I just watched the best women's UFC match I've ever seen.
This was the only reason I wanted to see the event but I....nobody.....could have predicted that it would be so goddamn epic.
Zhang Weili (champion) vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk
It's damn sure not for the weak of stomach but if you want to see two great fighters have one of the most exciting encounters ever inside of the cage, look for this one.

Haven't seen it, but I was watching Adam Kownacki vs Robert Helenius on a whole card of HW boxing matches, my favorite prospect Efe Ajagba looked solid, and the main event delivered. Let's just say I'm working on a new edit tonight as a result. I certainly want to check the Weili-Jedrzejczyk fight before I get spoiled on it, always liked Joanna and I've heard great things about Weili.

The NBA season is suspended until further notice. Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. Pretty scary stuff. Please stay safe everyone.

I didn't know this until the morning papers got delivered but apparently the Jazz were out here getting ready to play my local team when the announcement happened. Suddenly it feels a lot closer to home.

I like how the NBA (a professional league that generates billions of dollars and stands to lose as much as a few hundred million dollars) had the fortitude to immediately halt play but the NCAA (which also makes a fuckton of money, particularly during March) is like, "fuck the players, we NEED THAT MONEY" (of which the players get ZERO, by the way) and thus they're scheduled to continue the annual NCAA Basketball Tournaments, only without fans in attendance. >_< The NCAA doesn't give a DAMN about the people who actually make the money for them. The kids can't even attend class (some universities have cancelled lectures, moving to online alternatives) but they can damn sure go out there to breath and sweat on each other for 2 hours! It's not like they have to travel or anything. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is a bit of a milquetoast imo but he QUICKLY made a decision about his league's status during this outbreak and took a step that frankly, many businessmen dread to take. Good on him and his team for showing some good sense in dealing with this extremely serious health risk. I love sports but neither it nor money are worth risking people's lives.
Edit: With the notable exception of the Big East, the remaining NCAA conference basketball tourneys have been cancelled, a decision that was made by each individual league. I can only hope that the NCAA itself comes to its senses within the next few days, otherwise the invited teams might just boycott the damn thing.

The MLB and NHL have now followed suit and suspended play.
Interesting to see what the XFL does considering they had a concessions employee in Seattle previously diagnosed. This would be an unfortunate thing for them considering they're just trying to go through one whole season.
I'm sure WWE is going to face some serious criticism as well if they continue to stay silent.

An update: XFL to play in empty stadiums. YIKES!
Lots of other sporting events and large gatherings are also delaying or canceling.
BUT AT LEAST WE STILL HAVE FUCKING WRESTLING! IT'S REAL TO US, DAMN IT!

It’s no different with the premier league in England, my teams game was postponed last night due to the team being in contact with a chairman who tested positive but there is absolutely no suggestion that the league will be suspended or the league stopped. There’s been talk of behind closed door games but absolutely no talk of cancellation of the season yet - yesterday the FA confirmed England’s international games will go ahead with fans because they don’t want to cancel money spinning friendly games!
Money talks big time and the money that would have to be repaid to sponsors I guess has already been spent or clubs are just too greedy to accept having to pay it back. Money has destroyed sport and the essence of competition/sporting contest - it really is just all about the money generated now

All elite level football in England is suspended till 3rd of April at least due to Coronavirus. It was such a no brainer when 25pct of the league is in self isolation... just beggars belief they tried to press ahead with it all! Liverpool’s next game (currently) is Citeh at the Emptyhad. Big big game to look forward too.

Be interesting to see if the NFL conducts a public draft. If not, then it will be teams doing their picks in their respective war rooms and sending them in to Roger Goodell, who then announces the picks from his office in N.Y. rather than on a stage in front of an audience.

Do you think the NFL season will start on time? I read somewhere that the US isn’t due to hit their peak of the pandemic until October. I don’t have a feel for how cut throat the NFL is with the show must go on but there’s the whole players union over there that we don’t have here to add a layer of complexity

Is it bad that I forgot the XFL was a thing until I saw "unidentified Seattle Dragons player" on a list of athletes confirmed to have gotten the coronavirus?
