Capcom is just trying to freshen up the Street Fighter series. Same thing happened with Puzzle Fighter, Alpha, EX, X Tekken and so forth.
Personally, I don't care for the free roaming idea. Just reminds me of Soul Calibur Legends on the WII.

I'm flatly going to wait however many years it takes for them to put out a comprehensive version. I just can't do their beta nonsense again.

Street Fighter has earned a spot on my golden nostalgia shelf, I’m not going back to capcoms nickle and dime you to death approach to their once great franchise. It’s not aimed at me, anyway, it’s an esports title now. It will be interesting to see the changes, but I don’t have the time or $300 all in that this thing will end up costing if you’re an early adapter. Wait five years for the platinum plus diamond directors cut 10K edition.

The more I'm seeing of the gameplay, the more I'm becoming pretty optimistic about SF6.
That Guile video looked awesome. The gameplay engine seems different from 4 and 5. Both felt satisfying to play but 6 seem to have a great combination of "heft" and "smoothness" to the animations.
The new engine tricks also look interesting and are executed really well with the paint effect.
I still expect them to take everyone for the frustrating "Vanilla -> Super -> Hyper ->" ride but the game looks like it may be fun enough to play for me to get vanilla when it comes out. I'm a little uncertain on the appeal of some of the new characters but using the original 8 with this new engine looks really satisfying.
The free-roaming thing has me intrigued. But I may have to mute/skip some of the "Do you even parry, bro?" sentiments that seems to be ingrained in the DNA of the presentation of the game.
I hope Ryu's new super isn't the HGHadouken 😅

I think the appeal of the new characters is Capcom's attempt at making Street Fighter "hip" again with today's gaming crowd. Kind of like Lucky Chloe's design from Tekken.
Everyone seems to be growing a beard these days, so, a lot of the Street Fighter characters now have beards themselves. Sometimes art imitates life.

Call it an unpopular opinion, but I could never stand ground juggles in the later Tekken games.
Sure, air juggles and 8 hit combos have been around since the first Tekken. But, following up those counters with moves that have a player bouncing back and forth along the ground with breakable, multi-tiered stages and wall damage is just overkill to me.
In the past, a couple Electric Godfists strung together were enough to punish a player into playing more defensively.

KOFXV getting crossplay and Samurai Shodown getting rollback netcode in the spring. This will definitely get me playing Samurai Shodown again.

SNK released the new character pack for KOF XV yesterday too and it's great 🏆 I love the "New Face" team and their "Orochi" versions. And KOF XV continues the trend of taking my favorite characters and making the best versions of them. Orochi Yashiro and Orochi Chris are sooo fun to play and move so smoothly. I immediately picked them up. Even though the majority of their normals are the same as the regular versions, the Orochi versions just feel more impactful. Yashiro is a bit slower but even stronger. Orochi Shermie has always been a bit confusing to me but her walking animations made me LOL. I haven't played KOF XV as much as I've wanted to but every time I play it, I'm blown away with how perfect it feels. The entire feel of the game, especially combos, nails the right balance between fluid movement and impact. While I am getting increasingly excited for SF6, I'm glad to see that SNK took the attention that KOF had from EVO and have managed to keep it in the spotlight - at least in the FGC. SF6 will have much more mainstream attention once it's released, especially with the free roam mode. I'm still wondering how that will work. Will we be able to fight random NPC's with an upgraded Final Fight engine or is it more like an open world RPG where the conversations then lead to regular SF fights. I assume it's the latter but I'm kind of hoping we get a little of the former too. I want to use Blanka and run into an open market to steal their pineapples 😄
