I was at an ECW show a few months after Owen Hart died. Some guy in the crowd held up a sign that said:
DROP OWEN HERE
He tried to heel it up, but the crowd turned pretty dark on him and he ended up getting his ass kicked. I'll never forget the look on his face when he realized the fans around him didn't care for his "joke."

This was the moment I quit on WCW. Luckily I did not witness 2000-2001. I think a lot of people did at that moment. I was unfortunately watching it when that happened and was in shock(pun intended) for a day or two afterwards, wondering what the heck was going on with WCW. I did stick around to the bitter end, and regret watching so much awful wrestling at the time, but I really was a WCW diehard.

WCCW as in World Class or typo for WCW? If World Class, what did you hate so much? I thought they had some decent stuff at least in their heyday.

I mean World Class. I'm from Dallas, and I *love* WCCW a lot, but god damn: 1. David 2. Mike 3. Gino 4. Bill Mercer equating Ginos death with a blindness angle 5. The lance saga 6. Chris 7. Kerry 8. Fritz's "heart attacks" Those are the sad ones, but let me also mention Kerry and Kevin promos and/or appearances on the church channel. My friend described them as "kind of dumb" as in possibly mentally challenged. That being said, WCCW had a lot of great wrestling and Kerry is my all time fave. My dad's all time fave is Brody because of seeing him on channel 39. At one point it was the best promotion in the world no doubt.

I also remember being just stunned. This may also be the moment I knew for sure wrestling was "fake," even though I think it was well after the montreal screwjob. WCW was what got me back into wrestling. I was flipping channels and had my mind blown by a heel Hulk Hogan. It was the Nitro after he turned, where he's doing the promo with Mean Gene. I don't think younger fans appreciate how earth-shattering that was.

I can certainly understand the sudden deaths, fake heart attacks and anything related to Lance Von Erich as cringe-worthy. Thanks for clarifying. My only exposure to WCCW was the show on ESPN at 4pm in the afternoons. Seemed to bounce around time-wise so I never knew if what I was watching was a few months old or years ago. But it exposed me to the Missing Link, Super Destroyers, the Von Erichs, Iceman Parsons, Chris Adams, Killer Tim Brooks, Eric Embry, Memphis Wrestling, and gave me additional exposure to Gary Hart, Great Kabuki, and the Freebirds. Some of my fondest eighties wrestling memories. Of course, I was a mark and thought GWF was an actual world-wide promotion so what do I know? :)
