Figured that this was worthy of it's own thread since it's the lead wrestling series out on the market currently.
Any one excited for this?
I'm managing my expectations, but I'm looking forward to the game. This series has been getting progressively better IMO since they moved from an arcade style to more simulation-based gameplay. The presentation is always top notch and I get months of fun with Universe Mode (despite being far from perfect).
In any event; Here's what we know so far:
The game comes out October 9th
The Pre Order bonuses are Rey Mysterio and Ronda Rousey
The Digital Deluxe / Ric Flair Collector's edition will include:
The Season Pass Exclusive playable WWE Hall of Famers and Legends characters:"Rowdy" Roddy Piper (’80s-inspired) Dusty Rhodes (’80s-inspired) Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat (’80s-inspired) "Macho Man" Randy Savage (WrestleMania VIII) Undertaker (2002)
Exclusive in-game Attires:
Ric Flair (WrestleMania 24 robe) Charlotte Flair (WrestleMania 32 robe)
Exclusive in-game Arena:
NWA Starrcade 1983

Considering the forum we are on, I expect this thread to go over like a fart in church.
Let the “I play both, hear me out” vs. “the series is trash” dialogue begin!

The series isn't trash, I've played and owned every game from the First Smackdown to WWE2k16....but I had to give up at that point due to the same bugs cropping up every year and the utter disappointment that the Universe mode has evolved into. I hear the latest game was very grindy and riddled with micro-transactions which is pretty much the nail in the coffin of me ever buying another game in the series.

Well it's an upcoming wrestling game. This is a board dedicated to another wrestling game. I thought that it was worth a shot. I probably wouldn't have made this thread on Shoryuken.com

Microtransactions only really affected MyCareer. Thankfully that's a mode that I never touch because unlike in FPWW, I absolutely hate using CAWS in WWE-licensed games. WWE 2K17 is a bit buggy, but no worse than 2K16. I find it to be significantly better too.

I'm more excited for this than I am for FPW on the PS4...so there's that.
I'll grab the deluxe edition for all the 80s wrestlers.

I mostly kept up with the series since the Smackdown days but I think I've finally given up on the series. It has a beautiful presentation, but they don't know what to do with Universe and the overall gameplay- specifically the computer AL- always leaves me wanting more. Maybe, if they can clean up the bugs and figure out Universe I'll check it out when its on sale but more likely is I'll sit this year out.

But I eventually had enough. The same bugs being in year in and year out plus the growth of the Deluxe editions and season passes just wore me thin. Mainly because the CC caws could/would be locked from you downloading if you didnt spend the max. More power to anyone that enjoys them, because I want to again some day. Put me in the boat of people that want to come back to the franchise but just need to see some new innovations first.

I hear the latest game was very grindy and riddled with micro-transactions which is pretty much the nail in the coffin of me ever buying another game in the series. The game was pretty grindy if you didn't get the Accelerator (and still was regardless in MyCareer apparently, though I never played that), but there were no microtransactions. Apparently WWE 2K19 might have them.
Even if it doesn't though, I'm skipping 2K19 after the mess they left 2K18 in. Critical game mechanics such as corners/top ropes and AI Irish whip timing has been broken, I think since 1.03 or 1.04 and they've just been left in the game. Some 2K Forum users are trying to deny this despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. And I feel truly sorry for anyone who got it on the Switch.
Apparently 2K's going to step up its investment in the WWE game series, though what that means is anyone's guess. 2K18 might be my last WWE game for a while. I just don't trust them anymore.

The only thing I look forward to about 2K19 is NewLegacyInc breaking it. I'll stick with 2K18, probably get it on Gamefly, and hold it and barely play it for about 8 months.

I've been pretty hardcore into making CAWs in the series for years but I think I finally reached my burnout point with WWE 2K18. I'm at the point where that's the ONLY thing I like to do in the games anymore (I'd play matches online with friends but every year it's the same broken lagfest BS over and over). I know my own impulsiveness too well to say that I'll never get the game but if I do, it will be well after release and not for $60.

There is so much potential to make the wwe games great again but I feel like I’m saying it every year.. it’s no longer a day one purchase for me but if I hear good things about it I might pick it up later on in sale

I feel the WWE 2K games are less bad and more uninspired. Untapped potential. More often than not stuff is taken out just to be put back in as a big new feature in like a year or three. So they come off as little more than a roster update at best, and a neutered experience compared to previous years at worst. The career mode is basically just an endless slog of matches with little context or motivation for doing it, with logic-breaking progression (I have to give up this title to go after this title, but rather than having a match where the objective is to have a good match but lose you just kind of leave the title on a desk somewhere and move on like you never had it) rather than some kind of RNG feud based progression.
Honestly, it showcases a basic lack of understanding of how wrestling works. Winning titles is great and all, but nobody gives a crap about a wrestler who wins a title if he's never had any feuds. They should go back to the drawing board on Universe and Career mode and find a way to somehow combine them. Or at least the structure of them. Have it be that the game contains a ton of feuds, with cut scenes and microphone work specific to the storylines. Have certain storylines be title specific, with other stories being #1 contender match based. So you could randomly, based on previous win loss performance get put into a feud with somebody like Seth Rollins where the winner becomes #1 contender, and then next month you go into a World Title storyline with Rusev for example.

Would be great if it wasn't a yearly title.
I've spent a year on Fire Pro, and I'm nowhere set up enough yet. That's my biggest issue with the 2k series. By the time I'm satisfied with rosters, then I start on entrances, and a new game is out.
And bugs. Why so many bugs that are years old? Fix that shit you hacks.
Game is trash.

I'll get it, but not day one this year. If I can get a cheap one used I will, but no more brand new for this series anymore.
