I tend to put grapple finishers in the (SML)+(MID)/[] +X slot, because I feel a finisher should be a special button (like the AKI games) but I know Spike usually uses the O+ Down position, which I think is lame.
Is there a reason they do it? Am I screwing with some hidden logic in unaware of? Should I go back and correct all my work?
Halp!

The difference between the two positions is that moves from the O position cause the opponent to stand up groggy where the [] + X move causes them to stay down for a long time.

If you have a 100% pin/sub prio, then O is long enough to pin. They dont hop up THAT fast.
It's more for if you prio literally anything else.
Standing Dives? O
Downed Dives? []+X
Stuff like that.

Doesn't []+X cause more damage as well?

I tend to always put the "Finisher" in [ ] + X. Only case where I won't is if I need a move in that slot to keep someone down for a Priority, like Kenny's Canadian Buster > Springboard Moonsault.

I think it's just their own move spot logic. I like putting it on the harder spot of the two buttons also.
BUT if they have some unique Submission grapple I will sometimes put it in that spot instead.

This is basically what I do, too. If they have a top rope, I make it a setup move (though usually its big enough to potentially have a pin attempt set if they cant make the dive). Otherwise the actual finish is likely in that spot.

I normally set the finisher to [] + X unless the move already ends in a pin, then I'll set it to Down + O. That way I don't waste the spot that can lead to a downed diving move or running downed attack.

Wasn’t!t this because a lot of guys had their regular finish along with a rare big damage move they’d only pull out for some big matches? Like Kobashi using Orange Crush most of the time, but pulling out the Burning Hammer when he needed it. Maybe that could have been a 3 button finish.

Yeah I think Kobashi just had a brainbuster as a finish, but then had the Hammer in the big spot. Then Misawa having the tiger driver 91 in his big spot. They usualy had finisher on the move that usually ended their match, but still had the big moves as just signature. Even though it's the stronger move kayfabe.

I'd love to replicate the aki engines ai, but ppl here still are confused as to why. just chiming in seeing you were talking about the aki games OP.
Also should we get a cpu logic mega thread going on id love to quickly come in with some minor questions here and there.

Like others have already said, If an edit has a downed diving move then I will usually leave the (SML)+(MED) slot for a move to set that up. My Skye Hendrix edit uses the Asai DDT as a sig for one of her match enders, but in the (SML)+(MED) slot she has the Sweeping Lariat to set up her Pheonix Splash Finisher.
