Absolutely fantastic. You can really see the growth from Saji in this promo. He has a confidence and maturity that wouldn't have been possible a few years ago. If I can allow myself this bit of possible arrogance, I'd like to think that I've helped Saji's growth, just as you helped Lina's growth years ago. |

I was batting it around in my head and taking notes for a few weeks actually. Last night the location finally came to me to bring everything together. I had wanted Saji to give his speech to Basic Training for a while now and I realized how I could tie it to the other themes of his promo. I think the unifying concepts were his increased confidence, responsibility, and maturity. Not recognizing the accidental double entendre at first was huge for him.
There is absolutely no doubt that Saji's time in SWA and your treatment of him played a HUGE role in his growth and evolution over the years. His role in BHB, friendship with Connor, recent successes in the World Open, and portrayal of his character and behavior was crucial to the point he is at now 😎
Also! River Reade shows the world her winning hand! 🃏
This was an excellent promo! I know it's her first promo in OG-J but I'm not sure if you've written for her at length before. It honestly feels like you have been promo'ing for her for years. This felt so authentic and gave us a great look at her character, motivations, insight, and charm!
Also, I liked this line:
That was definitely a retort to Haley's commentary about her during the match. Interesting dynamic there. It's possible that Haley is a little too set in certain ways to fully get River's mindset. I've been hoping to show some disagreement between trainers and trainees for both programs so this gets the ball rolling nicely in that regard.
This was such a great promo for so many reasons and her re-contextualizing some of Haley's observations about her is one of the biggest ones. That was such a great section giving us insight about River's character.
I need to do more of this in showcasing the EMERGE (and Basic Training) talent. With the first round done and the next round (and ASFS show) not planned until July, I have plenty of time to promo for the winners and losers of Round 1. I was planning on doing a "promo round-up" but they deserve full attention like you gave River. Hopefully I can do them half as much justice as this promo did for her 👏

I loved those two video matches. I got Saji vs. Darius pretty quickly. I actually converted Darius to FPW just for this match. I even changed my initial booking just to get this result.
I got like 20 sims of RYOMA vs. Brandr and this one just felt the most special with their huge finisher exchange. The okite yaburi was fun too and amusing since I never had Brandr show that move before. How the hell did RYOMA know about it!? 😄
I thought this show felt more legitimate than the shenanigan fest that was IV.
It still was long though but we're halfway through the league so this felt important.

Saji vs Darius was immense too. It's almost as if Saji is developing distinct styles for UBL and SWA. It'll be interesting to see what fallout we end up having from the post-match angle. |

Glad you enjoyed the show! 😄 Goddamn, RYOMA vs. Brandr Hoff was a war. They really tore it up with an incredible main event. There was that like 3-4 minute period where they unleashed hell on each other!! No other sim I had came close to the intensity of that segment. Since this match also ended decisively, I chose this one. I also like how Brandr won with the move that RYOMA okite'd him with earlier. Brandr has been kind of floating outside the main current in UBL and this was my chance to get him back on track. He still has some work to do to show he's going to be consistent this time but he made a huge statement here in and after the match. He'll be someone to watch moving forward. My two biggest goals for this league were to crown a worthy Champion (based on what they accomplished before the league and also during it) and elevate some people to the next level. I'm still working on the first goal but I think the second one is coming along well so far despite the crazy delays 😎 Saji vs Darius was immense too. It's almost as if Saji is developing distinct styles for UBL and SWA. It'll be interesting to see what fallout we end up having from the post-match angle. Haha, I think one reason their styles are different is cause you still have his older edit! 😁 (I swear I'll get his moves uploaded to his Workshop page when you're ready for that version!) But I think the way he is presented is a little different too. That has to do with him being BHB-oriented in SWA and Matsuki-oriented in UBL. And since I spend way too much considerable time on factional warfare in UBL, that leads to his character feeling a bit different at times too. Somehow he got mixed up in two altercations in the same show against two different opponents! I thought his match with Darius gave me exactly what I was looking for. It was hard bringing Darius back after years only to lose, so I wanted to make sure he put up a good fight. (My original plan for them was actually a TLD). And I also needed him to keep that "mentor intimidation" vibe while also having his character get pretty close to turning heel. I won't say he's full heel now but he certainly is no longer the stoic-face Field Leader of years past. He has an agenda and he clearly has no issue attacking people to achieve it. With Gauntlet gone, we kinda need to fill that heel hole. Saji: "Nah dude, just nah. 🤦♂️" |

Maybe the whole year could be like this 😄." 3 weeks later: 💥 Okay, so a little fan-sh*tting has occurred the past month and I've clearly been MIA. If I'm lucky, things will get back to normal in June. I had already known May would be busy, I just didn't think it would be so busy and reach back to claim late April. So my modified estimate is Spring Fling in mid-late June. I'll probably continue to be around here less often but I'll drop by when I can. Hope everyone else is well 😄 |

But, to paraphrase the great Shigeru Miyamoto, a delayed show is eventually good, while a rushed show is bad forever. I'm going to be just as hype for Spring Fling in June as I would've been in May. Hopefully Spring Fling doesn't become a Summer Bummer show by being released too late 😁 It's a challenge for me cause I really wanted to do this show up big with commentary. But now that things have been pushed back, I may want to go lighter on that just so I can get it done by late June. I also need to do a write-up match for one of them and a few angles. The good news is that the video matches I got last month are awesome 🏆 I also have a UBL show that will quickly follow it since all the matches are done for that too. I'll echo UIG - really hyped for Spring Fling but life is life and hype will still be there in June. Hope things slow down and the windmills stop being midden-struck... Yikes, probably the longest time I've been away from here. Hope everyone is doing ok and had enjoyable seasons of apocalyptic red skies sunshine 👍 I saw this image a few months ago. I feel like it adequately represents OG-FPD's momentum this year. Look, I'm not going to sugar coat this. A lot of the issues that kept me away from this place are still there and still likely to cause me to blip in and out. I had big plans for the December 13th show - set to be the OG-FPD 20th Anniversary, no less. I still plan on doing *something* for that show but it will likely be smaller and posted later. The only real question for me is whether I want to: 1) Keep the 12/13 mostly as is. To get there, I'd have to cut out 2-3 shows I had planned this year and then kind of rush through the ones I keep by making them much shorter. 2) Keep the shows in the order I had them, change the 12/13 show to accommodate where we'd be, and just kind of push everything back 6 months to match where we actually are. 3) Do something really f'n crazy that I had been thinking of last week. Like really crazy. I mean, if you guys just want to just kind of operate in a non-canon universe for a few months, I have a funny idea. Maybe a little levity can serve to help everyone now. It looks like things are kind of quiet around here in general so I don't know how much input I get on this. That's fine. I'll probably just disappear for another week then come back with like 3 shows written anyway. We all know my biggest motivator is when I say I lost motivation/time. In the meantime, it would be really nice if FPW stopped crashing!! 🤦♂️ Seriously though, it really is great to be back around here 🙏 |
