So, I realized that the Sumo option in the "More Match Types" mod doesn't include (m)any options on the workshop. In order to rectify the problem for the three people who want to use the option (myself included), I've published a collection of Sumo edits. Appearances are taken from an existing collection, with everything else heavily modified so edits work like actual sumo instead of generic wrestlers. The Sumo Fight collection can be found below: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1453719572

Holy cow, this is incredible. I recently saw someone post around 50 rikishi from the top division on the workshop. Like my boys Ichinojo, Shohozan, and Abi. Sadly no Terunofuji though. I will have to mess around with this soon!

I really appreciate the work you did with ...'s sumo. I've always wanted a decent sumo division in a FP game. His sumo were just appearance swaps over a good sumo moveset. It worked good with you sumo match options, but didn't offer much variety. Hated seeing low level sumo beat Yokozunas. With the stat changes, it makes it much more accurate. I only wish we could get more variety to rikishis' fighting styles and Kimarites. So, Hakuho being more well rounded but with higher strike stat to represent hid push outs or someone else having high stats in throw for slam wins.

So, Hakuho being more well rounded but with higher strike stat to represent hid push outs or someone else having high stats in throw for slam wins. Since striking is basically the cornerstone of the set & mode, I wanted to balance the divisions around it. So, I made striking defense the measuring factor for a sumo's rank since that should be a better indication of their skill and set striking offense for weight to show that it actually matters in match ups. The first throw ends the match regardless of your ability, so I just set the defense to one in order to avoid skill point bloat. Based on his weight, rank and past performance, I think Hakuho is well rounded. He gets an award buff for spirit/recovery on top of the Yokozuna rank buffs, and he's not too heavy to be penalized in speed; he's actually a monster from a pure skill-point perspective. If you really wanted to show variety in technique, you could modify the logic so certain moves are never used as match finishers. Like, drop all of Hakuho's throw moves to 0% so he'll always end with a striking finish. I think the most important part of the set is making updates over time easy. So you can model the edits if you wish, run tournaments and upgrade their rank based on promotions/demotions/any awards that you give out. This is how I plan on using them.

Yeah, I appreciate the original appearance work from ... but after trying a match and seeing a Front Headlock and Irish Whip within the first minute, I had to remove them. I'll post up the remainder of the edits this weekend.

I noticed his Ichinojo needs a better head.

Thanks for explaining this stuff so in depth. Obviously Sumo, like boxing, will never be "perfect" in FP, but I think the work you've done is amazing. It does make sense when you explain it that having higher/lower points for throw wouldn't necessarily be the best idea since first throw is a finish. Do you plan on doing any new sumo edits, or just finishing up the updates to ...'s guys? Maybe a sumo Rikidozan or Akebono or Emmanual Yarbrough?

Just updates, I don't usually create from scratch. I can't create decent appearances at all.

Finished with the uploads, I saw a few Jūryo in the collection so I made a category just for them! E Rank, minus 1 to punch offense/defense as base stats.

Any chance you could share how you have them broken up in roster/stables?

Any chance you could share how you have them broken up in roster/stables? One big Sumo stable under a "Mixed Martial Arts" promotion. Besides WWE and NJPW, I don't make individual stables for a specific promotion; it's usually grouped according to type.

Gotcha. I may make one big modern Sumo promotion, just because you've made so many now it'd get crowded with all the MMA guys Carlcx, djkm, Senator, deathbyhighkick, etc have made.

Just a reminder to the two or three of you that this still exists. I need to add the remaining sumo wrestler to the collection, then I may start posting up some tournament videos.
For edits with the same moveset & logic, the results can vary pretty drastically. I have even seen a few matches last long enough for wrestlers to be thrown out of the ring.

Updated collection to reference all ~50 edits. I'll start recording videos soon, maybe put together an intro, but sumo fight club has begun. Maybe, over a period of time, I can start adding some move set variations? So, you can have unique finishes for specific wrestlers? I would start with the Yokozuna and slowly move on from there. If anyone more familiar with modern sumo wants to provide suggestions, I'm all for it!
