So I made it to the finals of the Lion's cup, and have to fight Kitamura. The problem is the dude won't let me do any work! He's squashed me within 7minutes twice now. He just won't let me get any offense in. Am I supposed to lose this one?

Well tried 3 more times, and he destroyed me everytime. I watched some streamer do it, and he beat Kitamura handily. So I don't know what I'm doing wrong. He just wins every grapple. I'm on easy, and I haven't had this hard a time grappling someone so far.

Interesting... if I recall I did beat Kitamura then. But I've jobbed many times, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. One particular loss was difficult for me... but I did not retry! The story should carry on regardless. I say just accept the loss and move on!

I mean I could, but I don't feel like I learned anything if I just give up.
Maybe it's that I changed my fight style to power?

I mean I could, but I don't feel like I learned anything if I just give up. Maybe it's that I changed my fight style to power? Long time player before simming - it’s all down to damage done and grapples won. Are you PC or PS4? I’m on PC and it’s bedn treating me fine in Normal. Check an exhibition match to see if something with the timing is off.

I just had the same match with my Power style guy, but didn't notice a difference in difficulty. On Normal, and I almost only sim, so probably would have noticed a spike.
If you look at match options before starting it, you can see difficulty level automatically set. Everything up to that tourney final was 2, but that final fight goes up to 3. That shouldn't be this auto grapple win thing that's happening, maybe something is up with your game. It's rebelling.

Well, I barely know the controls beyond what it shows in the controller setup. Still, it doesn't really seem to matter what I do. I've spent the entire match just trying to get off my basic weak attack and this guy shuts me out (see video). I called him Goldberg, and he even finishes me with the Jackhammer. I really do not want to give up a win to this douche.
I just wish I knew what happened. I've had a fairly pleasant time so far (despite failing the two tag-team matches despite winning), but this guy takes the cake.

I failed those two tag matches also, guess didn't use weapons enough or something, wasn't too clear what I needed to do.
Check what the difficulty level is before you start the match. If it's in fact 3 you'll probably be able to catch up to it pretty quickly with a little practice in exhibition mode to get your timing down.
Try not touching any input, including d-pad, during the grapple commencement, and only input your attack as soon as their arms meet and you hear the sound of their feet stamping. It'll feel natural soon enough.

I finally beat him! I basically had to wait until I put my hands on his shoulder and I was able to win the grapple. It's a good thing I learned that too, because Blood Angel is almost as bad. I got trounced by him the first time through, then did better the second time, but he did a douchey thing where he beat me out side of the ring until the 18 count, and I couldn't make it back in in time.
I guess I'll have to practice the grapple timing.

Since I've started fighting road, I've always accepted my losses. I like that the story keeps going no matter what.

I can understand that, but my problem is I'm still unfamiliar with the controls/timing. If I can fight and put on a decent match I'll take a loss, but if it's a match like above where I spend 10 minutes getting Goldberg'd then I feel like I need to address that problem. Then after I beat them, lock the Nagata Lock on them a couple of times.

That could have been fun actually, your first Fighting Road guy tracking your own experience as totally new to the system, starting off bad and losing and having the story take you where it will. Then as you learn and get better, your character improves and starts winning, story shifts. Probably would be more unique than most people who are more experienced playing and maybe never losing, unless on purpose but that's different.

I mean I guess, but I think the game is done taking it easy on me. It's gotten really strict with the timing. I'm really starting to think about going back to mission mode and doing that mission over again.
I guess I could make my character in the offline editor so I can use him in exhibition matches until I get good with the system. Seems like a lot of work though.
