Figured since we had threads for WWE, NJPW and LU, Impact deserved one too. Impact/TNA/GFW kinda turned into the laughing stock of wrestling for a while, but it's actually really good right now with Don Callis and Scott D'Amore in control. Hell, they've somehow made me care about Eddie Edwards. Slammiversary is tomorrow night and the card looks great: |

That's...actually not a terrible card. Haven't seen Impact for years, surprised they still do PPV, but that looks like an interesting show.

I just recently started catching up on it myself and I've been pleasantly surprised. The Eddie Edwards saga and the LAX vs. OG LAX civil war have been very entertaining. These videos do a decent job of recapping them (though the Edwards one doesn't get too deep into his violent feud with Sami Callihan):
On top of that, Austin Aries has been a great heel champion, Su Yung (current Knockouts champion) has been impressive since her debut, and Matt Sydal seems to be doing the best work of his career.

I watched the last two weeks (not this week yet, was there a show?) and I'm pleasantly surprised. I've been dying for Impact to get their shit together, not because I was a fan (I've never watched TNA/Impact before) but because I refuse to watch WWE anymore and need something. I love King. The wrestling has been pretty solid except the women are pretty awful still. None of the angles have made me roll my eyes yet. And I loved Aries as a cocky heel.

The go-home show was a couple days ago. Mostly just some decent TV matches, but I enjoyed the women's tag match with Allie & Kiera Hogan vs. Shotzi Blackheart & Tessa Blanchard. We got a great promo from Santana (can't remember if this was played on a previous show) and some fun backstage stuff with Pentagon & oVe.
The women could use some more work for sure, but I don't think they're all that bad. I'm a bit biased though because watching the Allie/Rosemary story has turned me into a huge fan of both. Sucks that Rosemary's injured though. |

The women that I've seen in those two episodes remind me of the WWE Divas in that they're sloppy, do everything way too fast, and don't have a clue what they're doing -- they're just doing stuff. On his podcast Don talks about Tessa being this amazing wrestler but I have never seen it from her, admittedly I've only seen a handful of her matches.
I just think they could use about 5 new girls who are all workhorses to give that division a kick in the ass.
P.S. Taya is fantastic but I haven't seen her on TV yet.

Good shit. It's not exactly the funniest bit ever but I'm quickly growing into an Impact fan. Slammiversary was pretty good. There was a little more hardcore stuff than I care for between the HOH, 5150, and Hair vs Mask matches but otherwise I didn't regret spending 3 hours watching it. I can't tell you the last time I've been able to say that about a WWE event. My biggest nitpick was Aries winning clean over Moose, but I have that problem all the time with WWE as well. It doesn't do much to foster continuing heat for him as a heel champ. I get that he's a hell of a talker and can sustain heel status that way but if that is the case, then what's the point of doing the wrestling? |
