Taunts:Besides the performance aspect, performing a taunt can apparently heal a Wrestler's energy Great finds. Does X premium not have this? As far as I know, it does, as do the later games. if i recall correctly, Special was the first one in the series to feature a separate "spirit" or morale mechanic that factors into a wrestler's ability to keep fighting, and doing things that appeal to the crowd is the only way to boost it. I'm not sure if it's the case in Special as well, just w/the Y+B moves, but using your wrestler's finisher or signature moves will also boost their spirit in 6MS and beyond for sure.

Understanding Special's colour system in Edit mode:
While adjusting the colours of a Wrestler's ring attire and skin tone may seem like an unorganized process, you may be shocked to discover Special's Edit mode does in fact follow a specific system:
For this example, I am going to use bonus template #127 (Bret Hart). If you were to press right on Bret's pants, or boots, the following colours would be black. This is not accidental. That's because the colours are lifted from the next template over (#128 - Papa Shango). The colours for each body part are lifted from the order in which the Wrestlers appear. If you happened to like The Ultimate Warrior's boots and wish your Bret Hart edit could have them, you would just have to keep a mental note of Ultimate Warrior's template placement (in this case #134 - which is seven templates after Bret at #127). Simply highlight the boot section, press right seven times and Bret will be wearing Ultimate Warrior's boots. Personally, I'm glad this system was done away with in future Fire Pro titles. Talk about being unnecessarily complicated. But, there you have it.

Easy win strategy in Champion Road mode without using grapples:
In Champion Road, Morio's moveset continues to improve as the story progresses. By Chapter 5, Morio's skills become so good that (with the right strategy) matches can end in less than a minute. The first opponent Morio faces in chapter 5 of Champion Road is hidden character Thomas Smit (Maurice Smith). Note: this strategy can only be used after reaching Chapter 5 in Champion Road mode:1) When the enemy is close enough, start off with a Mid Kick (B button). 2) Once your kick connects, the opponent will naturally move forward, continue to tap the B button to keep the Mid Kicks coming. As your opponent moves closer, try to keep yourself distanced to avoid being grappled. Casually move back every few kicks.3) After a few Mid Kicks, press Y + B to perform Morio's special High Kick in close range. While it takes about 10 Mid Kicks to knock an opponent down, the High Kick is extra damaging; requiring one single shot to knock the opponent down to the mat.
4) Once the opponent is on the ground, press the Y (and the opponent's feet - face down) to pick the opponent up. 5) After the opponent has been raised to their feet (and is still in a groggy state), go for another High Kick (Y + B). 6) After repeating the above steps a few times, go for a submission hold (A at the feet of opponent - face down) to win the match. As the story progresses, Morio's moveset will continue to change, but the strategy remains the same: stun the opponent with kicks, bring them to their feet, repeat and then go for a submission.By Chapter 9, Morio gets his most effective kick - The Extrusion High Kick (A button) which pairs nicely with Mid Kicks.
Certain opponents will go for punches as soon as they are brought back to their feet. Making them easy targets for Morio's new High Kick!
Using the above trick, Macho Madness was brought to end in 26 seconds!
With the above strategy, the final boss Dick Slender (Ric Flair) was brought down in less than a minute. No grapples required!

Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special mentions two Wrestlers under their real names:
From in-game characters to Wrestlers who are only mentioned in Fire Pro's story modes, the vast majority of Wrestler who have appeared throughout the Fire Pro series have been renamed to avoid copyright issues. Though, there are two exceptions: Hidden away in Super Fire Pro-Wrestling's Edit mode (move data section), are two moves which reference the real-life Wrestler's they were modelled after. The first move is called ビクトル膝十字固め (Victor Knee Hold), which is lifted from Victor Koga, a famous Japanese grappler who helped popularize Sambo throughout Japan. The second move is "ゴッチ式パイルドライバー" (Gotch Style Piledriver); named after 'the God of Professional Wrestling' Karl Gotch. It should be noted that other moves listed in Special use the included Wrestler's Fire Pro renames; such as "グレイ式マシンガンキック1" (Gray Style Machine Gun Kick 1); named after Rick Gray (Dick Vrij). To have both legend's techniques remained intact, not only shows Karl and Victor's impact in Japan, but also a show of respect from the developers who featured their moves in Special.

Harley Race has four hidden appearances in Special!
Fans of the Wrestling legend may be shocked to hear that Harley Race makes four secretive appearances in Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special's Edit mode.
Race's first appearance is hidden away in Edit mode's 'Wrestler Maker' section. The specific template number is #139.
As an added bonus, Race has his very own Backdrop named after him in Edit mode's "Move Data" section. Race's technique is listed as "レイス式バックドロップ" (Race Style Backdrop), and is located on page 5/8 in the back grapples section (Left/Right + A) and (Y + B together).
Race's third appearance comes in the form of the technique: レイス式ニードロップ (Race Style Knee Drop), which can be found on page 6/8 of Edit mode's ground techniques section.
Lastly, on page 7/8 of Edit mode's Move Data section, under top rope techniques, there is a technique called レイス式ダイビン グヘッドバット (Race Style Diving Headbutt), which is one of Race's signature techniques. A technique, unfortunately, Race has gone on to regret innovating years after the fact
Having Race's techniques appear in-game makes the legend one of the few Wrestlers mentioned by their actual names in the Fire Pro Wrestling series.
Trivia: Goichi Suda (better known as Suda51 - the man responsible for writing Champion Road's story) recalled that the first Wrestling match he ever watched as a child involved Harley Race; making Race's special treatment in video game form all the more understandable.

Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special has many secrets. Here's another interesting one I just discovered: Hidden Wrestler taunts:In Edit mode's "Performance" section (Page 8/8 of Move Data- second last option), the player can select specific taunts for their created Wrestler. The number of available taunts changes depending on the size of the created Wrestler. Using the same created Wrestler, the number of taunts changed from 8 taunts to 24 taunts when switching Wrestler sizes. To adjust a Wrestler's size, select the third option from the Wrestler Maker menu of Edit mode. Using the above example, selecting the L Size allows created Wrestlers to use Ted Dibiase's signature taunt. Why is Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special's Edit mode set up like this? Simple: the programmers didn't have enough time to create matching sprites/frames of animation for every size class. An issue that would be resolved in future Fire Pro titles.

Special does have Wrestler voice clips!
Sound bites have been a staple in the Fire Pro series since the very beginning. Grunts, referee calls, and even signature taunts from the Wrestlers themselves have been replicated over the years. Who can forget Fujiwara's cackle as he applies an armbar? Or Vader shouting "SABRE" as he goes for a Vader splash? Even Hulk Hogan dusted off a "shuuuuuh" as the opponent braced for an Axe Bomber. Yet, strangely, Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special did away with most of the series' in-game voice clips. Except for...
Bruiser Brody, Jumbo Tsuruta and Sting.
Three iconic legends, three crowd favourites known for their taunts. Brody's "HUSS, HUSS, HUSS", Tsuruta's "OH" and Sting's "OW" are all faithfully replicated in all their 16-bit audio glory in Special. Sadly, Fire Pro would do away with Wrestler voice clips entirely by the followup game: the indispensable Super Fire Pro-Wrestling X & X Premium.

Special update: I'm still slugging away at another part of Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special. The name of the game: maxing out that darn win counter. To date, my win count now exceeds twenty-four thousand (24,000) victories. That's a lot of Special! Maybe the counter goes up to 100k or ...dare I say ....a cool million. Have you played a million matches in any video game?

Go beyond the railing:
When playing as Samurai Jiro (Shiro Koshinaka), exit the ring and take the fight to ringside. With Shiro's back facing the rail, perform Shiro's Running Bulldog (left/right + A - front grapple).
If done correctly, Shiro will run through the rail, taking the opponent into the crowd/over the announcers for a few seconds!
This trick also works for Big Schteiner (Rick Steiner), and any other Wrestler who can perform the
Running Bulldog.
There are hidden Wrestler voice samples locked away in Special's ROM:In the booklet of the Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Complete Collection, the sound composer of Special mentioned that there are, in fact, hidden Wrestler voice samples locked away in the ROM of Special.
The composer stated that most of the voice clips were removed due to the sound issues they created when playing side-by-side with Special's other sound effects and BGM. The composer goes on to mention that he was at odds with Special's programmers over file size, requesting the composer to reluctantly revise and trim down many of his compositions in the process.
When playing Special on a ZSNES emulator, players can occasionally hear the glitchy voice samples by accident - which are usually accompanied by distorted BGM and loud, incredibly annoying beep noises. The voice samples themselves are mostly groans and grunts after an opponent has taken a hit, or has been thrown out of the ring.

Akira Maeda's hidden bonus taunt:
Did you know Akira Maeda has a hidden bonus taunt that is only available in Special's Edit mode? To access this taunt: - In the Wrestler Maker menu, make sure your Edit Wrestler's size is set to L (this taunt is only available for Wrestler's in this weight class). - On page 8 of the Technique Data section, select 'Performance' (second-last option). - Maeda's bonus taunt appears as taunt 7/9. - Save your Wrestler. If done correctly, pressing the shoulder buttons L + R simultaneously during a match with your created Wrestler will activate Akira Maeda's hidden bonus taunt.

Amazing finds, Kiano! Proof that a prototype of Special does exist!
I personally like the unused character portraits of The Great Kabuki and Kengo Kimura. Both of whom are dressed in matching purple Karate Gi's as a reference to the Heisei Ishingun stable both Wrestlers were part of at the time.
Having a red-coloured referee is an interesting addition. It would have been cool if we could have manually selected the colour of the referee's attire, too (the same way Wrestler attires can be selected).
Hercules Hernandez is under a different name in the above photos (Page 18). In-game, Hernandez was given the Fire Pro rename Jurassic Achilles in the final release of Special. In the above screen, Hernandez' name is listed as 'Helnan'.

Feint rising technique:
In Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special, players can actually trick their opponents while laying on the ground. This trick is especially useful for dodging certain attacks (such as a pesky Lariat). In fact, there are two versions of this technique:
Version A - the crouch delay trick:
Once laying on the ground, press the B Button to make the Wrestler rise to their feet. During the rising animation, HOLD
B again. If done correctly, the player will now be paused in a crouch position, ideal for dodging attacks for a number of seconds.
Version B - the ground delay trick:
While on the ground, HOLD B. This version will keep the player on the ground, delaying the process of rising to their feet for a couple of seconds. Additionally, this trick will also bring the player into a crouching position, too.
It's worth noting that these tricks actually work in all of the Super Fire Pro-Wrestling titles.

With the right timing, players can freeze their opponent(s) when going for a German Suplex. Simply run towards the opponent and perform a Western Lariat. The Lariat will release one character from the hold, while leaving the other stuck applying the Suplex for the remainder of the match.
Sabu eternally stuck applying a German Suplex ....on no one.
