This is a general question for everyone here, where do you get your gaming news? My go-tos have been IGN, kotaku, polygon, and stuff like that. I’m noticing that over the past year or so, polygon and kotaku have become largely opinion pieces and stuff like that. I enjoy some of it and it is important, but I read game sites for game news, sometimes I don’t want to be beaten over the head with human rights pieces and I don’t think you should have to dig through that stuff to find game news on game sites, I just want to find out what’s coming down the pipe game wise or get cool developer stories. Can anyone suggest some objective and focused gaming news sites? Thanks in advance!

Twitter; following the devs of games I'm interested in directly, or often times they will put up a twitter account for a specific game to follow and get news from. It's really the only reason I use twitter. Hell, just following Bend Studio on twitter, they've been recently putting up old archived Syphon Filter content out of the blue, leading to a lot of speculation that series may be in for a revival at some point. Twitter is the place to get breaking news, even before the games journo community, who often just follow the same twitter accounts of devs and report on what is going up on twitter.
IGN, Kotaku, Polygon and Gamespot have become shadows of what they formerly were. Rumor is Polygon and Kotaku are on the brink of getting absorbed into something else because they won't focus on games without some political or social justice addendum shoehorned into a preview or review and IGN has gone full blown activist. And Greg Miller is insufferable; that doesn't really relate to anything, but it needs to be said frequently and often.

Hmm, yeah, there have been times I’ve read reviews at the two sites I mentioned and forgotten that I’m reading a game review half way through. Sometimes they’re brilliant, but more often than they should, it seems they forget people go there for news about the actual game (ie story, gameplay, art style, graphics, etc…). I guess it’s hard to avoid getting all grand-standy when you’re given a platform, but it would be nice to just read about the game you’re interested in, and not about who is / should be offended because of this or that abstract interpretation of some aspect of the game, or because of some social media post someone in the development team made as an angry, confused teenager back when they were using the gamer tag 420darksniper69… 🙂

I don't have any use for IGN, Kotaku, Polygon or Gamespot, and haven't for a long while. I prefer more focused, less blatantly corporatized sites like Operation Sports or Eventhubs for my info, or I'll just trawl Steam or random youtube videos to get a sense for what's coming up. I just don't have any patience for the massive ego trips and obvious shilling that goes on with the big gaming sites. A nice word of mouth recommendation from the grassroots community goes much further than any page full of palm framed awards or manufactured quotes goes.

Thanks, I seriously thought I was just becoming a miserable curmudgeon or something. It’s nice to hear this is a thing, not just my interpretation. The game site reviews are feeling a bit like recipes these days, you know, when you want to find a good technique for making hard boiled eggs and end up reading about someone’s inspirational trip to Nepal and their entire educational history and all of that bullshit, then, at the four or five thousand word mark, a recipe materializes? You know what I'm talking about?!
Thanks again, I don’t do any social media, but I’ll check those two other things mentioned. 🙂

With the leak of Chrono Cross Remastered pretty much being confirmed, it seems likely now that the other games on that leak list including Final Fantasy Tactics may be in the works.
Nice new in depth preview of Dying Light 2

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 announced. Glad they are bringing this back. It was originally planned to be a trilogy under THQ 11 years ago; but then they went under and it seemed like all hope died with it.

I was happy to see this trailer yesterday, I loved the original game and was disappointed they never did anything more with it. The actual gameplay near the end of the trailer looks great. If I can ever get my hands on one of these next gen consoles that supposedly exist, I’ll have to try this game!

It looks like we're playing the same character Titus from the first game although from the look of his new armor he has 'Crossed the Rubicon'. The transformation process in which a First Born Astartes undergoes the augmentation into becoming one of the Primaris marines. Something that is very new in the 40k lore to coincide with the return of Primarch Roboute Guilliman. If a first born survives the augmentation, which is about 50/50, they become Rubicon Primaris Marines. It also looks like this game will be set a few hundred years after the first one since we see Titus now has 4 gold service studs above his eye when he takes off his helmet. I believe a single gold service stud represents a hundred years of service and he didn't have them in the first game. We also get a glimpse of the new Bolter Rifle only Primaris marines get in action which I am excited for.
RedOut 2 also announced

Resident Evil: Revisited is an upcoming fan mod for Resident Evil that is a prequel taking place just after the initial outbreak in the Arklay mansion. Don't know if I'll go through the process of trying to figure out how to play mods for this, but I remember playing the original game wondering what the initial outbreak in the Arklay mansion would have been like.
