Can someone explain the appeal of Tool to me? I've never really gotten it. I mean, I like a few of their songs but people just seem to go nuts for them.

People really appreciate their progressive and technical approach to hard rock/metal. They are very much a musician's band because of it but they also appeal to others because of their song themes, structure/songwriting, and overall influence on the rock/metal scene in general.
It's particularly appealing this year because after 4-5 years of teasing, they are releasing their first new album since 2006.
I just hope their notoriously toxic fanbase doesn't ruin it. Maynard is heavily idolized and it can be a double-edged sword. I wouldn't be surprised if it factors into delays in music production from him regardless of the project. He already doesn't interact hardly at all with fans in part because of that.

New album out by Drab Majesty for those that are interested. It's pretty darn good. :)

And now I see Leprous has released a new single a new album release date the same day as Fear Inoculum. I'm crying right now.
What did I do to deserve all of this prog rock goodness this year?

So is it just me or is anyone else surprised that Puddle of Mudd put out a new song? On a lighter note, go check out The Kimberly Steaks. They've been described as like Insomniac-era Green Day except Scottish, but it's more fun than it sounds. I made it most of the way through one of their albums on the way to work, and that's only a 15 minute trip. thekimberlysteaks.bandcamp.com

You've gotta love hype. There's a concert coming up here that's being sold as featuring "the biggest bands of the 90s." Except, both of the bands on the bill can basically be called one-hit wonders. To be fair, I still hear one of them (Eve 6) pretty regularly but the other (Tonic) I haven't heard since the 90s.
