From Road FC 52 in Korea, the final bout of the lightweight tournament between Shamil Zavurov and Mansour Barnaoui. Great fight, very evenly matched with two tough fighters (Don't know what's in the water in Dagestan...), crazy finish at ~ 13:50 mark of the video (rd 3). Zavurov vs BarnaouiEnjoy! :)

Yeah, that is a pretty KO. Barnaoui is a monster for his weight class, a lot like Jon Jones is, and his last four or five wins were by RNC, so he’s a beast on the ground, too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him show up in the ufc sooner than later.

I didn't play super close attention to the Hockey Worlds but I'm glad that Finland won, if only because it led to this beaut of a tribute

Well, how do you like that? LFC! Very much so! Time for a few more beers I think. I might be a bit delicate in the morning but Liverpool are European Champions for the 6th time. Don't care how bad we played either, we won!

the (dodgy IMO) penalty call in the first minute kind of sucked some of the drama out of the game...without that call I bet the first half would've played out much differently. In the end though, Liverpool deserved their win, congrats to them. Too good of a side to finish the year empty handed...the Premier League was the real goal this year, but hell, a Champions League trophy makes a nice consolation prize.

El Marsh,
That IS a heartfelt and touching tribute, especially the last part! I don’t know what is wrong with me as I am a proud Canadian and all that, but Canada losing to Finland was fine with me. The big four hockey nations (Canada, Sweden, the US, and Russia) almost seem to have a sense of entitlement, always looking past other teams as insignificant, and a lot of other countries in those tournaments don’t have a fraction of the big teams budgets. Finland winning shakes things up, it makes things interesting for fans again (especially in the women’s game), it should make other teams step their game up, and it shows other nations that the big guys aren’t invincible like they’d like to think.
I used to be a big fan of the NHL, but that sense of entitlement, lack of accountability (where else in any aspect of life is the boss fired for consistently shitty worker performance?), and mercenary attitude seen in the league turned me off a very long time ago. Humility in the form of loss at the junior level, HOPEFULLY (but not likely) will remind these spoiled shitheads to appreciate the position they’re in, bust their asses for their giant pay checks, and play with a bit of heart and pride (I live in an NHL city, and our team has arguably the best player in the league if not in this current generation, but do they consistently make it to the playoffs? No. You’re a hater if you’re not a fan or if you question the celebration of sub par mediocre at best quality of play generated by the “team”, but they sell out the barn every night, the tickets cost a fortune. Don’t get it, but the sheep keep marching along 🙂).

Jeez, decided after my rant to check out Blues vs Bruins game 3 for a bit, Boston is absolutely bombarding the blues, that building started off red hot but the bruins killed the momentum and shut the fans up pretty fast. Not a bad game with some great goals, and listening to the American announcer (no offence, it’s just reminds me of how us Canucks must sound yo everyone else!) trying to say “Saskatchewan” (we say s-skachewan, this guy said sas-Kat-chew-an. Awesome!). Pretty good game between two good American hockey towns, it would be cool to see the bruins make it a three title year for Massachusetts!

O_O !_! O_O Any other fans of the sweet science? Boxing Championship Spoilers In what is without question the greatest upset in the division (perhaps the entire SPORT) since Buster Douglas defeated Mike Tyson, unheralded replacement challenger Andy Ruiz Jr scored a stunning TKO upset of reigning IBF, WBO, and WBO World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua. The shorter, rounder Ruiz surprised the rangy Briton early on with his hand speed and power, knocking him down twice in the third round (and FOUR times total). After the last knockdown in the 7th, Joshua was slow to answer the ref's health check, twice, which prompted the shocking stoppage. At that point, nothing short of him scoring the KO himself would have derailed Ruiz from winning. Words don't do justice to how amazing this upset victory was. Big congrats to Andy Ruiz who few gave ANY chance of winning going into it (despite Joshua's questionable chin). In winning these titles, he's the first Heavyweight Champion of Mexican heritage ever (kind of hard to believe, no?). What a friggin night![\spoiler]

Imagine the pronunciations if the Blues franchise were actually permitted by the NHL to pull the trigger and move to Saskatoon in the 1980s. The announcers would have a field day.

I can’t believe there isn’t a franchise in Saskatchewan to be honest. I remember Betman saying if it were up to him there would be no franchises in Canada (one of the reasons I stopped actively following theNHL). I think Saskatoon could support a team now, it would be nice to see a team there, that province produces so many players. St Louis has a solid fan base, I am glad they kept the Blues there. I don’t care for hot, baseball/football centric places having franchises (Phoenix, Tampa, the Panthers, Carolina, Anaheim) where tickets have to be given away to make the place look full on tv because no one cares about “ice hockey”, but I know it’s a business and it’s all advertising money, but dayum, Canadians live and breathe hockey! We even have games called in Punjabi and Tagalog here! But yeah, Sask getting a team would be bad ass, the team in Winnipeg is doing well, so it would be cool to see another prairie team in the mix! (OT: in the CFL, the Labour Day game between Sask and Winnipeg is nicknamed the”Banjo Bowl”, snotty bigger cities considering those places to be full of hicks and all, so it would be cool to see an NHL version!).

Bettman's an ass, but I'm not saying anything new there.
