I have a real desire to play the old AKI games like Revenge and Virtual Pro Wrestling but I know I can’t go back and play them on the N64, which I do still own. It’s just too clumsy and rough to look at.
The nostalgia factor would be incredible too.
I was thinking how amazing that game engine would be today with modern graphics. If I had the money I’d try to fund that.
Man 2k graphics and presentation but with AKI mechanics? I can dream.

I wish KOC would be remade but know it won't. I've tried on my emulator to do the old AKI games but man it's just too hard today. My one and only gripe I have with FPW is the hit detection. I like to throw a few strikes in and it's just so hard to hit. Also when I run my ECW matches I can't hit with a weapon to save my life. Otherwise I enjoy the hell out of it. Smackdown vs Raw 06/07/08 all hold up decently game play wise.
2k in my opinion has come a long way the last few years with gameplay. Last year I put more hours than I ever have into a 2k game and felt more entertained than frustrated. Usually I'd be more bitter than anything playing their games. I wish the kick out and submission mechanic had a trainer/tutorial to practice with a bit more because they were tricky at first and gave me some frustration early.
My wish is to have a game that looks like 2k, customization like FPW, depth like TEW, and plays like a hybrid of KOC/AKI. If I ever hit the powerball, I'd maybe have to spend some money developing that. I'm sure a few thousand people would enjoy it. lol

KOC if only for the fact I've never been able to find that game, so I have yet to play it, it looks awesome!

I'd still like to see an AKI made NES pro wrestling reboot. Keep the original guys, add a few, give it a bit of a cell shaded look or something, some over the top finishers, I think it could be a lot of fun. Either an AKI made NES Pro Wrestling, or, what I'm ACTUALLY hoping will get some kind of reboot, KINNIKUMAN! I loved the Anime, the Manga, the old, peach coloured static figures back in the day, I love the whole thing, and it has all but VANISHED off of the radar in North America. This would be a PERFECT one to reboot, it had the AKI gameplay most of us revere, but with an AWESOME art style, over the top gameplay and amazing, cinematic finishers. I love this series, and the games are great! Love to see a reboot! Such odd characters, I miss this shit...

How big are the chances of those old AKI games getting re-released on Steam? Asking because I saw Turok 2 doing pretty well on Steam and seen a lot of YouTube comments asking for this. These games still have a big nostalgia following. It could be pretty cool if they rereleased them and used the chance to add some new content.

I still love popping in any N64 AKI game. Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy, Virtual Pro 2. I use to do the emulator with No Mercy all the time. Still fun.

It's been 8 years since Yakuza PSP and most of Syn Sophia's success has been limited to Style Savvy.

To re-release an AKI game, they'd have to license WWF and/or WCW and probably wind up paying every one of the guys who were licensed to appear in those games on top of probably having to pay AKI for their engine. At that point, you're not breaking even and almost certainly not making a profit.

Vince owns the relevant properties and Take-Two (via THQ) should have the relevant publishing rights. I'm not even sure they would necessarily even need Syn Sophia involved for the theoretical "they'll have to remove that one Canadian guy."
Not much impact on the current roster compensation wise.

I mean there's also the whole 'paying the guys whose likenesses are used in the game which would probably kill any chance of making money off of these' thing but okay yeah benoit's the only hurdle there.

Likeness falls under IP and is owned by the company.
Let me put it this way- Jeff is the only active guy that would benefit from this and if you give certain places any credibility he's just outside the top 10 as far as compensation. The rest are essentially part timers and/or have other roles in the company like HHH and Angle.
expanding to WM2000 gets you Big Show, who allegedly has a very no-frills deal particularly for somebody with his tenure. But again, this is from the same holy writers that can't parse "x years, x amount toal" which led to the thought that Rosa Mendes made more than HHH and Cena.

IP and individual likeness are separate (its why you can make and NBA game but have to still haggle with the players union to get the players in it). Its true that all current WWE (and a handful of legends) signs video game clauses to allow WWE to provide said likeness in exchange for a piece of the profits, but some negotiate directly with 2K (Sting, Goldberg, Warrior all signed video game deals independent of WWE).
All that's to say to actually obtain the rights would be way too much for a small publisher, and not make any sense for 2k given they already have a game (and probably own some kind of console exclusivity).

The actual talent contract breaks things down into Booking Works IP Merchandise- including books, animation and video games
and has been standard for quite some time. I would say definitely by the Monday Night Wars if not earlier.
The Nostalgia Contractor Agreement (aka the "Legends deal") is much murkier.
WCW had separate independent and merchandise contracts but they were coterminous. That was noted with Bagwell's suit against the WWE Network.
2K might have considerable leeway--they did negotiate with Punk to keep him in, after all--but I doubt they make any of those offers without knowledge that WWE was trying to get Warrior/Sting/Goldberg in the HOF etc. It also wouldn't surprise me if 2K is more direct so as not to have the same problems as the THQ deal did for both WWE and Yukes.
What I find more interesting is if a re-release extends "commercial life."

The KoC games are never going to be remade or have a next-gen KoC 3. I really think Spike is done with wrestling games after how poorly World has sold.
