I saw Solo the other day and it was fine. It was exactly the kind of thing I've wanted out of the expanded Star Wars movie schedule: A smaller movie showing sides of the Star Wars Universe not really seen in the main movies.
I feel like people, and movie studios, have too high of expectations for Star Wars movies. If a movie comes out and it's not just as good as the Original Trilogy was the first time you saw it when you were 10, it's disappointing. Nothing is ever going to be that good, so just try to enjoy them for what they are.

Adam Chaplin - Low budget Italian splatterfest in which a widower uses demonic powers to get revenge on the mobsters who murdered his wife. Every single person in this movie is nothing more than a high pressure bloodbag waiting to be burst open in some novel fashion by the titular hero, so they can commence spraying every drop of fluid they contain all over the place. So completely, ludicrously and hilariously over the top that it's in the damn stratosphere. Thoroughly enjoyable. 7.5/10
Mother of Tears - When an ancient urn is unearthed and opened, it unleashes a horde of evil witches upon modern day Rome, who can only be stopped by the daughter of a powerful white witch. A decent if typical latter day effort from Dario Argento, which is to say it has a handful of beautifully shot images, several scenes of tasty gore, and a monumentally stupid ending. Asia Argento is in this movie for more than an hour before she gets her tits out, which HAS to be some kind of record. 6.5/10

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a masterpiece if you haven't already seen it. I'm a bit biased because it is the Coens and they are the greatest in my eyes.

agreed. The first story turned me off a little, but the others are all excellent and darkly humorous.

Great movie, I could watch that one a few times over and not get sick of it! And for the record, the first story was pretty EPIC... :D Coen's look fighting fit again after this one, I hope this was just a warm up for things still to come!

I liked the first story a lot. For one it set the tone of the movie off the jump: The title character of the movie gets one in between the eyes fifteen minutes in, nobody is safe and the world is cruel. The Coens are really really good at creating characters that these inhuman forces of nature (Anton Chigurh, Leonard Smalls, etc.) which Scruggs was definitely one, albeit with a Roy Rogers/Bugs Bunny approach. Honestly the movie is one of the best westerns of the modern era, it drips with callbacks and references to Ford, Leone, Peckinpah, etc. And the Coens are the only directors (to my knowledge) with the balls to cast Tom Waits in a movie and have him sing in it.

Chalk me up as another that really liked the movie, especially the story about the girl moving out west with her brother. I'm actually not a big Cohen Brothers fan, but I've always enjoyed their western style films (No Country, True Grit).
I've actually been on a bit of a western movie kick (Red Dead bleeding into all facets of my life). Re-watched Godless (mini series on Netflix, its amazing if you haven't seen it), finally saw Slow West (also excellent) and watched Unforgiven for the thousandth time (top 5 all time westerns).

PERFECT assessment! And Chigurh... I bet how the Coens/Bardem handled him made even Cormac McCarthy cringe with fear... :D

I get this totally, and more or less agree....but I just found all the singing annoying :P I was afraid the whole thing was gonna be a musical....I HATE musicals.

Speaking of Westerns, the John Hillcoat's 2009 western the Proposition is very under rated.

Speaking of Westerns, the John Hillcoat's 2009 western the Proposition is very under rated. It was a grim and bloody masterpiece for sure...but from 2005 ;) Here's some stuff I watched recently: The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - Thoroughly enjoyable Western anthology. The first segment turned me off a little, but every other story was solid entertainment featuring the Coen Brothers typically excellent characters, sharp dialog and dark humor. Tom Waits absolutely needs to be in more films, his segment and the Oregon Trail one were my favorites by far. 7.5/10
Straight Outta Compton - Fantastic biopic featuring the NWA that showcases a great script, some stellar acting and an amazing soundtrack. I get that Easy E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube were the biggest names involved, but it would have been nice to have a little more focus on MC Ren and Yella as well, it seemed like nothing really happened with them, they were just there hanging around in a bunch of scenes. Also would've liked to see more of the struggle to make it big, and less of the rich and famous partying. 8/10
The LEGO Batman Movie - I've always felt that Batman was a goofy sort of character that was perfectly captured by Adam West, and thus I always hated the obnoxiously super serious and gritty Dark Knight version that was foisted upon the world by Frank Miller. Parts of this were the savage piss-take of the lame version of Batman I wanted it to be, and it had a handful of good jokes, but the story was pretty lame and the songs were godawful. 6.5/10

Hot Girls Wanted - Porn documentaries are pretty much all the same thing. An endless stream of selfish, vapid girls dive headfirst into the meat grinder in the pursuit of their own slice of empty fame culture. They party, live in squalor and get treated like mindless fuckdolls for a few months before they realize that what everyone outside of the porn world has been telling them is true. But by the time they quit, three more entitled teens have reared up to take their place, like the heads of a hydra. *shrugs* It's hard to care. 5/10
The Survivalist - A man surviving alone in the woods following the collapse of society and a drastic population decline finds his routine upset by the arrival of two women at his shack. With wonderfully emotive acting supported by barely any dialog, this film is brutal, smart and very sparse...which makes any discussion of it difficult without delving into massive spoilers. Just know that if you enjoy independent movies and/or post-apocalyptic scenarios, it's definitely worth watching. 8/10

Doesn't anyone else watch movies? No? Just me? Alright, then.
The Christmas Chronicles - A goofy "save Christmas" adventure for kids that never strays far from the safe and expected formula, but also isn't overly annoying, making it a mostly inoffensive mixed bag. While Kurt Russell as Santa Claus is pretty decent (with a couple of genuinely funny moments)...the musical number needlessly thrown into the middle of the film is just atrocious. 4.5/10
My Schoolmate, the Barbarian - A high school fighting movie that sorely disappointed. The characters were all grating, obnoxious stereotypes and the story utterly failed to avoid ticking all the boxes on a long list of overused cliches. Even the action was mostly terrible, badly overusing both slow motion and hyperkinetic editing to string together sequences of video game inspired moves that didn't logically follow each other. It looked much more like something Hong Kong would've produced in 1992, not 2001. For shame. 4/10
Jane - Fascinating documentary on the life and research of Jane Goodall, whose study of the chimpanzees of Tanzania has provided the foundation upon which countless primatologists, sociologists, and anthropologists have based their work. Largely comprised of location footage shot in the 1960's, it paints a portrait of a driven, compassionate woman with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and understanding. Her incredible contribution to both science and wildlife conservation cannot be understated. 7.5/10
