With FPWW now consuming much of our lives I figured I'd ask the burning question that gets asked once in a blue moon.

Never.
Spike Chunsoft will have soured on making any wrestling product after the sales of World. They aren't that good.

Going in I knew a niche wrestling game wouldn't move huge numbers or anything but that's disappointing to hear. Especially with how good World is.
Guess I won't be throwing out my copies of the KoC games and my modded PS2 anytime soon.

It's never going to happen. Sad too because it's by far my favorite wrestling game.
I am trying to listen through all of the audio files right now to isolate the crowd noises for hopeful future modding, and it's INSANE how much sound work they put into that game, there are literally almost 3000 sound files, and a ton of them are commentary and ring entrances for everyone.
The engine too, damn that system was good. I wish the faces in the game were more flexible, I'd probably still be playing it.

Imagine hearing about how badly World has sold to this point and then asking if there's any chance that a game that would cost them a magnitude more to produce has any chance of happening.
Come on now.

Director: but it's 3d
Spike: 3d huh?
Spike to the budget department: give the team millions. It's 3d. We're gonna be stupid fucking rich. Tell the receptionist I'll be out for the day, I'm gonna go buy an island.

The gameplay keeps me coming back to them time and again because it's so solid. I also keep meaning to dig into KING'S SOUL more as well since that's a great game in its' own right.
I've come to terms with the fact we'll never see another amazing wrestling game like KoC II again.
Incredibly thankful that FPWW exists though!

In all honesty, despite how much I love KOC II, if you put a gun to my head and asked me to choose between KOC II and FPWW with mods, it would be World every time. Theres just so much more you can do with it, and we're only a year in. Imagine what this game is going to look like 5 years from now, with all the potential custom parts, moves, and other features.

not to mention 2004 was still a hot time in Japanese Puro, now it's Just NJPW and a bunch of glorified indies, Dragon Gate DDT NOAH Certainly fell off once 09 hit with losing TV and Misawa in 3 months span, AJPW even though it was a far cry from what it was in 1999/2000 has tried (and has at times eclipsed NOAH recently). Then you have Zero One, a bunch of produce shows with a mixed bag of talent, then you have your barrage of indies & Joshi promotions.
The business has changed considerably. when both KOC came around it was around a time when there was a feeling that Antonio Inoki had his hand in every pot of Puro not just NJPW. AJPW had NJPW Help; first with Chono Tenzan Kojima, then Muto & BATT & finally Muto Kojima & Ka Shin jumped, NOAH had NJPW Involvement first with Hashimoto coming over after he was "Fired" by Choshu then Nagata accompanying Akiyama to the ring before his title shot at Misawa in 2001. Plus his involvement with PRIDE (he even got in the ring before Sakuraba Vs Gracie in 2000).

If so, then redone graphics, sound, textures, entrances etc. Then reanimation of the stiff walkings. Lot of costs so no.
Some other bigger developer or publisher would have a make a new 3D NJPW game from scratch.

It's easy. All you need to do is become a millionaire, then knock on Spikes door to buy all the KoC2 materials. Then become a millionair again, and hire a team of code monkeys, 3D designers etc to port the game to current gen while removing all the copyrighted material and still keeping the game presentable. Or, become a millionair again and license every wrestler in the japanese wrestling scene.
So there you have it, new King of Colosseum for just 2 mill. $ (3mill if ur feeling generous)

Best commentary ever!
A few years ago I booted up KoC2 to show a friend who'd only just gotten into Japanese Wrestling. The very first match was Kobashi vs Takayama... the match was so good we were both marking out as if we were watching a real-life match, it was bloody beautiful.
