Today's my birthday and I've been thinking back to a present I got on a previous birthday, Baldur's Gate. I've never actually gotten to play it. I first got it when it was new but I wasn't used to checking recommended specs on games because every computer game I'd tried so far had worked, so this was the first time I ran into one that didn't. A few years later we got a newer computer and I tried it again. This time it actually worked! I watch the intro, I create my character and... the game crashes. Oh well. It would be another few years before we changed computers again so, in the interim, I let my best friend borrow it. After getting it back I try to install it only for the installer to stall out part way through due to my friend not exactly being the best at taking care of things. Alas. I could probably just get the disc cleaned or, at this point, I could probably rebuy a digital download off of GOG or something, but I haven't had the patience for an RPG in some years. And that's my experience with Baldur's Gate, a present I got when I turned 15 where all I could do with it was read the manual. Happy Birthday!! Hope it's a great one! π I've never played Baldur's Gate and I don't know much about it. So in my mind for now on I will associate the Gate as some kind of rite of passage that players get to eventually walk through after being teased by playing it for decades. Your story is like a QUEST. You need to play it one day β I think I need to know in my own life that one day you actually get to play this! π On the plus side, it was probably an awesome manual back in the day when manuals were like small novels. I still remember being blown away by the Final Fantasy VI manual and didn't dare playing the game until I read it.

Oh yeah, the manual was a great read. I just feel kinda bad that my parents essentially shelled out $50 (or whatever it was back then) for it.
Then again, it is a D&D product.
But yeah, even though I have a lot of experience with trying to learn games without a manual, that's one thing I miss with the way gaming has changed over the years. Some of those old manuals are fun to reread for the way they expand the world beyond the technical limits of the time.
No joke, two of my favorite manuals are for the Barkley: Shut Up And Jam games. It makes the players so colorful and even offers advice on who should team with who (in the first one), which would be useful if I actually enjoyed playing them.
The player bio I remember best goes something like: "Ever notice how a freight train seems to be barely moving even when it's going 40 MPH? I think you know what I'm saying."
(Also, thank you for the birthday well-wishing.)

Some of those old manuals are fun to reread for the way they expand the world beyond the technical limits of the time. I completely agree!! The visuals and the text really expanded the imagination for the game. I remember so many awesome PC game instruction books from the late 80's/early 90's. Those manuals plus the box art gave me such excitement to play the game and allowed me to already start envisioning the world before even turning it on. The immersive factor is amazing and they also did a great job of giving you the feel without any spoilers. The player bio I remember best goes something like: "Ever notice how a freight train seems to be barely moving even when it's going 40 MPH? I think you know what I'm saying." I think what it's saying is that it wants us to solve a math problem about trains going 40 mph! π’ (Also, thank you for the birthday well-wishing.) You're very welcome! πππ

Lol
I shudder to think about what other "experiments" this leak will uncover

Leaked image suggests PS5 may support customizable snap on / snap off cover plates.

Out of curiosity I was looking at everyone's rivals in No Mercy again and saw a few things that seemed odd.
-Too Cool and Edge & Christian are each other's top rivals. I don't remember that feud but then E&C VS The Hardyz did overshadow it in my mind.
-Unlike other teams, Faarooq and Bradshaw don't accompany each other.
-D'Lo specifically has The Goodfather as a rival instead of The Godfather but that seems to be a side effect of the game making most rivals use their fourth outfit.
-An exception to that is The Kat, who has Hebner and Finkel as two of her rivals. They're the first and second outfits on the same character slot. That said, I don't remember why she would have either one as a run-in.
-For some reason Ho has Crash as her only rival.

I wonder if that's not left over from a team that may have been like that in one of the WCW/NWO or VPW games. Like there's a certain bit that's shared by all of them and rather than change just that one piece, they just rolled with it since it's the only thing that it effects. *shrug*
2. The only interaction between the Kat and Hebner that I can think of is him pulling her off another woman as she thrashed about but even then, it might have been another referee. Perhaps Virtual Kat resented him grabbing her like that. Either that or he sold her some hot merch that wasn't worth the cash she paid xD
3. You know what, I'm just going to accept this. That 24/7 Hardcore belt created many an unlikely rivalry! xD

I just looked at WM2K for comparison and they accompany each other there. I also seem to remember noticing other holdovers from that game that didn't get updated for No Mercy (e.g., D'Lo's running power bomb). I think most likely it was something they accidentally changed and then overlooked. On the other hand, it's weird that they both ended up like that in that case. So, I dunno. I also noticed Faarooq was spelled with one A in that game, for whatever that's worth. 2. But yeah, much has been said about how weird her moveset is so maybe I should just take her rivals as the least weird thing about her. 3. You know what, I'm just going to accept this. That 24/7 Hardcore belt created many an unlikely rivalry! xD I probably should too because I forgot that one of the Godfather's hos did briefly win the title on actual programming.

I knew it, NESTS was behind all the coffee shop clones of the past 20 years!!
I thought it was suspicious when Circle K' revealed their "Kriza-lid" technology to keep coffee hot π

So here's something unexpected.
I decided to delete a CAW a friend of mine made on my copy of No Mercy because he's not around anymore and I really did not like this character. When I looked at my champions, though, he was still there on any titles he held.
And I mean, I turned the game off and back on afterwards and he was still there.
Which surprised me because I could've sworn it went to a null champion with The Rock's portrait if you did something like that. I mean, I'm pretty sure I'd done that before anyway.
But yeah, apparently, when you delete a CAW through the Data menu, it still retains all of the previous settings on that slot until you make a new CAW over it. In effect, it's more like disabling the selection slot until you make a new one.
So, to completely get rid of him I either had to make a new CAW (maybe later) or crown four new champions. Because of course he gave him four titles. Even the Light Heavyweight and Women's titles despite being neither.

Anyone here try last of us part two yet? The game site review numbers have been awesome, but a lot of them spend a good deal of time either talking about how progressive the games themes are or bitching about them, but not a lot about gameplay. I loved the first game, if it feels like more of the same to anyone here who has tried it, please let me know! I canβt see naughty dog dropping the ball in terms of gameplay or story, but I just need some gut reactions from gamers, not huge love letters or hate mail to wade through just to find out if kicking mushroom zombie ass is as much fun and as freaky as it was the first time around! Thanks in advance! π
