I realized this a few months ago and then it just randomly popped into my head last night.
Smackdown 1 was released in the U.S. twenty years ago this March. I don't remember exactly when I bought it but it was pretty soon after it came out. I remember I was able to somehow rent the game, before it was officially released, and loved it. So I know I got the game at least within a month of it coming out and I remember it being around this time of year. Bolt was initially made in this game and as the first CAW (🦅) I made. He would then move on to No Mercy and eventually FPD. It was at that point (specifically, in 2003) that the character of Bolt became deeper and turned into the "Japanese persona" of Orochi Geese. So the precursor to Geese was basically created 20 years ago. That's crazy I've had at least some form of him in my head for about half of my life. And everything else flowed from that: from OG-FPD to UBL.
In other news, I've been very slowly working on the Continuum-1 show, the first event of the Universal Champions league. It's been a little hard to concentrate on it and also figure out how large I want these shows to be. I'll probably start with shorter shows and see how the format feels to me over time.

John Randolph provides a look at pre-existing rivalries between participants of the Universal Champions league. There will also be a promo-round up over the next week or so between participants of each Block who haven't already said anything about the league. After that is done, I'll hopefully be finished with Continuum-1 event 😅

I'm looking forward to this. While I've enjoyed doing the world open over in SWA, being the booker means I miss out on some fun surprises. With this tournament, I can just enjoy as a fan, which is going to be really satisfying, especially in the absence of my real world promotion of choice thanks to the goddamn coronavirus.

With this tournament, I can just enjoy as a fan, which is going to be really satisfying, especially in the absence of my real world promotion of choice thanks to the goddamn coronavirus. Thanks! I know exactly how you feel. The way I run leagues and tournaments, I have everything planned in advance. And since I'm not video capping, I don't even get the surprises I used to have where a pre-determined match ends with the winner I planned but in a surprising way. So I basically have zero surprises going into this but I do have flexibility as to how I go about it. I already planned out all the W/L results but am working backward by trying to give each match a unique story that I construct with text plus pics. So the creative fun in me is how to get to each outcome but that's on me as a booker rather than as a Fire Pro viewer.
I have about 1/4 of the first show done. I'm going to give minimalist write-ups for the overall show and just try to give creative summaries so that each match feels unique, works toward the pre-determined results (match and league), and continues to build the character and story arcs for each wrestler.
I basically gave myself just a little flexibility as to one choice that occurs at the end of the league. But, other than that, I'm writing myself out of the W/L results I rather painstakingly booked two months ago then rebooked a month ago when I realized that I should institute more variable point totals for DQ wins so that the point totals and results aren't repetitive from Block to Block. It wasn't super fun rebooking all that 😂
I feel the exact same way about your league right now as I get to watch as a fan to see what happens 😄

Alicia Gordon discusses her frustration with some recent events and warns her opponents. Note: I was actually going to write a shorter promo for her in the upcoming Block A "round-up" promo, but then one thing led to another because she got pissed off and invented a new word 😁

I was searching for a "heavy bag" emoji and couldn't find one 😥😁 I love doing "training promos" like this. I try not to do them too often but work them in when I can have a character get progressively more angry before breaking the damn thing!! The only thing I love more is taking shoot-promo style shots at my own booking style

Geese Walker gives some "excellent" advice to his competitors in the Continuum Stream. Thoughts on the RP for those interested, especially Senator 😀
I'd like to thank Senator once again for creating perhaps my favorite moniker for Geese a few months ago 😎
It really helped me craft his initial approach to this league and this current stage of his career. If "Threshold" was part 1 of his return, "Emblem of Excellence" is part 2 😎

Kurt Sanders runs into an unexpected "fan" in a bar. Notes on the promo: I tend to run through a lot of scenarios and dialogue in my head between characters that aren't scripted to meet. I don't usually write it out but this one really got me thinking because I realized how potentially useful it would be to Kurt down the line. I also loved the potential for these two to lay in shots at each other and the rest of the roster. Writing it was even more fun than "hearing" it 😁
General notes: It is really NOT a good sign that a significant amount of my roster members are already taking shots at UBL for being late with this league before it even officially started 🤣 I only have one match to go for the first show but the need to get those promo round-ups out has kind of delayed things. I'm hoping to finish the round-ups for Blocks C and D within the next week though and have the show up next weekend.

Very interested to see where this might go. Kurt has quite the future ahead of him, and this may have planted the seeds for his eventual ascendance.

Glad you enjoyed it! If he decides to move ahead with this advice, and finds the right back-up, this could mean big things for him. But it could also lead to certain destruction by emboldening him to face tougher opponents 😮 If he's really thinking of going after the big dogs fowl, he's gotta choose his pack wisely 🍶

In what has been described backstage as a stunning acquisition, UBL has been blessed by the arrival of Todd Colton! And Todd wastes no time letting people know what to expect with a great opening salvo and a few shots at management for holding him down from the start. We got a live one on our hands, people! 😁
