Got a video game thing that used to bug me and that I've been thinking about again, but I couldn't find a better thread for it. I thought about starting a spinoff catch-all thread in the gaming area over it but it doesn't feel like it's worth being the thread starter either. Still... I say go for the new thread! If not, you'll be cursed......cursed! So it was written, so it shall come to pass. So yeah, here's a thread for all of your video gaming posts that don't deserve their own thread.

You know, I'm still kind of sore that Dynasty Warriors 9 was met with so much rejection by many other longtime fans of the series. It certainly isn't perfect but I really loved their attempt at making an open world game in lieu of the same pre-rendered maps we'd seen game in/game out across dozens of games over 15 years. Dynasty Warriors 9 is truly different from anything else in the Warriors/Musou franchise and I don't think that's a bad thing in and of itself, as so many would seem to believe.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is truly different from anything else in the Warriors/Musou franchise and I don't think that's a bad thing in and of itself, as so many would seem to believe. Fans want that same, familiar, comfy blankie that they know and love, and critics hate everything allowing them to write long, drawn out, verbose bullshit, proving how smart they are to the faceless masses. I was reading kotaku’s review of Days Gone after noticing it’s on discount as part of the PS4 holiday sale. Nth wrote some cool stuff about the game a while back that got me interested, I figured I’d read up a bit more about the game. I don’t feel like I learned anything about Days Gone, but what I did learn is someone out there is getting paid not to review games on a gaming website, but to let us all know that games keep using the same tired old ideas, that they don’t move us with their stories, and that we’re not forced to look inside and grapple with our morals over the actions of the protagonist. Also, isn’t this reviewer edgy and well educated? When did reviewing a game become about the reviewer? Do they care if games are fun anymore? Could it be possible that consumers occasionally might just want to mash A/X simply to fuck up mindless hordes of freakers/bad guys with as much firepower as possible to blow off some steam as a release from their soul crushing jobs and daily responsibilities WITHOUT learning something about social inequality or inclusiveness or other important human issues? Could it be possible for reviewers to use the PRIVILEGE of a public platform and a FREE copy of a new game provided by the publisher to let consumers thinking about dropping $70 plus and hours of their free time on a game whether or not it is even FUN and worth the investment rather than pushing their personal agendas? Can you imagine how ridiculous all of that uppity bullshit would sound reviewing something like Pac-Man, super dodge ball, or dig dug? I’m glad you like the new Dynasty Warriors, screw all the sad sack shitheads who don’t like it, I’m just happy someone actually likes something!

This was one of the things that put me off reading reviews, I tend to stick to more video reviews where you see them play the game so you can get a better feel for it. I find it is much easier if you have a friend who is into similar games so you can ask them if they get it first or even have a go at it. Plus I've found that a lot of the time, reviewers take too long to get to their point and I've moved on to try and find something more direct. It's almost like they want a blog rather than to review. *Ends with cranky old man fist waving*

It's almost like they want a blog rather than to review. *Ends with cranky old man fist waving* What I've always say about reviews is the score doesn't really matter other than a general feeling the person who made it had. I always suggest finding some reviewers you tend to agree with most of what they have to say whether it's written or video. Reviews are subjective they can't really be objective so just find the people that think the most like you to know if you might like something. Checking out videos with gameplay is important also. For me I found a website a few years ago where the group's mix of opinions were not too far off from mine. I got to know what each liked and didn't like and learned more about what I liked so I could take what they say, which has gone almost entirely to podcasts as reviews are very rare from them now, and the watch one of their quicklook videos to get an idea of the gameplay and I would then know if a game sounded interesting to me or not. I have since expanded to the number of people I listen to talk about games and it has helped to have more perspectives

Intellivision was my introduction into gaming. I'm excited to see what they do with some of the other games I used to play. Especially Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.

Still have my original console and most of the games that came out for it. I will be pre-ordering a founders edition Amico when they start taking orders in a few days. I mentioned Tron Deadly Disks and multiplayer to Tommy Tallarico on twitter and he gave me a like. A lot of the original games are supposed be released in both their classic original format and new modern day update. Even that Night Stalker footage is a year old and the dev commented on twitter they've enhanced the visuals even more.

I could not for the life of me, nostalgia aside, figure out why anyone would be excited to play old intelevision games. Somehow until Nth’s last post I managed to miss the fact that all of these classics have remasters! All of this stuff looks incredible, and has a real Housemarque look to it. Now I am paying attention. I wonder if any of the original developers are involved in the remasters, and can have a chance to more fully express what they wanted to do in the original projects?
As an aside, as a kid, I found a bankers box with an intelevision and most of the games that were released for it. My friend and I found an old tv and hooked it up, the damned thing worked like a charm! It was so odd, the controllers had game specific plastic inserts to cover the keypads and stuff, pretty creative shit if you think back to what they had to work with when those things came out! I had the game with the little bunker in the middle from a couple of posts back, and lots of others!

Just got my preorder email for the Amico Founders Edition.
Yes, quite a number of surviving Blue Sky Rangers have been working on games for the new system.

I thought about getting a woodgrain version, but I kind of like the look of the black version better.

So 1000 of the founders edition Amico's sold in ten minutes and the rest of the 2600 sold in less than twenty four hours. I actually wasn't expecting that.
