Just terrible, this doesn't even seem real. Kobe was the man in the post-Jordan era, and while I wasn't a fan of his or the Lakers, he was truly one of the greats of his time.

I remember seeing Kobe play for the first couple of times and thinking wow, this guy is like a baby Magic. What a shocker, and what a waste.

The others killed are apparently the pilot, Bryant's 13 year-old daughter Gianna, another teenager on Gianna's basketball team, and that player's parent. As sad as Kobe's loss is as a whole, it's even more tragic that two children went down along with him, not to mention the other two adults. That whole thing really is rotten. As humans, we learn fairly early that death comes to all living things and that our time will eventually come as well. All we can do is our best to live fulfilling lives that will (hopefully) make a positive on the world. I think by and large, Kobe was able to achieve that in his short life. Unfortunately, those two girls won't get that chance, hence the greater tragedy of it. That "check" on our mortality, that this man who TRANSCENDED his field to become a global icon can die as abruptly as that is sobering.
Sorry for the rambling. this one's got me feeling some kind of way

A few hours ago it seemed like these were just rumors, and I was holding onto that hope, but now to hear that it was confirmed AND that one of Kobe's daughters died as well as another child and the other passengers is really horrible. Kobe and his wife just had a new baby this past June too, which is another angle of this tragedy. I'm numb as well. It just doesn't seem real that this happened, especially after the past few days where Kobe was fresh on people's minds with Lebron setting a new record. I saw Kobe's tweet like last night, he was alive and well and on the forefront of people's minds. Then I wake up and read the news and am shocked. Kobe seemed so dedicated to his family in recent years since retirement. And he was one of the rare examples of an elite NBA player who managed to find a good balance between retirement and presence in the NBA. He was never bitter, even seemed to patch things up with Shaq, and was enjoying the life that he had built. I was a fan of his, and respected the hell out of his mental approach to the game. I thought he was one of the rare few that had a competitive mentality that exceeded the norm. But most of all, he was already into a new chapter of his life that seemed happy and devoted to those important to him. Having this happen, and taking others with him, especially his daughter and her friend, is a tragedy. This was very incredibly well said and poignant. I think you put something difficult to distill into words that was swirling around my thoughts after hearing about this.

The Spurs, Raptors, Celtics, and Pelicans each took 24 second violations to start their games tonight. Respect.
Just a sad day overall. 9 lives including children just gone from this world.

Wow. I woke up this morning and could barely believe what I was hearing. I remember the 3-peat years and how excited and united the city was. Every car had a flag. Every jersey was #24. L.A will move on but he won't be forgotten. Sadder still that two kids and another parent had to leave with him. I hope they are honored as well

The original Spartacus Kirk Douglas at 103 years old. 103... just imagine how much that dude’s world changed from the time he was a kid till now. I feel a bit like a turd, but I didn’t even realize he wasn’t already gone. Check out his IMDb thingy, dude has been in a film or two in his day.

I honestly can't imagine what it would be like to live to be 100 or older. That's incredible.

Larry Tesler, inventor of the cut, copy, and paste commands, dies at 74 Wow, what odd timing. One of my co workers just yesterday was training another of our co workers, a spry seventy-two year old veteran, on software she had not yet learned, and taught her for the first time how to use cut/copy and paste! She thinks it’s this incredibly complex but great new thing! Crazy, hard to believe something that you use dozens of times a day without even thinking about it was ever invented by anyone and wasn’t just a feature since the lights came on (I see copy and paste cave paintings for animal herds!).
