season out 😎
