I was just remembering that masuda, the original creator of fire pro, died a few years ago.
What was the current director matsumoto's role with previous fire pro games? How long has he been with the series?

Interesting how the director has the least amount of info in his bio compared to the others.

Well, he was part of a joint US-JPN military intelligence outfit so I'm guessing that there's not much that can be disclosed about his career before games. that's probably not true [\spoiler]

Interesting that Matsumoto worked on fire pro g but it doesnt mention any involvement with d z or returns. In the interview Matsumoto says he joined Spike eight or nine years ago, so he wasn't even with the company when D, Z, or R were being made. He seems to have left Spike around 2000 and came back around 2008.

Yeah, he worked on FPG working on the Fighting Road screenplay/scenario; did design work for the Wonderswan game; but never got the opportunity to work on later fire pro titles. He was a huge fan of the games, tho, and spent years trying to pitch a sequel to the higher ups. It wasn't mentioned in that English interview but apparently they were slightly closer to making a new firepro back in 2014. NJPW wanted to release a NJPW branded Firepro game back then but nothing came of it... I guess the time wasn't quite right then. New Japan was still recovering back then.
