I was looking to get a cheap laptop specifically just for Fire Pro as my other computer is a crappy old desktop all-in-one (i3 processor, 4gb ram) that really struggled to play the game, and I settled on a refurbished HP Elitebook for $175, with an i7-3520M processor and 8GB RAM. Every problem I previously had has been resolved; no more minute-long laggy entrances, no more stutters during matches, no more creeping menus and irritating hang-ups in edit mode. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase, it plays the game flawlessly and I run just about every mod available, all the time. The main downside is that it is a bit bigger, boxier, and clunkier than the sleek laptops on the market these days, but I really like the aluminum chassis, it feels extremely sturdy.

If you get a link to it, if it goes on sale again, feel free to share it. I got an HP refurb laptop that turned out to have the same issues your desktop had and didn't even realize it. BTW, if I get more ram for that laptop, would it run things better? It has an extra slot for more ram, but my friend told me that even if I added ram, it wouldn't improve performance, so I didn't end up pulling the trigger on it. Is having the i3 Processor the biggest hurdle slowing it down?

Yeah the RAM past 8 doesnt matter. The processor and/or graphics card is probably the issue (i5 processor runs pretty smooth for me).

I'll keep an eye out for a link to a similar sale. I was scouring Amazon for HP Elitebooks and then all of a sudden I found exactly what I was looking for at a used computer shop around the corner from my house, so unless you can make it to Boise, Idaho, I'm not sure I can find you the exact same deal again. I can't say I'm the most computer savvy man in the world, but from what I gather Fire Pro uses 4GB maximally, so having more RAM might not help it but certainly wouldn't hurt either. I think my majorly improved performance is mainly down to the better processor, but I think the additional RAM above 4GB helps quite a bit with running apps simultaneously with FPW, like screen capture software and what not. I definitely couldn't do that before. Neither of my computers has a dedicated graphics card, so I can't imagine that does a whole lot for a game like Fire Pro with such simplistic graphics. I think that i3 processor is what's holding you back.

I was a dummy for getting this laptop without doing more research.

Most laptops eventually have an issue with heating, if not right from the get go, so your processor will always have to do more hard work in a laptop. Therefore the earlier mentioned focus should be on processor i5 and above (if you decide on intel, or AMD-10 as the equivalent), and 8gb of ram. After that graphics cards etc won’t be hugely important for fire pro
Do plenty of research through reviews and use case before you buy anything - specifically look out for comments on overheating, ventilation and battery life

It isn’t exactly cheap, but if anyone picks up the new Surface Go, I’d be really interested to know how the game runs on it...

Honestly? My old Core 2 Duo used to run the game just_fine, with mods and everything. Course i had a 1gb gfx card and 8gb of ram, but still the game ran without any hiccups.
What i couldn't do was stream, or record matches at the same time. For obvious reasons
