Catch-All Thread

I've lost roughly 30 lbs since starting my new job. That's over a four month period but still.

RIP another MP3 player. I go through them pretty regularly between using them at work and at home working out. I tend to buy only in the $40-$50 range players because they get such a beating that I can replace them fairly easily. I always have two now. So when the primary breaks I can pick up the secondary and continue on while waiting for the replacement to arrive, which will sit and wait for when the new one finally dies. I usually get 6 to 8 months out of them, I think mainly because my workplace is filled with stearate which is a dry lubricant that looks like flour. It gets into any electronics you bring into the plant and over time I can actually see stearate building up behind the screen on my mp3 players and I think that eventually jams up the internals. We breath it in all shift but were assured it not only wasn't bad for us, it was probably good for us. This was told to us by the same management branch employee who said the high cancer rates of former workers was caused by "the North wind". Can't even make up something that stupid.

Some people bring their Nintendo Switch's to work to use on breaks, but I wouldn't even think of bringing mine in unless they got dirt cheap and easily replaceable.
My recently deceased mp3 player lasted me over a year this time and I've already got a new backup replacement at home and pre-loaded with an emergency play list of music, audiobooks and miscellaneous youtube content. It's a heart stopping moment to be 6 hours into a 12 hour shift to have your mp3 player die and then face the prospect of having to be stuck with your own thoughts for the next 6 hours of the shift.
