I'm still making my way through the official parts of NBA All-Star Weekend but NBA TV and TNT has produced a lot of fun specials recently. I just watched a 30 minute NBA TV special called "Charlotte Hornets: Where the Buzz Began" - anyone who has 90's NBA nostalgia (Senator, looking at you) should check this out 😎 I know the NBA TV channel often airs something called "NBA '90s" which is a 5-part miniseries basically as nostalgia for the NBA from that decade. I liked it, but it left me wanting more (I think because it was only 5 episodes, each only 30 minutes long). They did one for the '80s too, by the way. Same here. I enjoyed those "NBA 90's" episodes too but they just kind of scratched the surface of the different eras and concentrated way too much on some players while almost completely ignoring others. I liked the series overall but each episode should have been an hour rather than a half hour. The Charlotte special was similar in that it was good but it felt like it ended before it really got started. It needed an hour. A lot of the time was spent on the first few years of the team. The LJ/Mourning era was given time but too much of that time was spent discussing LJ's Converse campaign and not enough about how great the team was becoming. They mentioned how the team kind of disbanded before it had a chance to really become great. And while I agree with that, and realize they had to end the show on that note, they could have covered Charlotte's playoff series with the Bulls. As a big fan of the team in the 90's, I REALLY enjoyed the nostalgia. I feel like someone who was watching the show who wasn't familiar with them may have been a little confused though. But it was a fun watch. This year's All Star Saturday Night Skills Challenge was REALLY fun. Wow 👏

I'm sure both sides could justify the big signing by the Padres claiming this is one part of a grand 5-year plan to finally have the "turn our great farm system into a top level major league team" method actually work for them this time, instead of always being 'the bad team with good future potential, technically'. And in theory that would be more likely to achieve with an established top guy like Machado then... without him. I'm guessing their 5-year plan is build up the rest of the team with the young inexpensive minor league talent and this time 5 years from now they'll be ready to at least contend multiple times over the next 5 seasons. Thus, Machado would be playing on a championship contending team, AND make tons of money doing it. As for the college basketball ticket prices? Yeah, does sound like a lot, though I've never really been personally interested in college sports. But I do know that UNC v Duke is more or less the top rivalry in D-1 Men's Basketball, and this year has the added bonus of that great Zion player.

spiderfab4 Duke's home arena has less than 10,000 seats compared to many division 1 arenas that may have 15,000 seats. The Kohl Center in Wisconsin where the Badgers play has like 17,000 seats for example. So I'm sure Duke's small venue only added to the ticket prices. If it had 17,000 seats, ticket prices wouldn't be so much, even if you factor in the scope of the rivalry or the presence of Zion Williamson.

Zion Williamson just injured his knee with his shoe blowing out. That could have some major long term ramifications.
Duke goes down, badly, Barrett and Reddish probably lost some draft value here, and I really hope that Williamson isn't badly injured, he's one of the most exciting prospects to come through in years.

It's crazy that some people paid $10k to attend tonight's UNC-Duke basketball game, largely to see the first of two appearances of Duke's Zion Williamson against arch rival North Carolina.....only for the unthinkable to happen and see Williamson get injured on a freak occurrence in the first 40 seconds of the game.

Wow, you never want to see something like that. A guy with his whole NBA career and life ahead of him having this freak injury happen and on this huge stage. I haven't watched him play other than marking out at a video of him from a week ago where he basically jumped to and across the moon to block a shot. And I don't know much about him other than that he's THE man on the college level right now but damn, I feel for the guy. Knee injuries can haunt and hinder someone's potential. He was shaping up to be the #1 draft pick and now there's going to be a huge asterisk on anyone considering choosing him.
And what the hell happened with that sneaker? I've never seen something like that happen before. Looked like some primal force of the universe destroyed it from the inside out.

I have never seen a sneaker do that before. That is nuts. I hope he's okay. That was gnarly as hell.

I saw the video on Zion's injury. All I can say is, damn.
But as long as it is not a career ender, he's a sure #1 overall pick and at the very least, a lottery pick for sure.
Teams have drafted injured players as a lottery pick before as a project if they think the player has plenty of upside.
I believe the Sixers did this with Nerlens Noel and also with Ben Simmons. Wasn't Simmons hurt too coming out of college?

Yeah, the preliminary diagnosis is a "mild knee sprain" but that's before MRIs and all of that. Here's hoping that a sprain is all it is though as Tim just mentioned, nothing short of complete catastrophe would dramatically effect his draft stock.
The 76ers actually had 2 top 5 picks in a row that were coming off of major injuries in college (Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid) while their next top pick (Ben Simmons) suffered a season-ending injury in practice about a month after being drafted. Each of them missed their technical rookie year (in the NBA, you aren't officially a rookie until you log a minute in a regular season NBA game) and each of them have returned and become dynamic forces in the league (Noel isn't the MVP player that Embiid is or the pace-controlling star that Simmons is but he's a pretty damn good defensive stopper which has always been his hat).
Just last year, the Denver Nuggets took Michael Porter Jr with the last lottery pick despite him having had TWO back surgeries in the previous 10 months. They figured that his potential as the #1 high school player in his class was worth the risk that he'll have to miss his first year and may never be the player that he was before. He's not playing this year so only time will tell if he returns to the form that had scouts going crazy about him 2 short years ago but he's still proof that teams will wait on you to heal if you're talented enough. (as for why Porter fell so far, he only played a combined 50 minutes over 3 games, with all but a minute of that time coming in the last 2 games of Mizzou's season, which he appeared in after rushing back from his first surgery)
So yeah, NBA-wise, Zion will probably be okay.

AFL pre-season stars tonight :D
AFL X it is called haha it is a faster paced version of AFL basically to give the rookies a run, and to also play in unusual afl stadiums for example they played in Blacktown last year
Blacktown is a town about 20-30 km north of Sydney.
They even played near Aspley and I thing Darwin.
Though this year it is going to be played at Mars Stadium which is a main team's stadium ?? like why?? I thought they would only play at Rookie / Local clubs again.

All kidding aside, the known details of that story are sickening. Prostitution is something that will always exist. Sex slavery is an abomination and among the most common examples of inhumanity in the world. It needs to stop.
