RIP.
I think Kirby, Ditko, and Lee are the three giants who saved and reinvented the medium and there'd have been no Marvel Comics cartoons in the 90s to get into without them creating the characters involved.

A double whammy for Tuesday:
Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants (57), and Young Busco, the originator of the "What are those?" meme (31).

Hillenburg also created Rocko's Modern Life which is one of my favorites as well.
Sad to see him go only a year or two after being diagnosed with ALS. Terrible way for anyone to go in life. RIP.

What a complicated legacy
One of the most influential workers ever who was also admittedly a very a nasty piece of work
It's hard to think about him without thinking about either facet

Holy shit, I never thought he would go, I thought he was too miserable to die. As physically messed up as he was, this is a tough one for me. Dynamite Kid was my FIRST favourite wrestler (and probably sits at the top of my all time favourites list) and ties into some of my earliest memories of watching wrestling on TV with my grandfather (old replays of Stampede Wrestling, he'd run down the history of all of the dudes with me, fun stuff. He HATED all of my favourites like Dynamite and Bad News Allen because they were "DIRTY"! :D ). I loved how stiff he worked, and he payed the price carving out a spot for the smaller guys in a big man's world. He and Tigermask made sure that we all got to watch guys like Benoit, Eddy, Melenko, and Liger work. Would the super juniors tournament have had the interest it does without his influence? Japan took to the cruiserweight pretty quickly, with North America taking a few more years to follow suit, but now they're a mainstay of the industry. It would be tough to deny Dynamite's influence on the industry, even if he was a miserable prick. I highly recommend his book for everyone here, he's not a nice dude, but his book is a pretty cool look into the industry through his eyes. Sad but not unexpected news. :(
