Yeah, I had one match with the default Red Shoes, and never again. SOOOOO painfully slow; as you say, impossible to get a pinfall in the lower half of the ring. Add to that that the NJ defaults do the R-trigger headlock way less often than most of my guys, so the wrestlers aren't correcting the issue themselves either.
Definitely, as OG said, look at Wonderlands ref setup. I vary from it for different guys, but that's my "default." Combine that with keeping the headlock drag somewhere near 10 percent in large damage, and I have this problem way less often than in past games.

I just wanted to reiterate the importance of having a ref with fast movement and fast or medium-fast count speed. Anything slower and you run the risk of artificially inflated match times.

And I don't care about the times per se, but it drives me nuts when I know 100% that a guy is gonna kick out of something SOLELY because the ref is in another time zone. Feels like he's not doing his damn job.

I don't mind slow refs for main events. Yes, it does artificially pad the time, but sometimes it makes for really good matches.
