I just watched IT, chapter two and yeah, that movie was a bit long winded. Pretty good overall, but man did it drag on. I still prefer the Tim Curry Pennywise though.

That looks awesome! I'm not sure if that's Ghostbusters 3 or Season 4 of Stranger Things but I appreciate the otherworldly force who smashed their universes together!! 👻👋

Star Wars IX The Rise of Skywalker - As a mindless popcorn action flick, it's pretty good with plenty of chases, fights and enjoyable spectacle. As a Star Wars movie though, it's a steaming pile of hot garbage, shitting all over the legacy and accomplishments of the original trilogy with gleeful abandon. A frustrating and obviously cobbled together mish-mash of bad ideas, nonsensical plot contrivances and cringey fan service that left me feeling nothing but disappointment for what could have been. Fuck you, Disney. 5.5/10

I haven't seen Rise of Goosewalker yet but my impressions of the first two movies are that I was watching two almost completely different movies. The two had the majority of the same characters but almost felt like fanfic versions of each other (with one as a fanfic prequel and the other as a fanfic prequel) That isn't a good thing.
There are parts I liked and disliked from both but I just don't get why THE most anticipated trilogy sequel of the last 50 years wasn't given to just one director with a unified vision. This "passing the baton" approach was doomed from the start. Even putting aside issues of fan criticism and the question of how much of a priority it should be to entertain/pander to fans, I just don't get the plan of having two directors do it rather than one. Especially since they just were not on the same page. Now maybe if Last Jedi wasn't hated, we wouldn't be seeing such public acknowledgement of the disconnect between the two directors but I just think a unified vision was sacrificed here and I'm not sure why.
I also get that Lucas wasn't 100% responsible for all the storytelling and directing of the original trilogy but he had way more overall creative input on them than either of the directors had for the entire trilogy here. I also think that the issues with the prequel trilogy didn't stem from just one creator doing it, but from it stemming specifically from late 90's George Lucas. It's not like other trilogies that have had a cohesive vision from one director have failed.
I'll see Rise after New Years and I'll try to go in with an open mind. Mostly cause I just don't have that much invested in the series anyway so I can't see myself getting too angry. (The most angry I've ever gotten was from the whole "higher ground" thing and that was more of a pro wrestling fan anger than feeling betrayed as a Star Wars fan). I have already heard spoilers and eh, it sounds at the least like it may be an interesting train wreck if it is indeed one LOL.

"an interesting train wreck" is a surprisingly apt description lol

In the youtuber Shadiversity's hour long review, he described the film as: Trash of the highest order. The Last Jedi Killed Star Wars and The Rise of Skywalker shits on its grave.
What it comes down to is Bob Iger fucking off to write his memoir so he didn't supervise Kathleen Kennedy who in turn fired numerous directors over 'creative differences' and put her SJW butt buddy Rian Johnson, not only in charge, but gave him carte blanche to abandon JJ Abrams scripted out trilogy and do whatever he wanted.
Then not only was Rian Johnson removed from the trilogy after TLJ (rumor is Disney has also canned Johnson's stand alone Star Wars trilogy as well) but they put Abrams back in charge to try and fix Johnson's mess. Abrams realizing the Skywalker saga was not salvageable thanks to the pit Rian Johnson left it in, literally and publicly said 'Fuck it, I'm doing whatever I want.' and now we have the nonsensical Rise of Skywalker; thus completing the ruination of forty years of canonized world building and lore.
Many are speculating Kathleen Kennedy may not be around much longer either.

Iron Fists and Kung Fu Kicks - A competent, thorough and enjoyable documentary charting the history of kung fu cinema from the earliest Peking Opera films through to The Matrix. As a cranky old hermit who has spent the last 25 years steadily devouring every chop socky flick I could get my grubby hands on, there wasn't much here that I didn't already know...but to those neophytes who are currently discovering Hong Kong action cinema of the 70s and 80s, this is an excellent resource/retrospective. 7.5/10
The Irishman - Aging mob hitman Frank Sheeran tells his life story. Well, it's Martin Scorsese directing an all star cast in an epic gangster movie...so naturally it's of excellent quality and filled with really strong performances. However, no amount of CGI can hide the fact that De Niro moves like a man in his 70s, and several parts of this movie were totally unnecessary or dragged on forever. Still definitely worth your time. 8/10
The One-Armed Swordsman - A martial arts student loses a limb and has to learn to fight with his offhand in order to protect his school. A massive hit in which Chang Cheh introduced Hong Kong and the world to a rugged, bloody new style of wuxia pian, sparking the late 60s/early 70s explosion of kung fu films. Historically significant, and it has some great iconic moments, but the action overall is slow and stilted compared to more modern fare. Perfectly enjoyable, just don't expect non-stop crazy fight scenes. 7/10

Pacific Rim Uprising, was like a filmed for TV movie. After an extremely cringe opening 20 minutes, I made it about an hour in before I couldn't take any more and shut it off. Seems anytime a movie franchise attempts the 'new generation' type of theme it turns into trash, especially when they kill off a beloved main character from the original pointlessly.

Yeah, the real key is to find a way to build upon the original framework with the new generation bolstering what the originals started, instead of acting as pale shadows of what came before. Hollywood never gets this right, though, as they always want to use the new generation to entirely replace the old for various reasons. Uprising looks pretty bad in the trailers so I didn't even bother, despite how much I enjoyed the first one.

Finally got around to seeing Joker. 10/10. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's really good. Phoenix does an incredible job portraying his mentally unstable character and the film just fills you with that dreadful thinking throughout that something is horribly wrong. Amazing soundtrack too.

YES!! 👏
It's wild to me that we're going to get Kenshin vs. Enishi in a big budget live movie before we truly got it in animated form (not counting "Reflection") but I love the tension the actors put into the confrontation. And that Enishi looks legit. Really excited for this. The previous live action Kenshin movie trilogy was excellent!
