Because a lot of great games were only released in Japan, and a lot of us only live in America (or otherwise not Japan) and may be looking for options to play some of those Japan games cheaper than buying a, NTSC-J version of that same video game console. I was considering buying some Japan-only N64 games. I hear they can play in a U.S. system, they somehow need to actually fit it in. I do own a Game Shark Pro for the N64: In theory, a Japan cartridge would definitely fit in that top part, and the GS into the N64. But would that work? Would the game be recognized by the actual console? Has anyone here actually tried that exact thing?

Easier to either cut out the N64 dust guard blocks, or simply swap the back of the Japanese cartridge with a US one and it will fit fine, and cost nothing. When I got virtual pro wrestling 2 I used a lighter, a knife and a pair of pliers and melted down and pulled out the little blocks on the N64 dust guard that prevents Japanese games from sliding properly into North American systems. Took ten minutes.
You can also just grind the cartridge slots if you don't have the proper screwdriver.

You can also remove the whole dust-cover assembly entirely, just keep a cartridge in there to prevent dirt or anything getting in.
But yeah, there's no software lockout whatsoever, the games run perfectly fine as long as they physically go in.

And shit, somehow every single one of us missed you saying that you already own the gameshark.
Yeah, just stick the japanese game onto that. Although if a probably-twenty-year-old gameshark doesn't work anymore, you could still use the other methods, lol.

As Ares said last post, simply place the JPN game over the GameShark, and it'll work.
I have and am able to play my Jikkyou J.League Perfect Striker and SD Hiryu no Ken Densetsu with it.
Alright, I have a Sensible Soccer game for the Genesis/Master Drive. It's European, so I can't play it on my Yobo FC3. Should I just get a Retron 5, or are there other options available to consider?

Not only was all the N64 stuff technically made 2 decades ago, it had also been about 5 years or so since I had turned on any of my personal collection of games or even my console. I plugged it in about a month ago, and it took a few days to work out the kinks & hiccups and 'warm up' but now the console and all the games work fine. Yes, indeed the GameShark worked, as 1 of the 4 Japanese N64 games I ordered off eBay came today, and it worked flawlessly. (I felt safe in ordering them all ahead of time, since I noticed that the GameShark Pro 3.2 did have the region tabs spaced double wide, I assumed that was done so that it would work in both U.S. and Japan systems.)
