This is so cool, these guys are studs! What an amazing tribute to O.G. Shaw Bros and HK/Taiwan movies! The sound effects, the grainy film, the choreography, the cinematography, it’s all there, even the banter!
Enjoy!

Carry over from the wrestling pictures with no context spot. The fabulous ones are at it again ( good ol’ pre music licensing days!)!

So I’ve been digging through some old shit of mine and I came across a Mr Perfect “best of” DVD that the WWF put out a while back. Lots of great Bret Hart matches and whatnot, but I sat and watched this one in it’s entirety. Nick Bockwinkel (C) vs Kurt Hennig for the AWA world title. This is the first time I’ve seen Bockwinkel in action, and Hennig is a kid in this one. It’s amazing to think THIS was pro wrestling 35 years ago. Most acrobatic thing is a dropkick, the rest is mat wrestling. They really told a story without even one 540 splash or anything, and the COMMENTATORS played a big part in making the match work. It was fun watching this, it seems so foreign now, but almost refreshing, just a return to the basics. Part two is in the list if you’re interested. Enjoy!

My cousin and I used to always try and have wrestling matches like this in Fire Pro, KOC and AKI games. A little moveset tweaking and you can have some decent slow paced methodical back and forth matches with plenty of mat work. We would intentionally avoid high spots unless they were going to be potential match enders. And I of course would commentate the whole thing intentionally trying to and sometimes succeeding in infuriating my cousin to the point of nearly throwing the controller.
Makes me excited about the possibilities we may have in the AEW game and whatever wrestling game Yukes is working on. Even the new WWE game could implement stuff like this as they had started to in the previous 2K games.

Sounds like fun! I tried stuff like that with friends playing the AKI games, but it would just turn into a giant shit talking spotfest. Fun, but in a different way! 🙂
Another thing I noticed in this one was SENIORS in the crowd! There are old ladies and guys ( I love the two in the front row, they barely say a word to one another, but they smile at each other and exchange comments. Look like a pair of old friends!). The ref was hustling, too, checking for shoulder clearance on pin attempts and everything!

This is a great little documentary if you’re into rally racing, or if you’re not! Crazy shit!
