All right, let's get the show on the road.
First off, Zealot asked me to run the March Madness for the women and I have accepted. I agree with Zealot that this year's tournament is all about balance. Thankfully last year, we didn't have the issues with hoss edits in the women's as we did with the men's though some edits did seem to be a bit OP though they ended up not being a factor in late tournament.
Last year's tournament otherwise was a great tournament, won by Firehawk's Anahera edit. Last year's tournament can be seen in its entirety at www.twitch.tv/timberwolf906/manager/edit/238581814
As you can see, I changed my user ID on Twitch. So if you had my old URL of Todd300 bookmarked, delete that and replace it with Timberwolf906.
Before I take over the women's signups from Zealot, let's discuss a few issues.
Mods – I've yet to install the mod pack, but it's on my to-do list and I plan to do it within the week. I plan on using the mod pack to run the tournament. What mods I'll be using, I've yet to decide. I need to look at the pack and its options yet.
But one mod I'll use for sure is Freecam for the camera angles. I, however, will not be using a camera AI. I do not want a Kevin Dunn style camera direction in the tournament. I'll control the angles myself with the hotkeys as the tournament progresses.
I'll announce what mods I'll use for the tournament within the week or so.
Edits – Since this is a women's tournament, edit guidelines may be a bit different from the men's. The typical women's wrestler is like 5' to 5'5” or so. Rarely do we see a big girl like Nia Jax or a tall girl like Charlotte Flair.
With that said, the size for a female edit ideally should be F or S. If you MUST submit a M sized edit, give me a reason why. Make sure the edit's size has some weakness to give it some balance. For example, low leg endurance., the breathing can be bad, etc, or any other weakness that can offset the edit's size to balance it out.
Most edits are designed to work with the handler's own roster. They are not usually designed to work with someone else's edits. Keep that in mind when you submit a edit that may work well with your roster, but it may not work well with other edits in the tournament.
Like the men's, there is a 200 point limit. But please spread out the points as well as move types. For example, say you got a high flyer who may only have 150 points total, but have 8 points in agility. If the edit has pretty much every move in her moveset that has agility as the top attribute, she might as well be a hoss, even at 150 points total. So please spread out the moveset, distributing different attributes.
Same goes for logic. Don't be spamming finishers at 25%. Be realistic. Spread out your logic as well. I'll be happy to work with you if logic is not your strong suit. It can be tough to grasp for a newbie. Oh, and no random pins either. I don't wanna see 5% pins in large damage. 1% flash pins might be ok if it fits that edit's style like a La Magistral for a technical edit. But otherwise no random pins in the logic.
DLC's and modded edits – I have the NJPW and Takayama DLC's. Depending on if Fire Promoter offers new moves and parts, I'll be getting that too. So if anyone is concerned about submitting an edit with DLC moves or parts and wondering if I have the DLC's or not, don't worry :) I'm good to go there.
However, I cannot accept edits with custom moves and custom parts. I ran into that problem last year with a modded edit freezing up the game. I don't want to go through that again.
Balance – Let's talk about balance in more detail. I would like to see some good competitive matches. The point of this tournament is to see how different edits work together to put on a good match. If your edit loses in a 5 star match, you still gotta feel good about that. There is no shame in losing a match if your edit brings everything to the table.
As Zealot said, CRITICAL! Skill should be FINISHER ONLY to prevent cheap finishes. Special skills like Hardbody and Guts will also be excluded. Certain fight and return styles like Panther will also be reviewed. Ignore this rule if your entry is for Hoss Madness.
Match settings – No countouts to avoid double eliminations in a double countout. DQ's will be on though. I'm considering using the weapons mod in which an edit can pick up a weapon in the ring, get a 5 count started against her, and risk being DQ'ed. But that is not set in stone yet. I need to experiment with this myself.
The arena will be the SCS arena. If anyone wants to help me make custom arena textures with a St. Pat's Day theme, send me a pm. I've yet to learn how to make arena textures yet.
I don't know if I want Beth Murphy to return as the referee this year. She was, shall I say, a bit careless last year with the men's referee, Conor McRefer :P
All kidding aside, the referee settings will be announced within the week or so. I'll have two refs working the tournament.
Seeding and brackets – Like last year, I'll run a quick round robin league to determine seeding for the tournament. I will also try to place edits in certain brackets, depending on where the handler is from, so the handler still has a chance to see his/her edit in action in the first round. The stream would begin at 7pm Central at a date to be determined. So I would sim edits whose handlers are on the east coast first. I'll end the first round with matches involving handlers from the west coast. As for you overseas players such as Australia and Europe, I'm sorry, but nothing much I can do there, but the tournament will be on demand so you can still catch it and I'll make sure results and comments are in spoiler tags following the event.
With that said, sign ups may begin :)
